The whole OWS movement is completely clueless.

Says the person who doesn't offer any explanation as to why this hurts the 99%

OWS is trying to make a difference in the political climate around the world, and simply saying "I could never support them" leads me to ask, what are YOU doing to change anything?

Far too many people are critical of any political protest, while doing absolutely nothing to engage themselves in improving their own country. People willingly admit that the lobbyists and corporations control their government, and yet they sit on their ass and expect other people to protest for them and then complain when they protest in a way that they either don't understand or don't like.

Guess what, voting fails, elections are a con, whoever you vote in is owned by their corporate sponsors. While you sit on you behind complaining that those protesting are doing it wrong (while not explaining why you think so) at least they are actually on their feet and defending the futures of their country and their kids.

To all those critical of OWS, do you agree 100% with everything your favorite political puppet says? Do you agree with every single policy of anyone you vote for? If you say yes, you're a bold faced liar.

When was that last time any of you actually stood for anything?

Protesters are standing their ground including a person in a wheelchair.
The stream is getting shoppy because it's raining.

How do you not understand that preventing people from working who want to work and depend on that money to live is in fact hurting them???

Happy holidays workers...we are taking your means of living away....sincerely OWS!

Right, so they loose a couple of hours of work, get paid anyway, and you're complaining about what exactly?
Compare this small inconvenience on one day for a handful of people to the massive unemployment and extraction of wealth affecting millions across your country.

People need to get some perspective here. A few people being stopped from working for a few hours by a protest is nothing compared the rape and pillage of your entire country by the corporate scum controlling your government.

But, if this needs to be explained to an American, I think it's clear why the country is in the massive hole of debt it is now in and why so many people simply don't understand what these people are protesting against.

I used to say that a lot of Americans are too dumb to wake up to what's happening in their own country, but when OWS started I had hope that this had finally changed. Now I'm not so sure.
If Americans actually had a clue about how their own country is being run, and how it is being robbed while the people are systematically reduced to cannon fodder you'd all be out there joining the protests.

Most of you are too distracted by reality TV, the stage show of divisive politics and the propaganda of your corporate media.

Two LAPD choppers circling helping LBPD figure out how to surround the protesters, which they have now done. About 300 people surrounded now.

Police just pushed them back and left, I don't think there was one single arrest.

Generally, I'm supportive of OWS only because I'm fed up with this country, this world, this planet.

See, I disagree.

If my finger hurts, so I cut off my arm...well, I've done SOMETHING!

And it didn't make sense.

I am also fed up with this country, but cutting off our arm is not the answer.

TIP: More people would support OWS if they JUST MADE SOME SENSE!!!!!

I think your post actually gets to the heart of the matter better than any I've seen. OWS supporters just want to do something. That is actually a NOBLE sentiment. HOWEVER: The people who criticize OWS agree that something should be done, but that it MUST make sense. NOTHING about OWS has made sense to the people who have criticized the movement.

Any member of the 99% that are hurt financially are just "collateral" damage, right?

I mean, they should suffer for the cause, right?
Any lost wages, any financial burden felt by their spouses and children ought to be celebrated for the good of the "cause", right?

Beezer, yes exactly.... but OWS has like over a million dollars in donations... I guess that makes them the 1% now?

the numbers are too confusing... If they are the 99% why aren't there more of them?

Really, Occupy reminds me of the old soviet union. (yes, I'm that old)
Suffer pain for the good of the party.
Have less for the good of the party!
Give all that you have, earn. . . . for the good of the party.
The party wants what you have, for the collective for the whole.

So to those of you who are condemning and claiming it hurts the dock workers and truckers etc...please explain the cheers of thank-you from behind the fences coming from the workers and from the truckers. Those people you're using to attack the movement cannot protest, strike or speak out against their employers for themselves and are grateful someone was able to.

Isn't the word in the thread title "blockade" usually reserved for acts of war, and not solution oriented constructive acts. There is no artistry to the OWS, there was no artistry, and I don't see any comming. But keep #ing with commerce and I do see a repeat of history comming.

So, you'd rather see your entire economy sink, the bankers walk away with everything, and no one say ANYTHING bout it, just in case a guy loses a couple of hours of work?

This is the kind of mentality I simply don't understand. Doing nothing will not change the mess the country is in, and elected leaders are simply digging the hole even deeper. While your people are facing complete economic meltdown your military is expanding, wasting any savings your government is trying to make through taxation and lowering of living standards across the country.

How many people are now unemployed because those bankers would rather pay themselves billions in bonuses than keep staff working? How many government employees have been made redundant while you see deals made to open more military bases around the world? How many social programs are being cut back and regional budgets collapsing while your elected make deals for a job with *insert corporation here* when they are finally forced to leave their position by the people they failed? How many of those banks you bailed out have invested in expansion in Asia, firing thousands in the USA so they can move to make more profit?

Once again, a whole lot of Americans are not seeing the bigger picture here. Must be nice to have such a simple mind that a knee-jerk reaction can cover. I'd love to live like that, thinking minute to minute and not giving any consideration to other events and how they are connected. Ignorance really is bliss I suppose.

Ah, so your one of those conservatives who thinks that change = communism. While you neglect that bailing out the banks is selective communism. It's okay to have communism when it benefits the wealthiest in society? Yeah, that reminds me of the Soviet Union too, in fact, that's pretty much Russia and China today.

If you're so scared of America becoming a communist nation, where were your protests against the people paying for the welfare of the failing millionaires?

As the masses cheered the revolutionary heros of the new society. . . . yadda yadda yadda.

Look, Kali, not all Occupy is soviet/draconian but enough of their rhetoric sure as hell sounds like it.

They aren't doing themselves any favours.

Unions aren't as popular as they once were.
Revolutionaries belong on college campuses.
Real change takes work.
Hard work.
And it's not enough just to hope for change (
) you actually have to have a working viable solution that comes after the change has taken place.

Union Bosses are often corrupt. Union workers know this and this is why I support the equal treatment of unions AND corporations as far as limiting their political power. BUT, to union bust or take away collective bargaining or prevent unions from forming is a truly terrible thing. That is what a good amount of what today was about...I was unsure too until I saw and heard those workers cheering for the protesters. The bosses publically rejected todays actions but the workers wanted this and so did the truckers who are essentially killing themselves for 35$ a day.

There are solutions on the table, but much like the media ignores this fact...so do the detractors on ATS.

I find it funny I see girls at this thing who openly say "they are socialists"

but... I don't think they realize that every socialist regime oppressed women...

I just want to know whats up with the hypocrisy at these events!

LOL...exactly how do you think they still get paid?

How do the truckers that can't get in or out get paid? Lost time is lost mileage is lost money for an independent trucker. Even for a union trucker...if you don't work, you don't get paid.

People need to get some perspective here. A few people being stopped from working for a few hours by a protest is nothing compared the rape and pillage of your entire country by the corporate scum controlling your government.

OWS complains about there not being enough jobs out there and people are struggling to make a livable wage...and their briliant solution for this is to stop people from working.

Honestly...there are some true idiots organizing OWS.

"Hey guys...it sucks there are not jobs and people are hurting...to combat this, we are going to go shut down a place that employs hundreds of people so they can't work."
