Would we be at war right now?

Can any British please answer why you have not declared war on Iran?

I think in America if Iran attacked one of our embassies and recent word on the street is that they are thinking about doing so, war would be just around the corner. In America this probably would be considered an act of war on their part!

well, lets see the 1979 Iran US hostage, Beirut Lebanon USMC Barracks on October 23, 1983 bombing, so no do not see it then do not see it now US going to war? would not happen now. Now if you ask me about Pakistan or the Invasion of Iran then this is a different matter.

Well obviously if Iran had attacked a US Embassy it would be a suicidal act of war, the US is still presently the worlds sole super-duper power and has a rather large pool of resources to throw at any nation it so chooses.

We in the UK however have very few resources and so are forced to choose our battles.

We also understand that the UK Embassy in Iran was the ONLY western Embassy in Iran, and as such it was also a proxy Embassy for the US and Israel, given this is the case it is clear the attack was directed at the West in general so as to remove any Western base of operations for intel gathering and co-ordination.

The UK has already played major parts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, another war for us will not be acceptable at this time, we are actually more concerned with the Euro crisis.

Nobody was hurt, everybody got out alive, it was a political glove slap and a warning, you know Diplomats are expelled all the time in lots of places, Embassies open, Embassies close.

No problem here as bombing of embassies is no longer seen as a slap in the face. The US bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade. So if the OP feels that its a justification for going to war, it is because he is an American. You cannot bomb an American embassy and get away with it but they can bomb your embassy and you can't do anything about it. Americans are funny come to think of it. What they don't choose to see ....they don't see.

This thread highlights american ignorance and for that the non suspecting OP deserves a golfclap.

Making the blanket statement that Americans are ignorant highlights your own ignorance.

If you are referring to the recent student protest that resulted in the UK pulling it's embassy out of Iran...

My government has been waiting for an excuse to remove all staff and close their embassy in Iran for years. They needed a good reason and used the chance to finally close it as they desired... Politics is all a game, if you stand down without reason you look weak, you have to wait for the right card to play the game right. It's all it is.

Maybe it's the american way of thinking about going to war over EVERYTHING... but we in the UK would never think of declaring war because a few students climbed a gate a ripped up papers in an embassy...

You cannot justify a small protest groups actions as a "declaration of war".

Chances are that America or Israel would attack themselves and blame Iran, thats how it works, well how its always worked and the media will do the rest to convince the population that war is the only option to increase profits, sorry i meant peace.
