Well maybe if you had done a little better in school and if you were a little "smarter" your struggling small business would actually be thriving. Is it really Obams fault that you have failed? Maybe it is your fault because you are not "smarter"

awake said he was on FOOD STAMPS. WHATEVER. You still have the buisness? OR do you still have it and are on FOOD STAMPS. You on food stamps, but yet awake cuts down people and blames. I'M CONFUSED.

You're funny. The Comedy Store has open mic on Wednesdays.

Let's review:

I graduated college with HONORS. This while taking classes full time and holding down TWO jobs. I could have done better how?

My business was doing great in 2006 and 2007, BEFORE Obama took office.

Maybe my IQ really has nothing to do with it? Ya think?

Its tough out there. Me and the wife were in the same boat. I needed her to get a job once our youngest was two because we simply didn't have any money left. She could only find min wage for 25 hours a week. The cost of running a second vehicle so she could travel to work (60 km a day round trip) plus child care costs pretty much ate up what she was pulling in leaving us back at square one.

Its crazy we are making 50k yearly and even though we are doing better than 90% of the people we know we still don't own a house (can't, impossible) and can't afford vehicles that were built this century. My newest car is a 2002 impala, it has over 230k on the odometer now and I don't know what I will do once it goes which will be soon. I can't finance and buying old beaters is a ton of work in repairs and costs tons of money. Thankfully my job allows me to bring a company vehicle home but the car is her lifeline. She is in school now and if it dies she can't go to school anymore because the only daycare available is out of the way, the transit service here can't be relied on, its still on a 1950s schedule.

holy crap dude!!! you are living my life every single thing on your list minus the wife. i have an 2 ex wives and 3 children. other than that woah!

FYI you can make a lot more money on unemployment than a 40 hr a week minimum wage job pays. i qualify for 2k a month on unemployment and can get it for up to 99 weeks with federal extensions....i have a job i am not on unemployment just to clarify..

See, that's an American thing and I don't know how that system works but having been on unemployment benefits in the UK since early 2009, I know that the amount of money I get in two weeks on benefits is half the amount I got paid for a 16 hour week at work and this was before the minimum wage increase to £6.08

We also have to jump through hoops over here to prove that we need the benefit.

The DWP stopped paying me for a fortnight once because I couldn't take jobs that were too far for me to travel to early in the morning on public transport and I have a friend who is registered disabled but still has to prove disability to retain the disability benefit even though they know she has a live in carer that has to go everywhere with her.

What you have to realize is that a lot of things are cheaper here, also, that's the federal minimum, most states have a higher minimum wage, but at home in oklahoma, i could live on 7.25 an hour pretty easily, as gas and rent are way cheaper than here in washington. The last time i had a minimum wage job, it was 6.25 and i was able to pay for food, gas, and rent and still have some leftover.

My friend,it pains me to insult you. I mean no offence and am sorry. But I think we all need to stick together to find solutions. They are dividing us and some are cheering them on. I think the financial crisis is where you could direct more blame than at Obama (Im no Obama fan). But I think we need to take from above, not reduce welfare and remove the middle class. That is their grand plan. And they think they can achieve it by making us squabble amongst ourselves.

Jobs go overseas why?

Regulation like minimum wage, regulation and green laws and etc....

You misunderstood me. I am for the workers and small buisnesses and the people barely scrapping by. IT is the housing, the housing. IF housing was cut in half we would be better off. Instead of $850 a month rent we could have $425. a month rent . that would put more money in people hands to spend on things that way buisnesses would thrive. THINGS WOULD GET BETTER.

Here's the beauty of the economy right now:

I own a business. I have 9 employees, some make $50k a year - not bad for not being college-educated (this also speaks to the moronic posts by theovermensch suggesting that I don't care). In fact, I just hired a receptionist at $9 an hour, which to my recollection, is NOT minimum wage but MORE.

My suppliers have raised their (wholesale) prices indiscriminately because... why? Retailers like me are the end of the supply chain and WE have to absorb this. Can I in turn raise my prices indiscriminately and expect to retain customers? NOPE. So I have to suck on this inflation for the time being to keep customers and keep my employees happy.

Result: All my employees are still employed, I am making NO money WHATSOEVER, so I have to apply for food stamps to EAT. I, the evil business owner who puts food on the table for 9 families. Yep - socialism sure is great.

There's a little business lesson for ya, theovermensch. Ya learned something today - try not to pee yourself.

Agreed. When people argue with me when I know what I am talking about, it pisses me off.

Thats looking at only one side. High minimum wage also makes it more difficult for the smaller businesses to become successful.

A friend of mine started a pizza business. Small, but after 5 years of hard work it was slowly beggining to make money. Well a new civic leadership was elected that procceded to raise business taxes. This removed any profit he was making and again he struggled to make a go of it. A year later a new provincial government was elected that raised minimum wage close to 2 dollar more. He closed the door for his business shortly after, putting about 10 people out of work. Maybe not a huge dent in the economy, but small businesses are important to the overall framework of economy. At least one i want to be a part of.

Raising minimum wage hurts small businesses that hire workers and creates inflation.

Yes, $7.25 is a very low wage and you can't live comfortably on it.

That's why you get educated and learn a skill and work hard to improve yourself so you can get a job that pays well above minimum wage.

Most of the people that work minimum wage jobs are not interested in doing better (like my son) and has no drive.

What made America great was the ability to do whatever you wanted IF YOU PUT IN THE WORK.

If you sit on your ass and are an uneducated, lazy person nobody OWES you a good job or a good wage.

Life is what you make of it and you usually get out of it what you put in. I am sure it is like that in your country also.

most people i know..actually everyone i know come to think of it, lives paycheck to paycheck and both man and woman have to work. I don't know of many "housewives" unless the parents already made it big. It's not easy , especially for immigrants.

Minumum wage in the U.S. here is for the entry level type jobs into the workforce. Places like Mcdonald's and other fast food type restaurants pay this wage, some retailers like Wal-mart. K-mart, Meijer and the likes. Nobody in their right mind would settle for a minimum wage job for long. You either have to go to college, get lucky, or know somebody to get a job over the $15-18.00 mark.

I guess i agree but i gotta point out that we already have inflation at a very very high level ever since the fed was created actually so wages have nothing to do with OUR inflation and our standard of living just gets worse every year

I remember getting paid 6.40 an hour here in the US.

7.40 would've been a nice raise if I was still employed by a company like Wal-Mart.

15 dollars an hour would've been awesome.
