In todays world, the founders would be viewed as extremist idiots...I doubt if they would even get 1% of any vote.

That would say more of us than it would of them.

The notion of choice for the American people is encouraging, but it is all an illusion... As believable as the promises presidential candidates make every election cycle.

In the end, they are all the same, ultimately.

The USA has reached a level of manipulation, corruption and influence in government, at all levels, that any hope anyone puts in any presidential candidate,or other candidates is a waste of hope. Disappointment is assured.

That is the way it is... IMO

I agree, and disagree.

I would agree whole heartedly to the fact that they didn't appropriately "think" when it came to slavery. The concept is ancient, and I agree that it's wrong...I would also second to the idea that not allowing women to vote is wrong.

However, the fundamentals of the constitutional rights, and presence of government is what we're discussing here moreso. I would disagree that a Constitutionalist leader, if there were one would claim less than 1% of the electoral vote. There are quite a few more people in the United States that are straight up fundamentalists than one might think.

Yes, it would say that we have evolved in our thinking...and they have not.

Am I to assume that you support everything they stood for? Do you agree with them that women had no right to vote? Do you agree that slavery was just fine?

Or do you disagree with the beloved founding fathers *GASP*....blasphemy

But they are correct about a free market ... and THAT is what Obama was saying they were wrong about. Obama worships the Euro-socialist way of doing things ... even as it falls apart and needs our $$$ to be bailed out with. It's completely irrational on his part. Unless he wants the Euro-socialist way of doing things because he knows it will destroy what's left of our economy .... and if that's the case then he's an evil destroy-america genius to be where he is now and doing what he's doing.

I wouldn't argue with you there, however...I still do believe that the voting process to a degree does have some persuasion still in the electoral process for the president. To date the only example I can find that would prove otherwise is the Bush/Gore elections of 2000. However, I am open minded to the idea that the electoral system is fixed to a degree.

But they are correct about a free market

That is a matter of opinion.

And if it has already been shown that they aren't infallible and can in fact be wrong...who says they are right about this?

You put too much trust in profit driven corporations to self-regulate. Regulations were started for a reason...because corporations used the "free market" to their advantage to abuse workers and consumers.

If you are for a "free market"...I guess you think child labor is perfectly fine...right? And you think that sweat shops are fair play...right? You must support American companies building factories overseas and paying next to nothing wages...because that is the "free market"...how dare anyone try to regulate that pristine model

My argument to that would be, at the very least Bush attempted to reduce government influence and spending at the very end when he realized he was in too deep, whereas Obama's idea has been to spend us out of debt and increase government payroll.

Taxation? -

Taxation is only used when the leaders dont know how to lead.

Cant control your government? Make the people pay, and make the government bigger.

Oh yea, sounds real lovely.

Hes blaming the founders for his inabilities to govern.

Anybody who still believes in Obama to do the "right" thing on any issue, is either very blind, very ignorant, or just attatched to him in a way an ex stalker would be attatched to their former lover.

Obama = Joke played on the people

Founders= Very old dead men who still know more about government than this crazy bastard could ever wish to understand.

Obama: Limited Gov't That Preserves Free Markets 'Doesn't Work. It Has Never Worked'

In a speech delivered at Osawatomie High School in Osawatomie, Kansas, on Tuesday, President Barack Obama argued that while a limited government that preserves free markets "speaks to our rugged individualism" as Americans, such a system "doesn't work" and "has never worked" and that Americans must look to a more activist government that taxes more, spends more and regulates more if they want to preserve the middle class...

"Now, it’s a simple theory," said Obama. "And we have to admit, it’s one that speaks to our rugged individualism and our healthy skepticism of too much government. That’s in America’s DNA. And that theory fits well on a bumper sticker. But here’s the problem: It doesn’t work. It has never worked.

Wow...BS and chop up quotes much?

He wasn't talking about free markets...he was talking about trickle down theorey.

Now, just as there was in Teddy Roosevelt’s time, there is a certain crowd in Washington who, for the last few decades, have said, let’s respond to this economic challenge with the same old tune. “The market will take care of everything,” they tell us.

If we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes -- especially for the wealthy -- our economy will grow stronger.

Sure, they say, there will be winners and losers.

But if the winners do really well, then jobs and prosperity will eventually trickle down to everybody else. And, they argue, even if prosperity doesn’t trickle down, well, that’s the price of liberty.

Now, it’s a simple theory. And we have to admit, it’s one that speaks to our rugged individualism and our healthy skepticism of too much government. That’s in America’s DNA. And that theory fits well on a bumper sticker. (Laughter.) But here’s the problem: It doesn’t work. It has never worked. (Applause.) It didn’t work when it was tried in the decade before the Great Depression. It’s not what led to the incredible postwar booms of the ‘50s and ‘60s. And it didn’t work when we tried it during the last decade. (Applause.) I mean, understand, it’s not as if we haven’t tried this theory.

Don't really know about that.
What I do know is that Obama is a nuclear power rocket ship, and Bush was a steam train.
Both suck(ed), but Obama is bar far the worst of the worst of the worst.

hahahaha It didn't work because it hasn't been in operation for a hundred years...since the fascist Big Govt Wilson. Wilson killed the American Dream FDR kicked it dead on the ground. Obama still beating it to death. Obama is definitely following the Progressive roadmap as his fellow travelers have.
Oh yah and Glenn Beck's radio program discussing this was so amazing I couldn't believe it.

NOPE...He did not say that about "Free Markets"...He praised free markets

The transcript clearly states that...

"If we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes -- especially for the wealthy -- our economy will grow stronger. "

"Doesn't work" and has "Never worked"

And he is correct.

People who are pridefully dishonest and hack together out of context quotes for idealogical purposes have no place on a site claiming to "Deny Ignorance"

This is what he said about free markets..

Theodore Roosevelt disagreed. He was the Republican son of a wealthy family. He praised what the titans of industry had done to create jobs and grow the economy. He believed then what we know is true today, that the free market is the greatest force for economic progress in human history. It’s led to a prosperity and a standard of living unmatched by the rest of the world.

But Roosevelt also knew that the free market has never been a free license to take whatever you can from whomever you can.

my god i am reading all of the post here and really worry about america more and more...what u call "Euro-socialism" is the society i am living in. And here in germany we have a much better health system than you do..we have a better social system , less poor people, we take care of the ones without money...and our economy is more stable than yours...our elections cant be manipulated as yours because it is not allowed for corporations to donate for parties and controlling the powers like in your country..you are still so full of that "socialistic" clichees ...and still dont see that "regulation" is something that prevents a system from becoming Corporatistic. We regulate our system to not have monopolistic structures..and still you are afraid of "Euro-Socialism"??? HOW? Your system clearly does not work at ALL!
what the ++++ do u think a free market is? Its a system that u have right now-> a world where corporates define everything...a system without social security...
Regulation is not a bad thing when the right ones are regulated-> the big companies

Nice quote mining in that article. I watched the entire speech and he was talkingn about trickle down economics whe he said that "it has never worked". Way to pick a sensationalist article and take it as truth. Though I shouldnt really expect better from people on here anymore. Just pure disinformation.

btw i studied law for 7 years..and i am glad to live in germany..i guess with my education i would be in debt (maybe 100 000 Dollars ) in america..here: i did not have to pay for my studies.

So please define: what is the "Euro socialism" you are afraid of?

i really dont get it..you are angry about THE FED? ...while the fed is a clear example of a free market? To end the fed means to regulate economy..didnt u understand that?
Thats what regulation is all about: keeping economic interests of the 1 percent out of the socially relevant structures..

I'm no huge fan of Obama, at all, but to blame him is naive. The problems we are facing today are the result of decades of exceptionally arrogant corruption and criminal behavior by our leaders, all the way from the White House to your/my local city council. To think that we think of Tammany Hall as the height of corruption and, compared to politics today, Boss Tweed was actually pretty darned honest.

Short of a massive, groundswell revolution (of opinions, not guns), nothing will change, and it will all continue to slide downhill. The scales, right now, in fact, may be too weighted to one side to ever right things.

~Heff

Unfortunately, that tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots AND tyrants. A revolution has been brewing for some time. It would be frivolous to think that when the guns of tyrants are pointed at our heads that true Americans won't fight back.

He clearly was referring to the Free Market which he said doesn't work and never worked( I think he was channeling free marketeers saying that communism never worked, he just inverted it is all) and then he inserted the "trickle down" theory after that. I seem to remember a few months ago he was trying to emulate Reagan. Talk about flip flopping. He is very adept at twisting things around when he wants to.
So he emulates Reagan when he wants to sweet talk Republicans and insinuates his policies were bad when he wants to sweet talk Democrats.
