I wonder why there is always someone wanting to screw with the water... What's up with that anyway?

You know there are many more people in the world who suffer from things like heart concerns, erection disorders, obesity, and many other ailments. Why lithium to reduce suicide and depression? WHY NOT medications like drugs to fight heart disease and stroke, or diuretics or metabolism increasers to help fight off obesity, or Viagra to help people with erections...

Why is there such a "concern" with suicide of all things? A typical suicide rate is miniscule in comparison to the average problems of a population.

Why don't they just come out and be honest and say to the people, "Look, we have too many people who are thinking on their own and making their own free choices and becoming too independent of government and other controls. We need people to be less reactive to our right-wing policies that infringe on the constitution and the rights it gives people, so unless we see improvements to the populace's conformity to the ideals of a nwo, we NEED to dumb y'all down to allow us to improve your lives."

I wonder if the Rockefeller's just bought a lithium factory or something and are looking for a market to get into to sell their new product?

Now why would you argue that adding lithium is ok when you obviously feel so strongly about fluoride? I'm against water fluoridation too - but you actually said :-

"Happy water" sounds good to me...

So does strong teeth - that's what they sold fluoridation on and you never bought into that. Why buy into 'happy water? Can't you see the negatives in the list of side effects I posted?

These side effects are evident after taking lithium for a few weeks - just try to imagine what it would do to a body over a lifetime - and just try to imagine what it would do to a child.

Well, I wasn't trying to say he "looks funny" or anything, but he kinda does. My original point was... and it goes without saying... doesn't he look a little, over-medicated?

You say that you know nothing of lithium and then declare it has no effect when taken in low doses because it breaks down over time....how the hey do you know that?

edit on 5-12-2011 by christina-66 because: (no reason given)

*facepalm*

Try actually READING the post Jr.

I was ASKING if it breaks down over time because I don't know.

What I DO know is that there are plenty of people (most people) who take Lithium regularly and live happy normal lives free of the side-effects you listed.

They already do this in Japan.

Psychiatrists are always quick to prescribe solutions, but when the solution treats the symptoms and not the root cause, it is not a solution. I strongly believe, from having my own issues, many mental health problems are more a reflection of society. Stress is often caused by forcing yourself to fit in and act a certain way that fits best with the norms. Open discourse and getting rid of taboos imo is the real solution, but in this plastic society people often maintain artificial self images which is why people judge each other and cause these issue imo. If we were all more open with each other there would be no reason to judge because we could understand each other instead. That is my prescription.

last time i checked, stress is the confusion created when one's mind overrides the body's basic desire to choke the living # out of some asshole that desperately deserves it.

Which you don't do because you can't because society doesn't take too kindly to that lol.

I meant to post this yesterday. Still can't believe it.

We already have them poisoning the country with fluoride as it is here. Some may say this is why we have not risen up or even had a sniff of a proper protest against the actions of our Government.

It's a slippery slope this island is on right now.

When I was younger I was epileptic... they gave me tegretol and discovered years later that it caused Manic Depression for as long as you take it after the first 7 years.... so they gave me lithium...

That was the worst feeling I've ever been... totally flat... no artistic muse... etc....

I disagree with this idea...

I hope no one takes this idiot's advice. The sad thing is he is most likely parroting whatever the big pharma companies paid him to say. I mean really, what kind of idiots would support anti-depressants in the drinking supply. If someone is diagnosed with an illness that "requires" it then give them the pills (I'm against this kind of medication by the way).

They are always talking about this in the news in North American too, it's nothing new.

It isn't an antidepressant it as a mood stabilizer there is a difference.

Has the psych. done any research into the causes of the rash of suicides? Perhaps that would be a worthwhile undertaking?

It wouldn't reduce suicides it's safe to say. It more than likely wouldn't help prevent depression, and those already depressed wouldn't benefit from a medication taken at 1/1000th the normal dose.

When I want lithium I will go to the doctor and when I want water I will turn on my faucet and that is ALL that should be coming out of it PERIOD!

I do not want to be forced medicated........this is wrong!

How much you wana bet a pharma company who produces Lithium is paying this person to say thi? Leave our water alone! Freedom means giving us the choice! Not forcing us to have chemicals in drinking water because they think they no what's best. What's next? telling us what we can and can't eat?

There is a natural lithium spring in a town nearby, and a water fountain that never stops.. the water tastes terrible. Let alone forced medication.. the water would not be palatable for therapeutic dosage.

Lithium is mainly for bipolar disorder not just depression. Putting anything in the water can bring about numerous consequences to population, as we all know well here in US. Lithium has severe side effects and only a narrow window for therapeutic blood levels, also people with GI problems for sodium electrolyte levels can be seriously harmed or killed.....

Sounds like this psychiatrist needs some lithium just for recommending the idea...Geesh
