Panetta: Drone campaign over Iran to continue

US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said overnight Wednesday that the stealth drone campaign along the Iran-Afghanistan border will "absolutely" continue despite the loss of a valuable and sophisticated drone to Iran.

Speaking to Fox News, Panetta refused to comment directly on what the RQ-170 Sentinel drone was doing over Iran, but he said the US military has no plans to suspend the drone operation out of western Afghanistan.

Of course it will continue. All the U.S lost was a plane, not a human life, plus they gained lots of terrain and building intel that Space Spy Satellites haven't obtained.

So, is the US helping Israel or vice-versa?

If this is the level of Iranian newspapers, well, that's pretty dumb. Doesn't bode well for the country.

Wow...We really got big balls..Would we like it if Russia or China just flew their drones around in our air space?? We would declare war on them...What if Iran got that captured drone to work and flew it around Washington DC?? LMFAO

Why does the USA not just ship Iran the spare-parts?
How come they are now confident that not other drones will be taken over.
If they can repair their "technical mistake "so easily, why did did it pass the test in the first place?

There is a good probability that the first one was a Trojan. There is a thread about this here on ATS.

There was once a Russian pilot that deserted and took his Mig to Japan.
There it was quickly disassembled by USA technicians, before the plane was reassembled and send back to the Russians.
The American technicians thought it was a joke/ trojan horse.
Why? Because all electrinics was based on tube- technology.
BTW, it worked great and had far less problems with EMP tests years later, after the fall of the Russian Empire.

That's largely irrelevant. From what we know, the pilot was a genuine defector.

On second thought, can the landing of the drone in Iran be an inside job, i.e. a US defector operated the drone?

I don't think this has been discussed, but this would explain a lot of things that are a mystery right now.

So, you noticed the hidden message.
This person was maybe in the US military, or a civilian at the home base in Pakistan
