Never really thought about it until you brought it up. America have a lot of wierd stuff in area 51 and I think that if (and it's a big if) WW3 did materialise, then I would suspect that America would unleash a technology tsunami upon it's enemies.

I think the American Army has some stock of tough material, just waiting to be wholefully tested or used in the field. And I think the Russians have, too (as far as I remember they are specialising in plasma and that stuff), I bet China has some of both (stolen and replicated

) and so does the rest who can afford...

And as far as I remember are things like microwave and sound cannons already in use in Afghanistan... and seem to plan to use tiny microwaves in civil areas (usmilitary.about.com...).
