Yeah red cross, let's focus on ridiculous things like ``are gamers war criminals when they kill people in a computer game`` instead of focusing on REAL war criminals running free like Bush, Obama, Clinton, Harper, Blair, Netanyahu, etc... Red Cross, showing once again who you work for...

Six hundred million gamers could be war criminals, Red Cross says

Delegates at the 31st International Conference of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Red Crescent raised the concerns over the potential “International Humanitarian Law” violations – which can constitute war crimes - during a workshop in Geneva.

It's FICTIONAL.

“While National Societies shared their experiences and opinions, there is clearly no simple answer. There is, however, an overall consensus and motivation to take action.”

Yes there is a simple answer : IT'S TOTAL BULL.

The Red Cross said if it finds the conventions have been violated, they may ask game developers to conform to international laws or encourage governments to create laws that regulate the gaming industry, Kotaku reported.

Thought crimes are next? If you dream something violent or even have violent thought, you go to jail! And don't worry, they'll develop the ``brain scanners`` that will scan everyone in the streets to see if bad thoughts are in your head. It'll all be for your safety and the safety of children, of course...

At least one law professor gets it :

But international law professor at the University of New South Wales Anthony Billingsley told news.com.au the Red Cross risked trivialising the conventions of warfare.

Which is exactly their aim.

I will admit this much.......

I NEVER see the Red Cross picking up ANY survivors in the games I play.

Thought police at their very best.

Thought crimes will never happen nor will they ban violent games. I bet half the kids in the army joined because of these games

Wow! This is very interesting. I don't play a lot of games, especially not any violent or war themed games, but I know they depict some ugly and certainly illegal behavior. Red Cross is going a little overboard here, but I see their point.

OP, have you read "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card? It's about a very bright young child, who is recruited to a "special" school where all he does is play war themed, violent videos games.

Turns out that the country is at war with invading aliens, and the war being fought in cyberspace is really happening. Ender, the child, is upset to learn about all the real killing he has done.

Maybe the Red Cross knows something we don't?

They do have a point...I see a big double standard...I mean playing games that advocate drug theft and car jacking and blowing up people should be met with some opposition. The games should not be sold at childrens toy stores. You should be able to buy violent brutal games at porno stores and theaters but not a childs toy shop.

I wonder what the mainstream reaction would be if a virtual kiddie molester game was made and sold. I bet it would be met with fierce opposition. But hey...pretending to be at war with people is much more safe and rational.

How about the red cross focus on actual war crimes as opposed to the virtual ones...

This is a freaking joke right? It's April 1st?

Who let these imbeciles have a stage to speak at anyway? Oh, the real life war criminals...
Oh the Irony.

So would writers, actors and directors be covered too??? What a pointless issue for the red cross to make.

I think Marylyn Manson said it best when being accused of warping kids brains. He stated something along the lines of Clinton dropping a record number of bombs in one day in the Middle East along with other issues such as state executions and so on.

The double standards are atrocious and the Red Cross are hardly ones to speak with the allegations of corruption and such.

Although they may not be ideal, they are hardly the biggest issues society faces.

Maybe we should mod in some Red Cross uniforms onto npcs in our games and take out our anger that way?

Why yes, that idea is Brilliant!

Red cross only functions because the rulers allow it to. They swnd in the red cross after they have destroyed everything to try and win back the mimds of the people. War splits the mimd of the people and the red cross comes in to attempt to restructure peoples minds.

That's the dumbest thing I've heard this month. I really have nothing else to add.

I hope this is all sensationalism.

Then I guess that makes me worse than Stalin, Hitler, Genghis Khan, and Rwanda all at once.

Wow.

I need to sit down for a second!

You evil bastard...

I once dropped a nuke on a populated city in a flight simulator game created in partnership with MS.

I think it was called F22 Lighting 2.

Great game.

But it allowed my wanton use of WMD...I must be worse than every dictator who ever did anything.... twice.

Progressive Liberals: Living in their own delusional reality but insisting on stuffing their BS down our throats.

(in retaliation for idiocy on Red Cross's part I will load GTA4 and begin systematically executing innocent civilians. And when I die, which I won't cuz I kicks arse, I'll resurrect and murder some more!
