Hmmmm...can you try to get a screen shot of these quakes? There was a 3.2 on the map last week in the SW corner that later totally disapeared. This really has me wondering now.

Oh...and several more quakes in that area today:

Why would they do that if they weren't trying to cover something up?

Well, that's just it. We really don't have a clue. There are often small quakes that come and go, due to them being something other than quakes. Usually explosions, like from construction or avalanche control, etc. However, I don't think I have ever seen a 3.2 in Washington disapear. Also, this one was out at the south end of the peninsula....no snow there right now and I can't imagine a man-made situation that would trigger a 3.2 and not be noted somewhere else.

I tried to look at the local seismos, but they were 'unavailable' that evening. But why would they be covering these quakes up? There has been a lot of discussion about this issue (in other areas) over on the quakewatch thread. We go back and forth on it and I still don't really have an opinion on it. There would have to be some really strong evidence for me to believe that....and I would think that for them (USGS) to be involved in something like that, it would have to be major. I'm thinking there is another explanation for it.

Is this something we need to keep an eye on,westcoast??
Also wonder how the snowfall is out that way,I have heard it is quite mild across the country, maybe a little unusual.

Yes, I think so. Of course the last couple of days there hasn't been much going on in Montana, but there has been in Ohio and right on Rainier!

I'm curious now, in light of the Ohio situation, if there is any fracking going on near Missoula, MT?? hmmmm

Not that I am aware of. The closest oil field is over by Cutbank a few hundred miles away.

Okay, well a simple search answered my question: YES they recently started fracking in that general area:

Fracking article about blackfeet reservation

That is a recent article....there seem to be a lot of them.

So is THIS why we are seeing such an upswing in odd quakes around the same depth is strange places around the country? I know i am certainly not the first person to suggest this...I just believe this is one more possible dot to connect. They can't deny it much longer. How much damage is being done though?????

Isn't there one near Flathead?? That isn't too far from where these are located, I don't think. I could certainly be wrong though.

The Blackfeet oil wells are over near Cutbank. It;s about a 5 hr drive (for most people) from Missoula. There are some oil sands in the western part of the state, but I haven't heard of any that were ever economically viable. The ones that are being fracked are right across the Marias River from Cutbank.
