Something is wrong here and the facts do not quite add up.
If someone claims you owe them money, they must show contract to pursue in court.
Heck even with contract, some companies and gumments will not pursue as it would cost more to take it to court.
We are not getting the full story.

Right on!

No contract, no claim. no debt. Period.

Case law is extremely clear on this.

I cannot believe any court in the US would hold someone responsible for a debt they were not legally eligble to incur, with no signed contract, and zero evidence of a claim.

We are not getting the full story here.
You cannot just assign liability at will.

It's morally wrong, but it's legal in California..

'Wrong' and 'California'. Seems those two words go together a lot - and in many different aspects.

Having moved from L.A. 8 months ago to south of the Mason-Dixon, I have to agree. Things have been "wrong" in California for quite a while. There's nothing left of the city (SFV) I grew up in.

The state believes that if you tax and regulate businesses and individuals at an ever increasing rate, they'll reach a point where taxes will exceed their runaway spending. All they have done is chase businesses and taxpayers out of the state as their indebtedness increases. Duh....

At some point California will exhume bodies to extract the gold from their teeth before they reduce spending or make any cuts to the states unions.

"Wrong and California", well said.

I am glad I'm outta there!!!

So you're just going to assume " we're not getting the whole story" just like the other guy without actually looking into it? As I said this is very real and there are other examples of this happening. So instead of considering this to be untrue just because it doesn't fit your preferred way of thinking, how about you look into this like I have and realize what's going on, in your backyard of all places.

"This can't be happening! My government cares about me".

Wake up people!

Check out part C.

California Family Code Section 3409

(a) A party to a child custody proceeding, including a
modification proceeding, or a petitioner or respondent in a
proceeding to enforce or register a child custody determination, is
not subject to personal jurisdiction in this state for another
proceeding or purpose solely by reason of having participated, or of
having been physically present for the purpose of participating, in
the proceeding.

(b) A person who is subject to personal jurisdiction in this state
on a basis other than physical presence is not immune from service
of process in this state. A party present in this state who is
subject to the jurisdiction of another state is not immune from
service of process allowable under the laws of that state.

(c) The immunity granted by subdivision (a) does not extend to
civil litigation based on acts unrelated to the participation in a
proceeding under this part committed by an individual while present
in this state.

I'm not sure if this is what we're looking for since there are so many laws and I can't be sure if this applies to the situation we're discussing. I'm confident this is though since this came up while searching about this case.
