Typical orbit of a GPS is 22,000 miles

nope, lower than that. GPS satellites are in an orbit 20 200km (12 600 miles). Communication satellites on the other hand are in a geostationary
orbit, and they are at a height of 35 768km (22 236 miles). I know it is a technicality, but I have worked a lot with GPS systems, and it became a
sore point to me to see how many people thought that GPS satellites were in a geostationary orbit, and of course, if you try to explain to people the
why and why not's with GPS's, it clarifies a lot of confusion when they realize that GPS satellites are NOT in a geosyncronous orbit.
