13 Foot Burmese Python Kills Owner

This is from an article written back in 1996.I am posting this old article
because it does give useful advice for properly handling and feeding these
creatures,also warnings about them as well.
Every pet owner should be responsible for their pets care and safety.Those
individuals who do own exotic pets should never purchase an animal that may
grow too big for them to handle.
I am writing this post because I was not able to sleep last night,I kept thinking
about that kitten.

There is nothing wrong about owning one of these creatures just use some
common sense when dealing with them.Kittens and puppies are not on the
menu.

There is something strange in the story in your link
It states that the boys bought the snake 5 month earlier for 300 dollar.
How can it be that this snake is 13 feet long after just 5 months?
That was an extreme growth of the snake, or???:
Are very large snakes that cheap to buy in the USA?

I don't know that much about snakes or how quickly they grow.
My guess is that when he bought the snake it was already that size.

Now thats more like it...

Star for you and more if I could give you more. I too had the impression of the snake and kitten story etched in my mind. When you cannot get your point across all you can do is keep trying and you have continued beautifully.

As for the young man who met his demise with his acquisition - I feel that perhaps he hadn't had enough preparation to own such an animal. That's the trouble with having the money but not the sense. A young life cut short.

I was always terrified of snakes and I live in a rural part of the country in Australia where we have some of the most toxic breeds in the world. Years ago I worked with a woman who had a real connection and respect for reptiles. She had several snakes and was a conscientious owner. It is only because she was educated and knowledgeable about her animals that I trusted her - in turn she educated me and I learned to trust the snakes.

It is amazing that from fear she took me to - can I hold the snake? It is truly amazing what an educated person can pass on to others. When I use the word educated I don't refer to diplomas and certificates - I refer to expert proper knowledge and first hand experience.

Burmese Python?? Owner gets eaten?? Oh goodness... Tell me it ain't so, joe! Naww... It couldn't be. The one that ate the cat wasn't that big, was it? I can always hope the dinner item here had recently lost a cat and filmed it for the internet to comment on....but we really aren't that lucky are we?

THIS guy was probably a good snake owner and did everything right and proper. Of course I don't know....but that would be how fate works these days. The evil little turds make YouTube videos for the world to get sick over while the decent people getting a bad name get eaten in freak accidents.

Owning one of these snakes without being aware
on how to properly handle them could cost you
your life.
That other thread the snake owner had the python
on his bed.He was handling the "food" personally.
This teaches the snake to associate the owner as
a possible food source.

Doesn't make a difference to me if you feel passionate about your animals.
But I know there's a bit of revenge in this thread hehe.

Why own a snake like that.. I just don't understand Why do people have to have one? Because you can?
This isn't a dog or a cat... This is not an animal that has been bred for thousands of years for companionship. And no matter how much you convince yourself that you have trained it.. It does not have the mental capacity to see you as a companion.. They don't have a pack hierarchy instinct.

A snake looks at you and sees 3 things threat / not a threat / food. Unfortunately this guy wasn't the first in that list.

I hope its the owner who fed lil kitten to his python!!
Why do people own pets i dont know
It was wild before so it shud stay that way
Animal instinct makes them dangerous
This goes for fighting breeds of dogs/snakes etc
I feel sorry for pets cause they not trully free
They will sooner or later bite hand that feeds them

is still the same today.Burmese pythons handle with
care.
They can grow to sizes where they can eat your kids,
your other pets and YOU.I would never consider owning
a snake.
