Lol, I love how you people are complaining about $7.25 being a low wage... lol.
DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH DO WE GET IN SLOVAKIA? Do you know how bad is it in slovakia, compared to your countries?
Minimum is only something about $2,24/1,55 € AN HOUR!

Now stop complaining and be happy. I wasn born to (and live in) crappy country, infested with gipsies who get away with everything, while their behaviour is very rude (they rob, kill, etc. normal living people), while they are supported by the government. We have to work for them. We get same amount of money,or lower, and we work, while gipsies dont have to work, and get same or higher amount of money than us.
Not to mention how nasty our politicians are. They always promise, but never accomplish it. One example of many, one road leading from one side of our country to the other has been building for 20 years, and it is still not finished. Why? Because politicians don't give a poop. Not to mention how big advantages they have... they can and they DO increase their minimum wage (they have it rougly about $3000/2000 € a month now, if not higher), they can overcome the speed limit and not pay a penalty/forfeit to police, public transport is free for them, while everyone else has to pay for it, etc, etc, etc.
I thank mainly our country leaders, aka politicians that our country is in such a poor situation. But still, seeing other people, who are much better than us and still complaining saddens me.

So, how much we get? around $450/300€ a month, we have to live from it, while we are getting murdered and robbed by gipsies, and getting false promises by politicians.

There should be no minimum wage. The market should set the rates.

It' is pretty good if you start comparing on a global scale.

I liked the chart that showed the CEO to blue collar ratio in 2011. It is an eye opener for the 99%

Minimum wages by countryNote: To convert the gross annual wage to a different currency, go to this list, locate your desired currency's country of origin and then multiply the number next to the country's name by the annual gross wage in this article's table. This is necessary, because the annual wages are in International dollars, not market U.S. dollars. Note, however, that the purchasing power used here is for GDP and may differ from a private consumer purchasing power.

NOW WITH THESE FIGURES IN MIND: and this is very close to actuals even tho they take out more.

For a single person, basic needed living exspenses: Necessities only.

Average rent: $850. a month.
Electric: most rental units do not pay electric and you almost always has an electric stoves. ave. bill=$100 month
Phone: $65 a month.

Food: $200. a month.
TOTALS: $1,545. A MONTH. Lets see if the guy making $9 an hour can make it, YOU DECIDE.

$9hr. NOPE
$10hr. NOPE
$11hr. NOPE
$12hr. NOPE
$13hr. YES, BARELY, NOT RECOMMENDED
$14hr. YES, BARELY, NOT RECOMMENDED
$15hr. YES
$16hr. YES
I feel sorry for those that have children. This only makes things worse.
Most places around here hire you thru temp. services, because buisnesses do not want to pay for health insurance on a newbie. Most temp. services around here start you at $9 dollars an hour. More often what happens they don't hire you after your 90 day trial period and you end up quitting or they say that they don't need you anymore. This practice has been going on since the 80's. If you say something about this they get rid of you and say there is no more work to be done and then they go and hire a new temp and start the process all over again. THIS IS THE NEW FACIST ECONOMY WE HAVE HERE.
Most people get one or two roomates, because they cannot afford to live in the apartments. Rent usually goes up from $850 a month for a one bedroom to a two bedroom apartment.
THE BANKS did not take a cut for our recession. That is why the rent on apartments did not go down at all, it only went UP.
The way around here is, it is helpful to have a two or more person system with helping the bills. Laws here say that you can have only 1 person per bedroom under the age of 12. Remember, the more bedrooms the more exspensive it is to pay.

Yes Minimum Wage is the US is $7.25 or $7.35 per hour. I forget which one it is.

It is very very very difficult to live on minimum wage. Most people who live on minimum wage usually are forced to work two jobs, 6 and 7 days a week, and even then they still struggle to make ends meet. About 10 years ago the creator of the movie "Super Size Me", Morgan Spurlock, had his own TV show on the FX channel called 30 days. The idea behind the show was the same as "Super Size Me". In "Super Size Me" Morgan Spurlock ate only McDonalds food for 30 days straight, 3 times per day, and his health was watched very carefully. If no one has seen that movie, I suggest watching it. It really highlights the dangers of what we consider "food" here in the US.

Anyway... one of his shows on 30 Days was to live for 30 days on Minimum Wage. It is a very eye opening show and it will give you an idea of how people who work for minimum wage actually live. Keep in mind, this show was filmed PRIOR to the housing collapse, prior to the recession, prior to all the events we have happening now. So by today's standards, things are actually worse.

I read that the Federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. I knew it was low but I think that is crazy. How could you afford to live on that? Here in Australia it is $15.51 an hour.In Australia a 16 year old gets $7.34.

Guess what? Minimum wage IS for 16-year-olds. That's what you should make if you have no job experience, no advanced education and no life experience. If you are an adult living in the US and are making minimum wage, guess what? You probably should have been in school learning stuff rather than cutting class and getting high. Want to make more than 8 bucks an hour? Get your ass to college and learn something.

Guess what happens when the bleeding heart moron politicians raise the minimum wage because boohoo, hobo harry can't afford his rent? The cost of that labor gets passed through to the consumer in the form of higher prices and reduced quality, be it goods or services. That cascades up to higher costs for everyone, and higher salaries to compensate, and then abracadabra - adjusting for inflation - minimum wage is $7.25 again.

By the way, this not my opinion, it is FACT. What happened when minimum wage was $4.50 an hour? People bitched. Now that it is $7.25, what are people doing again? It never ends. Damn underachievers keep wanting more and more.

Add: With regard to the Morgan Spurlock post above, people making minimum wage should be living at home with their parents because they are in high school or sharing an apartment while they are in college striving to better themselves. Again, see first paragraph of this post.

I wish I could add more than just one star to your post. This is what people struggle to understand. Having a minimum wage also cripples "would be" business owners.

Hey, corporate greed IS rampant, not disagreeing with you there, but you are displacing your aggression and my post has nothing to do with corporate greed. It has to do with minimum wage. Something needs to be done about it, but raising minimum wage is not going to do a thing. Turning to socialism is going to make life worse in this country if that's your solution.

CORPORATE BANKSTERS, need to lower cost of housing with the recession we are having and they don't. Just as they do on GAS. IF, IF they do this the average working person will have more money to spend on things, THUS buisnesses can thrive.

If you look at what i posted then you can understand. The raising of taxes is not the answer either.
