Nice analysis Viking.

If the ME / Islamist harden up all along the Southern borders and become more intractable and insecure this is entirely possible.

Also, the Russians would be able to take a major short cut by invading Finland

I should think after the Winter War, the Russians would not be so foolish as to invade Finland. Mind you, if Russia invaded one EU nation, it would be seen as an invasion of all the EU nations, and would invoke a suitably vicious response.

Yes, I have thought of that as well. But wouldn't it be possible for the Russians to invade at summer time? Besides, the Russian army is much different from the old WWII army. It's not a Warhammer 40.000K style army, where soldiers will die in the hands of the enemy or in the hands of their officers, should they flee or disobey.
If Europe was to respond to the Russian invasion, it would take some time to muster all able bodied men and ship them to the Nordic countries. Here is where the Baltic Sea comes into play; IF the Russians would invade Finland, their fleet would obviously be quite active in the Baltic, along with fighter sorties aimed at destroying all European navies located there. If the Russians manage to take control of the Baltic, they would leave Norway, Sweden and Finland in a dire situation. Troops and materials would have to be freighted across the Baltic (most likely over the Oresund Straight) which would be impossible if the Russians controls the Baltic. They would simply blow up the first tank to cross that bridge!
For defenses to be successful, the other European nations would either have to airlift troops to Norway/Sweden/Finland - a task that would be quite hard due to the large amount of Russian planes in the area, or they could freight reinforcements to the western shores of Norway, This would be a long and slow undertaking and would give the Russians valuable time to deal with us

The UK and France have enough missiles and whisper silent submarines to sink the entire Russian fleet before we even set sail. The planes are outdated and would be no bother for modern Eurofighter and Rafael technology - neither would the most advanced tanks that Russia possesses.

Russia has a large military, but it is conscripts with obsolete weapons systems, in comparison to a professional, highly trained armed forces equipped with the latest and most modern technology on earth. Not saying it would be easy, because it wouldn't, it would be absolutely horrific, but the task is not impossible.

But then, wouldn't it be possible for the Russians to win also? The Russians have missiles as well. The sheer number of fighters they posses could be enough to overrun our fighters.

Never underestimate an enemy. The Russians might not be as technologically advanced as the US but they have still got a lot of fight left in them. It would take a coordinated response from ALL of Europe to counter the Russian threat.

A lot of talk has been going on about the new ''flying boats'' that Iran has developed. People have bashed the idea and called it primitive and stupid. But give this vessel to a fanatic and produce enough of them to field a small navy and you could have a devastating weapon! If these small babies could be mounted with large caliber guns or explosives then they would be just as deadly as any missile developed. The loss/cost ratio would be much better than that of loosing a carrier or a few smaller navy vessels.
Point: numbers sometimes beats technology.

I live in Sweden, born and raised.
The democracy might look good from the outside, and even from the inside, but the reality is that Sweden is the perfect role model for a NWO. A very obedient, government-trusting, hard-working population that marry, reproduce and watch alot of tv. No questions asked, or voices raised.
Norway and Finland are similar to Sweden.
Denmark is a mixture of Sweden/Germany. Sort of.
You are either red or blue in sweden (just as we like our sports)...but 99,9% of all scandinavians fail to see that THERE IS NO RED OR BLUE TEAM! :-)

Move along. Nothing to see here. Move along

If you look at the figures for a combined EU military, we would have roughly the same number of fighter jets, a much larger naval capability with over 5 aircraft carriers but a smaller ground force. This is where we have the advantage. Since we have greater sea power, it would make it very hard for the Russians to advance much further than the Baltics and Finland. The carriers would be able to hold off the Russian air force for a short while, whilst the much larger EU air force moves in, once this is the case, the Russians would not be able to hold the airspace for more than a day. Once the invading Air Force and Navy are unable to provide support, the EU ground force would be able to move in with heavy air and sea cover. The Russians run out of supplies, we win.

Of course, this is all fantasy. Nothing ever goes as well as hoped, and a war on this scale would certainly have many problems.

News flash. Our defence is not about stopping any invasion from the east. We're geared and trained to delay it as much possible and then move to guerilla style warfare. Our system is so build that any invading force will have huge losses if they decide to hang around here.

True that. With the establishment of Hjemmeværnet (Danish militia), the focus has been changed from all out defense to a guerrilla style system. We'd probably give up as quick as we did during the Nazi invasion

And with the marine corps disbanded I don't really see us as having any kind of chance to retake any lost islands...Good luck Bornholm!
We rely a lot on our solidarity pact with the other Nordic countries and Europe should we ever be attacked.

Twitpop:
Well my figures have been wrong I guess. Still, the Russians would pose quite a threat. And yes, nothing goes according to plan in war. A lot of unforeseen or random events may change the plan in its entirety. I guess we will only ever know once Russia decides to step up to the immoral Western society
