I think it could be part of the reason that fiber optic cable has been strung all across the United States. They were laying giant fiber optic cables up through southeast Alaska when I was there a couple of years ago.
EMPs have no effect on fiber optics from what I understand, and the guys who were laying the cable through southeast AK were telling me that it is a HUGE string of cable that they are putting out.

I wonder if there is a connection...

I've said it once and I'll say it again..... ANY major strike on American soil will lead to WORLD destruction, I'm not talking of retaliatory action of either side. Any strike in the North Western end of America or adjacent zones will be the end of the human race as a whole and no concrete hole or city of holes anywhere will make you any safer. Survival will depend on Skill and a shed load of luck.

Well that could be true about the EMP, but the reason why you are seeing so much more fiber optic cables today is because it has a much greater capacity than your standard cables, and its a much better product....

The Chinese, recently bought an electronics company in the small town near us. they are buying many such businesses small and large...they would be hurting themselves if they did this.

Pulses are energy. And without the energy of, say, a nuclear bomb, you cannot get the same range. If you could, then Tesla's wireless energy plants would have come a century ago. And if they do it, it will mean the end of energy monopoly.

I bet/hope those strings of cable go right through military bases.

Or at least that would be the smart thing to do.

Any smart country that attacked the US would have to use an EMP first or just nuke us. Anything else would end very badly for everyone, well so would that. Nukes, they are bad for everyone, period.
STOP THE NUKES!!!!!

I think perhaps you don't understand how EMPs work.

Go ahead. Explain how a light bulb would break from an EMP.

EMPs affect solid state magnetic devices. Not every thing electronic. Just those components more or less. The ability to replace these things is not that difficult. I say to you again, it would talk about 3-5 years to rebuild.

Now imagine such an event. No power, cars, plains, train, Phone, all generators and pumps go out,Deliveries of food, water, medical supplies and consumer goods are all dependent on electronics. Oil refineries, coal-fired power plants and even renewable energy systems are all entirely driven by complex electronics. ALL nuclear power plants in America will start melting down because of the backup generators being wiped out and stopping the flow of water to the reactor! We would go back to the stone age. If you have plans to bug out, your now screwed because 95% of a cars don’t work anymore. Everything will have to be calculated in walking distance.

Sounds like HEAVEN! I'd walk down to Amish country and have a nice picnic and laugh at the city-slickers who would be so screwed.

I don't believe that any country has clean EMP weapon, its so high tech weapon. If they want to EMP pulse whole America, they need really big nuclear weapon. And blasting nuclear weapon at 300 miles is not very wise, imagine what would happen to our atmosphere, it would be end of the world. Plus fallout would spread around the world. 300 miles is practically space. They want to doom whole earth? EMP is not problem when there is no atmosphere and lethal radiation fills the world. Radiation would slowly rain to earth, for decades.

Its good thing we don't have technology for that big bomb yet, how you get that thing to orbit? ;D That bomb would be bigger than ISS

There seem to be a theme on this site of people wanting the balance to be against the U.S first then the English speeking world then the world itself.

If it's China and the U.S then the U.S must lose.

If it's China or the middle east against the English speaking world then the English speaking world will lose.

If it's earth compared to some alien race that no one actually knows for sure is out there then we are a primitive race so backward that we're no better off than the other apes

There's no doubt that if the U.S went up aginst any developed country it would bleed from places it didn't know it could. I mean there's a difference between an uneducated tribesman with an AK and a uni graduate with the lates weapon.

But why is the Scenerio always that the U.S will lose?
Why is the Scenerio always that the English speaking world will fall?
Why is the Scenerio that aliens would rule us and we couldn't put up a fight?

I think some people are hurting and unhappy with their English speaking lives and rather than get help they just hope it will all end.

Using nukes would result in nuclear warfare. Does China really want the chinese homeland to be glazed? of course not!

With that said, it would be nice to have US infrastructure EMP hardened, a certain percentage of it is, but it is quite low. Its not nuclear EMP that Im worried about....its solar flares and EMP distrubances from our sun that has me most worried.

Huh?

What does your post have to do with the price of tomatoes? I don't believe that anybody here is unhappy with their English speaking world. Or that most people on this website have a predilection for losing any conflicts with either real or imagined foes.

Back to the EMP scenario, I have read One Second After and it did make me think about buying an old car. And establishing a worst-case-scenario emergency plan for my immediate family.

The US military has been emp hardened since the 60s. So the military wouldnt skip a beat in such a scenario. However, our industrial capacity would be heavily limited. basically, if the scenario that is played out in the OP ever came to happen, the same would happen to China, Russia, etc. Basically we all go back to fighting with sticks and stones.

The pulse from the blast only functions as a trigger, nothing else.

A conventional warhead is not a nuclear warhead, thereby it functions differently to acquire the same EMP effect.

English speaking lives?

uh...

Well no. The primary thing is that the west in general is currently experiencing a situation similar to that of the past when governments were too distant from their people. The results are revolution and national socialism. While most of us say publicly we would never want another Hitler, the fact of the matter is that our situations make it all too likely we would go along with one.

Think about it. If a General came along saying if you fight for him he'll give you a house and a car, and tear down these monopolies and government bureaucrats, would the common man ignore him?

These situations have come before. We do want it all to end, but just our governments. And it is most sad what that will bring about.
