File-hosting service Megaupload has told TorrentFreak that it will sue Universal for wrongfully taking down its content from YouTube. Universal took action Friday to remove a Megaupload-produced pop video which featured leading artists singing the cyberlocker service’s praises. The move has also prompted the company to enter the SOPA debate, with a call for like-minded people to join forces and fight for an Internet without censorship.

This is pretty funny!

Evidently Mega Upload collaborated with a few artists to make a song in a campaign to fight those riaa and mpaa assholes. Of course, Universal said they owned the rights to the song, when they did not, and it was repeativly taken down.

This then gave a reason for a suit that they sabotaged mega Upload.

But whatever Universal’s motivations for the takedowns were, according to Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom the label will now have to justify their actions in court. TorrentFreak can confirm that Mega’s legal team have already been instructed to sue Universal over the illegitimate copyright takedown of the Mega Song, an act which Kim says was an attempt to sabotage their viral campaign.

I'm pretty curious to see how this one plays out.

Good

Forcing the predator to take a step back and enter into a defensive mode, is still a step in the right direction, even if nothing else actually comes from this.

And for more on TorrentFreak: they tried putting a few interesting addresses into the new website Youhavedownloaded.com to see who's been downloading what and it turns out that amongst many other interesting findings The French President's office has been caught downloading pirated movies .

This is a quote from: Matt Liebowitz, Staff Writer of SecurityNewsDaily Dec 15, 2011:

' Even as they campaign against Internet piracy, several major Hollywood studios have been found downloading pirated movies and music from file-sharing services. The accusations by the website TorrentFreak also exposed the office of French President Nicolas Sarkozy as an offender.

The finger-pointing comes after TorrentFreak input Sony's IP address, as well as the addresses of Fox Entertainment and NBC Universal, into the new website Youhavedownloaded.com, which stores a database of millions of files that have been downloaded to IP addresses from file-sharing sites like BitTorrent.

The results of TorrentFreak's search highlighted a double standard in the entertainment industry, crusaders against Internet piracy.'
