I make a hefty 7.50/hr, working 9 hours mon-sat, sometimes 10-11 hrs.
And no, I can't live off of this, a paycheck goes in 3 days...
but that's what side jobs are for. An extra 700-800 a month doing geetar lessons helps.

Basically, making minimum wage, you have to scratch and claw to make ends meet.

And apparently there are struggling small business owners that think they are "smarter" than you. Better than you. People should be angry about that.

Guess what? Minimum wage IS for 16-year-olds. That's what you should make if you have no job experience, no advanced education and no life experience. If you are an adult living in the US and are making minimum wage, guess what? You probably should have been in school learning stuff rather than cutting class and getting high. Want to make more than 8 bucks an hour? Get your ass to college and learn something.

Wow Mr. Limbaugh, i didn't realize you were a member. I think you may have missed one or two of the "talking points" that also would have worked nicely.
What about the people who have college degrees but there are no jobs for them? McDonalds isn't even hiring right now.
If these corporations would use our own countrymen as their workforce and pay them enough to live off of people would have more money to spend on the products that are made, therefore stablizing the economy. Their profits may not be records as they are now but as a whole we would be better off.

Housing needs to go DOWN with the recession so that people have money in their pockets to spend. THIS WILL HELP BUISNESSES THRIVE. Example $850 rent to $450 rent. Lower GAS PRICES, Lower taxes and when the people start spending everything else will fall into place. WE WILL START TO PROSPER , everyone including the buisnesses.

Raise taxes? How are business owners supposed to pay more money in taxes and a higher minimum wage? You do realize jobs come from business owners...?

I agree that Wallstreet is all jacked up, but, you can't forget that small business owners are the heart of the workforce. Taxing them and forcing them to pay more wages only destroys small business. What happens when small business is destroyed? Giant corporations take over, then you get more regulation because people scream about them buying up and killing the small Ma and Pa businesses. The answer is less regulation. Let people do what they want and work for what they want.

You would never low ball the Doctor that was going to remove your cancer.

I am not suggesting making it harder on small business. The corporations are the ones that are taking too much. If you limited market share of corporations like walmart it would create more opportunity in the market. And regulations should be rolled back for small business. You should help small business at the expense of the corporations.

Raising minimum wage will directly hurt small business owners. But wait, you want Walmart to take the hit. So when they raise prices due to extra regulations and the people that shop there take the hit to the pocket book do you suggest raising minimum wage again? Or more taxation?

The BIG BANKSTERS did this mess and are making it worse. Look at all those properties that got sold. BAD, now we have a bad rating. IT IS THE HOUSING CRISIS ALONG WITH GAS that is causing the HAVOC.

Housing did this, and yes, it is a SCHEME. You are right.

Another of the problems are the tax loopholes that the mega corps take advantage of that would help out greatly.
Closing those loopholes and flattening out taxes would go to great lengths to helping the economy and helping out small businesses to stay afloat.

Again, you are confusing the economy with minimum wage, which is the topic. College graduates can't find a job because there are none to find. I cannot find a job and I have over 25 years experience in my field and mad skillz. It is not how much minimum wage is or whether you think that just because you just graduated from college (congratulations), it is the fact that wall street is stealing us blind. Bitching about corporate greed in this thread is like trying to fix a blown engine by tightening the lug nuts.

I do not listen to Limbaugh, so if I am hitting on his talking points, it is probably because they are COMMON SENSE.

And you are oversimplifying things to a cartoonish degree. How about mentioning 'unions' and 'frivolous class-action lawsuits' in the same sentence as "f these corporations would use our own countrymen as their workforce...".

McDonald's is hiring in my town. So are Taco Bell and Long John Silver's. They are paying minimum wage, but it's also minimum work. Nobody should expect $15 an hour for dumping and salting fries. That's what minimum wage is for. Get your foot in the door, get some work experience, learn how to be on time and juggle finances. Then move up or move on. That's precisely how I and tens of millions of others did it.

Now I'm only sort of poor.

Limit their market share. Pass laws ensuring consumer rights so they cannot continue making such demonic profit margins.
I suggest raise minimum wage and higher taxation for the rich. Yes.
We can pass laws on corporations like Walmart that ensure they actually contribute to the economy as opposed to raping it. We are not beholden to them. We need to make things that are important election issues. I think that is what OWS is about. We are not helpless. Corporations need us,we dont need them. It needs to be made easier for smal business.

regardless of what obama is or isnt...many socialist policies have been implemented in the US especially in the last 50 years. obama has taken them to new highs. the current aristocracy is closer to corporatism (fascism) anyway.

i say lump em all together and give em to the canadians, europe, south america and whoever else wants it, but it be nice if the country went back to its capitalistic roots

NOW WITH THESE FIGURES IN MIND: and this is very close to actuals even tho they take out more.

For a single person, basic needed living exspenses: Necessities only.

Average rent: $850. a month.
Electric: most rental units do not pay electric and you almost always has an electric stoves. ave. bill=$100 month
Phone: $65 a month.
Gas car to go to work, average 25 miles to work.To fill my tank is $35. and i go thru 2 fills a week.=$70.
Insurance car: $50. a month.
Food: $200. a month.
TOTALS: $1,545. A MONTH. Lets see if the guy making $9 an hour can make it, YOU DECIDE.

$9hr. NOPE
$10hr. NOPE
$11hr. NOPE
$12hr. NOPE
$13hr. YES, BARELY, NOT RECOMMENDED
$14hr. YES, BARELY, NOT RECOMMENDED
$15hr. YES
$16hr. YES
I feel sorry for those that have children. This only makes things worse.
Most places around here hire you thru temp. services, because buisnesses do not want to pay for health insurance on a newbie. Most temp. services around here start you at $9 dollars an hour. More often what happens they don't hire you after your 90 day trial period and you end up quitting or they say that they don't need you anymore. This practice has been going on since the 80's. If you say something about this they get rid of you and say there is no more work to be done and then they go and hire a new temp and start the process all over again. THIS IS THE NEW FACIST ECONOMY WE HAVE HERE.
Most people get one or two roomates, because they cannot afford to live in the apartments. Rent usually goes up from $850 a month for a one bedroom to a two bedroom apartment.
THE BANKS did not take a cut for our recession. That is why the rent on apartments did not go down at all, it only went UP.
The way around here is, it is helpful to have a two or more person system with helping the bills. Laws here say that you can have only 1 person per bedroom under the age of 12. Remember, the more bedrooms the more exspensive it is to pay.

Housing costs are the problem. CUT them in HALF. instead of $850 month rent it should be $425. THE BANKSTER THUGS did not go down when the recession hit. THEY ONLY WENT UP. If people had more money in thier pockets to spend, then buisnesses would thrive. I SAY, cut housing in half. CUT IT NOW.

Every thing you are saying will cripple the small business.

You are right about Walmart, we don't need them. However, many people want them and shop there every day. What about the people that are happy with the service they provide?
