I've seen and read many threads on the OWS movement. A lot of posters are bashing them. It's my understanding they are protesting against Corporate greed. I'll explain this with a few points.

  1. OWS is against the lobbying done by Large corporations to gain favor from our political system. I don't believe they are against free market capitalism, Its not a free market if the corporations are skating by cause the political system allows it to, thats called free market socialism..
  2. They are against the fact the rich are getting richer and the poorer are getting poorer. Their are many reasons for this and I'm not sure the legality of it.
  3. After the economic meltdown, not one person went to jail for it.

I am not a representative of OWS nor have I occupied anything. This may or may not be what they represent.

Please feel free to add any other points that explain what they are doing.

Now all the people bashing them please give an alternative to what people should be doing. We can't go to the goverment for help, they are what caused the problem in the first place. I do understand why some people dislike the movement but you have to admit the playing field isn't a level one. So what would be a better course of action?

Here's the thing... The Tea Party wants the same thing.. Smaller government etc. yet they get smashed on because of their political affiliation.... yet when doing rallies and protests they leave the park clean, leave the drugs and drums at home..

I was watching Occupy Boston the other night... the guy who was casting it even admitted the park was trashed, the drums were a bit much and people were out of control..

it was a giant drunk hippy party... NO JOKE.

yeah there are alternatives... maybe gather signatures, help people out... do something productive instead of camping and playing the drums

All you have to do is read the multitude of posts concerning OWS and you will get your answer. For me it has to do with targeting the right segment, and Wall Street was not it. The protest needs to be focused on DC and our government. They allowed all of it to happen. Wall Street was nothing more than opportunists. Get some leadership with a clear message. No list with 20 things on it. get one or two main topics and go after them like a rabid dog. It's quite simple, yet seems to be very good at eluding the organizers of OWS.

1. End the Fed!
2. End the Government!

I've been on a 'list' for my whole life.....so I'm not worried about expressing my honest opinion here!

Most people who bash OWS are lazy, obese, and don't have much going for them other than their ability to complain non-stop about EVERYTHING. They don't want OWS to create solutions because a solution would destroy their ability to complain about the government. They don't want OWS to create change, because they are now fully dependent upon their way of life. They'd rather the U.S. go on raping the world because it provides them the comforts that they have afforded THEMSELVES over a large period of time and their neurons are completely wired to addictions. They're so dependent upon the system that the slightest fluctuations within it gives them gas and heartburn.

Now personally, I think that OWS has lost sight of the goal and forgot where the targets really lie. They allowed themselves to take money from political organizations, they've been making high budget commercials, and allow the very idiots that they protest to SPEAK for them. The day that they began praising Ratigan from MSNBC, I knew that the whole thing was going to go downhill. Many of these OWS supporters are STILL supporting Obama, and are trying to create their own political group to lobby in the same fashions that the present ones do. Its all about co-option and fitting them into the pre-conformed system. As long as OWS actually becomes a political group, then the elite have accomplished their task. They are getting played from so many sides that I don't think that they're aware of what is what...

So, I DO PROPOSE and alternate solution. Just recently the Senate passed an act that allows the military to arrest US citizens. It does not specify which ones. In other words, the elite just gave FULL and LEGAL permission for their ARRESTS. Therefore, a group with volition would get together with the part of the military that does not agree with Obama, and have him, as well as the Senate and House arrested IMMEDIATELY, just like Iceland did...

If their protests were geared more towards government corruption, I'd be on board. But instead we hear about the "greedy corporations". I for one am thankful for those corporations. Last weekend, I got to hear stories from my grandparents on how they thought the were lucky to get their own potatoe for Christmas. A POTATOE grown in their own backyard that they didn't have to share with their brothers and sisters.

But thankfully, because of corporations, I might get something as sweet as an ipad, or awesome speakers for my desktop. My point is that people forget how cushy our lives have become because of the services that corporations provide. Just the little things like that fact that it's December, but I can go to a store and buy any kind of fruit I want, at 3 in the morning no less.

So what if some CEO somewhere is making a profit? They are making my life better.

This is such a moot statement and quite frankly I am tired of hearing it. So what if some one has a nice phone? I have the google phone, and while I support SOME of Google's activities, I would never want to allow Google to be able to lobby or pay for an election. Lets get back to some logic, please?

They were lobbying money towards internet censorship...

I dunno. I agree with the first guy below the OP. Hippy parties are getting old. I was thinking about this again after seeing on the news they plan to block the ports today This is counter productive.

I think a grass roots guerrilla type approach is necessary. The world already knows about this but the change must come from inside the government. How about starting with every single member of the Occ movement send a letter to the same department every day? Bags and bags and bags of it. Every day for 10 years. Then send the same letters to the news stations you want to lead the awareness, knowing full well the Government dept is getting them too.

Then get the OCC movement to finally appoint a spokes person. Intelligent, level headed, and charismatic. And put him/her in the position to run for office, senate, or anywhere that may leverage their role.

Finally, offer a solution to the mail problem and civil unrest.

There you go. Problem, reaction, solution. Sound familiar?

Please do not misconstrue me. I didn't say that they do not lobby. I said that I do not support it, or how I put it "allow it".

The point is, why does it matter if someone has nice things? I have a phone from a company that I do not want to have the same rights as people. Why do I feel this way? Because a corporation is a conglomerate not a citizen. The Occupy is not against the corporations, as much as it is against the corporations have the same rights as citizens, and then those rights are amplified by money.

ETA: And for the record, Google actually denied the request from the DoD to censor the internet.

the whole 1% Vs the 99% thing is stupid, becuase with money there is always going to be a 1% so that analogy is bull#, secondly money is a courrupt system it always will be, people have said that since the days of gold Buddah said it while he was around 1000 years ago. In my eye money was created to control the population and to create an invisible grip on society and the more we protest and shout about it in the streets (OWS) the more the grip tightens and makes it visible as we have seen (police brutality toward riotors, goverment doing nothing about it).

We can protest all we want but the only thing that will become evident is that we are all born into a system of corruption, and aslong as there will be money there will be someone who craves it all, craves the dictatorship that comes with money, craves the power that comes with money, and would crave the fe/male attention that comes with money.

And that is what i think why the OWS movement will not work, but what it has done is ignighted a light for the world to see on how truley ugly the bankers are also how the banking system is designed around extortionate methods that are out to con us all (man woman and child) and for that i applaude evreyone one of them for the effort has not been in vain, and will defnatly contribute to the future of a more equal money bassed economies.

That demand of yours is silly.
Pointing out what is wrong with something is fine. And there is a lot wrong with OWS. Just because someone doesn't have an alternative to OWS is NOT a reason for them to shut up about what is obviously wrong with it.

Yeah ... right .... (sarcasm) ....
That's just plain silly.

So ... according to your 'wisdom' ... what does this bashing of OWS make you?
Answer - lazy, obese and not having anything going for you.

You took me the wrong way. I don't want them to shut up about it. I really would like to know an alternative. As far as what they are doing, it isn't anything I would do. I don't know what I would do. I can vote or call my representative but thats a dead end. I have no confidence in that area. I could take my money out of the bank. I doubt my10,000 would affect them. I could stop using all the product that they make but I wouldn't be able to function without them.(no car, phone, credit lines for business, material for jobs I do). I think they basically have us by the balls. So I would like an alternative cause I can't think of anything.
