We know that Islam is very strict and has often very bizarre rules, like women need to be all covered..and now the recent thread about forbidding women to touch bananas. (Where i don't know whether this one is a joke or not).

Also..remember the episode a few weeks ago with the blogger from Egypt who caused outrage in the Islam world because she posted a naked picture on her blog. (Made the news big time)

My question is, whether those rules only apply to their women?

For example, women are being punished if they don't wear those head-dresses or if they post naked pictures on a blog - but men have freedom to do things, for example surfing on the internet, watching porn etc.?!

I am asking since i really don't know.

It's called decency.
It is not only in Islam - it is the same in the Old and New Testament.
It applies to both MEN and WOMEN.
They shall both be decent and humble.

No woman will be punished in Islam if she doesn't have a head covering.

It is another thing if she is walking around completely naked - because THAT can cause public stir. That is why it is not allowed. And it is also valid for men.

And no, neither women, nor men should watch porn.

That is the whole reason of marriage. If you have a biological need for sex - get married.

Men like that are everywhere. It just happens that men like this rule the culture over there and keep the women in line with severe punishments.

Here in Amerika, you can have the same thing, too. Just advertise that you want to be in a relationship with a control freak. You'll get an incredible amount of hits. Choose one and watch how he easily moves in. First, he'll go through your closet and throw out everything he deems as "too sexy", then he'll decide which of your friends are acceptable for you to associate with, then he'll do the same with your family members. Then, he'll tell you you don't need to work and can stay at home. This is the final lock. You'll find yourself with a bunch of bland clothes, no friends or family to turn to, and no money to run away with.

Total and complete control.
Oh, and don't step out of line if you aren't sexually aroused by being punched in the face.

Saddest sentence ever...
Guess, in your eyes, sex should just be used as reproductive means amirite?

The problem lies in how backwards the world has gone.

Did you actually read what I wrote?

Marriage was not intended for people to reproduce through sex. That is not the main function.
The MAIN function of marriage is to satisfy your biological need for sex.

I can't agree with you.
I believe that marriage solidified that she would be carrying the man's offspring and male heirs. It was also intended to make sure a man had a live in servant to be at the house 24/7 while he was out warring about and sleeping with whomever he wished during his conquests for power and riches.

They sure are a strange bunch.

Prudes in this life, but their afterlife beliefs are full of depravity.

There is a line in the Talmud that reads: "There is no beauty like Jerusalem, no wealth like Rome, no magic like Egypt, no depravity like Arabia." That was written in the third century A.D.

No Wealth Like Rome, No Depravity Like Arabia

Arafat has only a few more hours to live. Some speculate he is dying from symptoms related to AIDS. Given the strong inclination that Arab men have toward homosexuality, that wouldn't seem so far-fetched. No matter, the repugnant little possum will soon be dead. And the world, will then be a far better place.

Arab pederasty was personified in Yasser Arafat, one of the vilest human beings to ever infest the earth. During the Cold War, Arafat was a frequent guest of Romania's Communist dictator Nicolae Ceaucescu, who would put him up in his palace in Bucharest. Always included in Arafat's retinue was a selection of young boys. What Arafat didn't know was that Ceaucescu's secret police, the Securitatae, would covertly film his bedroom escapades. The Israeli intel agency Mossad has copies. Ask any Mossad guy about them and he rolls over in a fit of laughter.

Yes, but the main reason of living is to REPRODUCE.
Now, it's up to you to decide what's more important.

I choose reproducing.

I'm not sure which comment you were directing your comment to, but if it were the first one, there are plenty of men out there that would love to have the opportunity to be with a passive woman he can have total control over. If you were commenting about my second post, I was simply stating the original reason for marriage. I wasn't meaning that a modern young man on the commoner level thinks about male heirs and robbing/pillaging, but I could be wrong.

WRONG. Women and girls are punished TO DEATH -
Just one example of many -

BBC News - Saudi police 'stopped' fire rescue

Saudi Arabia's religious police stopped schoolgirls from leaving a blazing building because they were not wearing correct Islamic dress, according to Saudi newspapers. In a rare criticism of the kingdom's powerful "mutaween" police, the Saudi media has accused them of hindering attempts to save 15 girls who died in the fire on Monday...

According to the al-Eqtisadiah daily, firemen confronted police after they tried to keep the girls inside because they were not wearing the headscarves and abayas (black robes) required by the kingdom's strict interpretation of Islam.
One witness said he saw three policemen "beating young girls to prevent them from leaving the school because they were not wearing the abaya".

The Saudi Gazette quoted witnesses as saying that the police - known as the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice - had stopped men who tried to help the girls and warned "it is a sinful to approach them". The father of one of the dead girls said that the school watchman even refused to open the gates to let the girls out.

Side note - talking about sex and Islam -

Fatwa Permits Mujahideen to Kidnap, Imprison, and Have Sexual Intercourse with Infidel Women

Lovely bunch ...

You must be a man ... you forgot the LOVE but remembered the sex.

Marriage per the Catholic Church

Marriage is a practice common to all cultures in all ages. It is, therefore, a natural institution, something common to all mankind. At its most basic level, marriage is a union between a man and a woman for the purpose of procreation and mutual support, or love. Each spouse in a marriage gives up some rights over his or her life in exchange for rights over the life of the other spouse.

These days, people confuse maintaining decency with oppression,
and promiscous, slut-like behavior with "freedom" and "liberation".

According to the Qur'an, women are not commanded to cover their heads. This is true, Allah only says this:

"And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment save to their own husbands or fathers or husbands' fathers, or their sons or their husbands' sons, or their brothers or their brothers' sons or sisters' sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male attendants who lack vigour, or children who know naught of women's nakedness." [Qur'an 24:31]

"O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful." [Qur'an 33:59]

All of the strict rules of head and face covering comes from ahadith (Words and Actions of Prophet Muhammad). Hadith work like this: John said that Bob said that he heard from Julie that Jacob saw Muhammad wash his hands three times before drying them. Yep, hadith is a religious game of 'Telephone / Chinese Whispers.' Allah never says for women to cover their head or faces in the Qur'an. Muslims make women cover their heads and faces because he said that he said that she said that Muhammad said.

----------------------------------------------------------

According to Islamic cultural custom, women are considered naked except their heads and hands. Men are considered naked from their naval to their knees.

Women must only have sex with their husband.
Men may have sex with his wife (up to 4 wives) and he may rape his female slaves.
Men and women are not allowed to have sex outside of marriage, with the exception to a female slave and her male master.

Sick crap, I know. But this is Islamic truth.

You're joking right? The main reason of living is to REPRODUCE? Not in my book.

And about the MAIN function of marriage is to satisfy the biological need for sex..well that is what the church says. Me, I can think of other ways to take care of that.

It takes two to tango. Why is it you pin that on the woman? If some men weren't so afraid of women and sex it would be a non-issue. But the fear of women and sex is so pervasive that the whole Jewish-->Christian-->Islam line of religion has perpetuated a hatred towards women and attributed it to a "God."

I was referring to a line in the OP concerning women being covered.

My stance is that modern cultures which honor a woman being covered in public are LESS likely to tolerate stripbars and pornography which degrades women.

Now, some might perceive strip bars and porno as "freedom", while considering religious regulations on female attire as "oppression" or "hatred towards women". But its all subjective.
