Where are the pics? An RQ Sentinel is a stealth drone, not much is known about it. So I am curious as to why they presume that it is in fact an RQ-170. This should be taken with a grain of salt...unless Iran can post up pictures, I would be very skeptical.

Take it even further. There would be an outrage like no other. The whining & hyperbole would be incessant. The pattern is the same....what's good for the US is typically unacceptable for other nations.

They still do that, it's typical tactics to 'probe air defense systems'.

Here is an article about a Tu-95 entering NATO airspace and being escorted out just this August, and it says it's the fourth such event this year. aero-news.net

What you are posting is an example of the media not comprehending the difference between sovereign airspace and an air defence zone of interest - Flight Information Region. The zone of interest is in international airspace. The Russian aircraft are operating in international airspace. The Russians are operating outside the 12nm limit. NATO chooses to intercept them in international airspace. Exactly the same as NATO aircraft operating off the coast of Russia and being intercepted by Russian fighters.

www.airn.nato.int...

NATO Integrated Air Defence System (NATINADS) is busy working to keep our skies safe. A recent sortie by two Russian Tupolev TU-160 ‘Blackjack’ bombers illustrates the need for constant vigilance. Flying from mainland Russia they were detected as they swept over the northern tip of Norway in international air space and intercepted by NATO’s most northern NATINADS fighters, Norwegian F16s from NAAF Bodo. Subsequently, they were continuously tracked towards the UK and intercepted by two Tornado F3s fighters, part of the UK component of NATINADS, from RAF Leuchars in Scotland.

Wing Commander Mark Gorringe, Officer Commanding 111 Sqn, RAF Leuchars, said:

‘This is not an unusual incident and people may be surprised to know that our crews have successfully scrambled to intercept Russian aircraft on more than 10 occasions since the start of 2009.’

Some Russian missions fly far out into the Atlantic and whilst others journey south towards the coastline of north west Europe, turning short of penetrating sovereign airspace. These incidents concern NATO airmen as the Russian military flights are often not coordinated with civil Air Traffic Control (ATC) and therefore, can pose a real threat to flight safety in what are some of the busiest air-routes in the world. Although NATINADS is not responsible for flight safety across Europe, it contributes by assisting civil ATC by identifying and tracking such incidents.

www.itar-tass.com...

“At some points during the patrolling flight, the long-range aviation planes were escorted by a pair of Norwegian Air Force F-16 fighter planes,” Drik said.

“All flights of the Air Force planes were and are made in strict compliance with the international rules of the use of airspace over neural waters without violating the borders of other states,” he said.

www.publications.parliament.uk...

47. The UK press have featured stories that imply that Russia's air tactics are a threat to UK security.[76] We sought information from the MoD to clarify the scale and nature of the issue of military incursions into NATO and UK airspace. We were told that during 2007-2009 no Russian aircraft have entered UK airspace—defined as 12 nautical miles from the UK coastline—without authorisation. However, Russian military aircraft have entered the UK Flight Information Region—outside UK territorial airspace—without permission. This is part of international airspace and, as such, Russia is able to exercise its defence capabilities there.

Unfortunately the media get it all mixed up and the following is reported time and time again.

'Russian nuclear bombers invade UK Airspace'

'Two Russian bombers, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, have been caught flying over British airspace.
The unwelcome guests spent four hours flying over the Isle of Lewis despite being intercepted by two RAF jets.'

An audio hopefully of interest? Dutch F-16s scrambled to intercept two Russian Air Force Tu-95MS Bear Hs in international airspace over the North Sea

www.milspotters.nl...

The recording is nearly 12 minutes long and includes intercept of air-to-air communications between the two Bears in the North Sea.

05:46 is the portion of the audio where the Russians can be first heard. The main part is the Royal Netherlands Air Force scramble of their F-16s. They also mention that Danish and British QRA are in contact or have scrambled.

After looking at the thread I have decided to post this and do beleive it has been posted before.

First of all Iran has the capability of video, secondly if they really did do this they certainly would have made it public through media contacts throughout the middle east (Propaganda.). June 2011.

Second of all China is backing Iran and has stated through MILATARY SPOKESMAN that they intend to start a 3rd world war if NATO or the US infers with Iran in Milatary Agression.

Third I do believe China intends to back up what they say.>>>>>>>>>

China shoots down F22 over Alaska

The downed F22 fighter was loaded with a B83 Nuclear bomb. The crash site is considered extremely hazardous.

Update: The downed F22 in Alaska was loaded with nuclear ordnance.
“It was being considered a haz-mat scene,” Hayes said. “They had to get the right gear flown out there to the location so that the pararescuemen and the crash site recovery folks could safely get down there and do a search.”

An American F22 Raptor has been effectively shot down over Alaska by a Chinese submarine based laser weapon.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The military says the wreckage from a missing F-22 Raptor has been found in Alaska near Denali National Park.

An Air Force pilot was on a routine training mission with the F-22 Raptor when he lost contact with air traffic control at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday Alaska time.

Canadian F18 and Orion P3 Pilots first reported the use of exotic energy weapons being fielded by the Chinese while tracking Chinese submarines 400 km off the west coast of the Queen Charlotte Islands. In 2009 Canadian Navy ships tracked Chinese submarine activity within 28km of the BC coast and heavy Chinese commercial fishing operations which most certainly were performing electronic surveillance and jamming. Unmarked military grade electronic equipment has been found on Brooks Peninsula and Estevan Point on Vancouver Island, where in previous years 13 Chinese refugee boats had illegally landed. In 2007 a Colonel for the Canadian Land Forces Pacific Command was fired for claiming that China was conducting covert operations on the west coast from the Aleutian Islands down as far as Vancouver Island. www.ctv.ca...

Canadian CF-18 shot down by Chinese Energy weapon

Scarletwhore.com can now confirm that a 2nd fighter jet had been shot down by a Chinese energy weapon… most likely a laser. This time it was an F18 from CFB Cold Lake Alberta.

The day before an American F22 loaded with a B83 Nuclear Weapon was brought down over Alaska. US and Canadian Surface vessels have been using live munitions hunting several Chinese submarines off the west coast of North America. The new cold war has begun. Last week China snuck right up the crack of the US and launched an ICBM from within US waters off the California coast. The US has been using their own bag of super secret technological tricks over China recently in the game of covert warfare. It was no accident the story of Chinese cyber sabotage surfaced yesterday… this new Cold War is now in full swing.

Do not underestimate how dangerous of a time this is. .

There you go. While not yet confirmed of Iran shot down a drone. I don't think the us will admit to this. The usual "wasn't us" will be in order. Meanwhile they secretly plot their revenge. How dare Iran protect their skies.

thanx, a small step closer.
who knows for sure, maybe the damn thing ran out of fuel.

It seems that you cannot admit that the US indeed incursed into Iranian territory. The truth may hurt but you have to accept it.

well;

now what?

U.S. military personnel stationed at Shamsi Air Base in Pakistan have started to leave after the country's government told them to go following a NATO attack that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers near the Afghan border.

Shamsi Air Base, situated in Baluchistan Province in south-west Pakistan, was used by the CIA to operate drone aircraft, which carried attacks inside Pakistan tribal areas.
CIA, US Marines start to leave Pakistan drone base

(Reuters) - Iranian media reported on Sunday that their country's military had shot down a U.S. reconnaissance drone in eastern Iran, but a U.S. official said there was no indication the aircraft had been shot down.

NATO's U.S.-led mission in neighbouring Afghanistan said the Iranian report could refer to an unarmed U.S. spy drone that went missing there last week.

There is a possibility the incursion was intentional.

During the cold war, these incursions were used to gather Intel on radar sites, radio frequencies, response times, etc.

This may have been an expendable mission to probe and identify the strength of the Iranians air defense in the region.

Seems like they took the bait.

If they shot them down, they'd have the technology by now.

That sort of stuff might as well be Roswell to their level of technology.

I don't see any sort of advanced weaponry coming their way.

Also to be honest I perfectly support our unrestricted use of UAV's for renaissance. It's not like we're shooting at them. I don;t support them doing the same to us obviously. Hate me for that, whatevs.

I agree with you on what you said about hacking the drone being a level of technological proficiency not known by the US because the multiple levels of encryption and crypto keys and the nature of its timing would be one hell of a thing to overcome. I know u were being sarcastic about it being hacked and all but what a eff'ed up situation it would b if a nation could do that technically they could make it appear the US attacks name a country.

It wouldnt be the first time Iran has used propaganda. If they had shot down a classified UCAV like the RQ-170, which supposedly suffered minimal damage, they would be parading this thing around as if they had just won the superbowl. It didn't happen. Even the US has come out and said that this never happened.

Second of all China is backing Iran and has stated through MILATARY SPOKESMAN that they intend to start a 3rd world war if NATO or the US infers with Iran in Milatary Agression.

China is posturing, China will not allow Pakistan and/or Iran to be the tail that wags the dog.

Additionally, the Chinese are highly dependent on the West for economic prosperity. Chinas growth is predicated around two things. Fixed investment (ghost cities anyone?) and exports. Chinas consumerism makes up a paltry 30% of GDP (this is less than the year 2000). Whereas fixed investment equates to nearly 70% of GDP.

I can also assure you that China does not have the capability to take on the west. They wont even risk invading tiny tiawan...and I can assure you they do not have the finances and or capability to take on the West...especially the military powerhouse that is America.

Iran says it downed U.S. stealth drone; Pentagon acknowledges aircraft downing - WASHINGTON POST

There. Is that a good enough source for you people who keep criticizing this story? The US line is the typical "oh no it wasn't shot down because that would prove how vulnerable our expensive equipment really is so it actually downed itself for no apparent reason". Frankly I am really skeptical of anything out of American media these days, especially this article that constantly refers to the Sentinel model being used so heroically in hunting down Bin Laden in Pakistan (which is an obvious spin to deter the reader from realizing that this drone was flying over Iran).

EDIT: I don't know if the link will work for people or not, but hopefully it does.

Because there is no proof that it was an RQ-170 which would be pretty sensational or another type of drone which would make this story drop out of 'breaking' news into something more apt.

Im not saying either way, America stated they lost a drone and it may be this that Iran has, but they dont say which type of drone.

Iran are likely to push massive propaganda from this if its a RQ-170 and look pretty stupid (again) if its a cheap remote control machine.

Unless they are worried US may bomb the crap out of them to get it back, or are waiting to print the video once the drone is safely in the hands of China.

Either way - its how many hours later and noone is saying anything much either way, hence why the 24 hour ATS users post claim and counter claim to keep the discussion going whilst the 'truth' comes out.

You know the rules, pics or it never happened.

Some important piece of information that should not be overlooked.

Fars reported that the drone had been brought down through a combined effort by Iran's armed forces, air defence forces and its electronic warfare unit after the plane briefly violated the country's airspace at its eastern border.

The drone "was downed with slight damage. It is now under the control of our forces," Fars reported, quoting an unnamed military source.

The source warned that Iran's armed response would "not be limited to our country's borders" for the "blatant territorial violation".

In June, Brigadier General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of the Guards' aerospace unit, said Iran had shown Russian experts the US drones in its possession.

Iran military 'downs US drone'

A couple of days ago it was announced that Germany was beginning an investigation into accusations that the Iranians are planning to attack US facilities in Germany if the US attacks Iran.

Apparently its a scandal to plan for war, but not to commit acts of war by flying drones over other countries.

I want to see the wreckage.

But seriously: I would think these things would be getting shot down all the time.

If I were a country with some sort of anti-aircraft capability, I wouldn't let unidentified aircraft fly over my airspace.

Beyond that, I will leave the politics and the speculation about advanced weapons systems to those who think they know all about it.

I am ready for a new phase where these secrets are not eating up our time and attention and ruining our productivity and economies.

troll comment !

yeh it has been debunked many times over , the president of iran didnt call for jews to be wiped of the earth !
jews arent a race either ! they are a religious denomination

he asked for israel to be removed from the map , the nation not the people.

Iran should nto be provoked, and anyways if america attaked Iraq for supposedly having WMD's , then Iran would be crazy not to have WMD's maybe would stop them being invaded.

Where is the law that says they cant have them , North Korea has them , we dont invade them ?
