Good wholesome Israeli TV programming aimed at social equality

Israel has cancelled government-sponsored television advertisements calling on expatriates to return, after some American Jews complained that the message denigrated their lifestyles.

The spots, aired on Israeli channels that are often viewed by emigrants, featured dramatized scenes of Jewish assimilation in gentile settings. In one, an Israeli couple looks dismayed to hear their grandchild mention celebrating Christmas abroad.

"I don't think I have ever seen a demonstration of Israeli contempt for American Jews as obvious as these ads," wrote influential U.S. blogger Jeffrey Goldberg, in sentiments echoed by several American Jewish groups that lodged complaints.

The United States has the largest Jewish community outside Israel, and religious assimilation there is common. Israel looks to American Jews for support, but some in the community chafe at Israel's rightist tilt and strains in its ties with Washington.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered that the ads, produced by Israel's Immigration and Absorption Ministry, be yanked "immediately" upon hearing of the controversy they caused, his spokesman said on Saturday.

"The government of Israel is very attuned to the sensitivities of the American Jewish community," the spokesman, Mark Regev, said.

Certain groups in Israel will gladly accept American aid, but shudder at the fact of American influence on their Jewish heritage. Please remember these were government funded advertisements so there is a good chance American tax dollars helped pay for these.

I find this attitude contradicts the claims of Israel being a tolerant country. We all know about the rampant racism in Israel against Arabs but it goes much deeper than that. My father who is a white Canadian even worked there for a few months and I assure you that he is not a judgmental person and he cannot get over how rude people were to him once they found out he wasn't an Israeli Jew.

I know that all countries have problems with tolerance among different religions, race, and culture but I don't think most Americans are aware of this sentiment that exists in Israel. These commercials even hint that American Jews are inferior than Israeli Jews. Not only do they discriminate among non Jews but they also criticize other Jews who they don't consider "Israeli" or "Gentile".

Here is an Israeli TV commercial warning against marrying non Jews.

I hope the people of Israel overcome this Zionist attitude that they're being brainwashed with. Thankfully there are a lot of non Zionist Jews in Israel that keep their corrupt government under control for the most part. There are a lot of Jews in Israel who are totally against this Zionist garbage mentality and if it weren't for them things would probably be a lot worse in that region.

And here is a parody on the original commercial

I totally agree.

The Americans had every right to be offended especially considering how Israelis don't tolerate any criticism. If the tables were turned and America had similar commercials directed towards Israelis the screams of Anti Semitism would be heard all over the world.

In fact, last week or the week before certain groups made the city of New York take down a billboard because they claimed it to be Anti Semitic.

Israel would hate to have all that funding stopped. Israel freezes funds put away for the Palestinians for taking a peaceful diplomatic approach to regional politics and meanwhile the US keeps sending money to Israel even though they continue to build illegal settlements and keep the blockade.

Absolute hypocrites.

This shouldn't be surprising to anyone. The bank cartels are ruled and controlled by old Jewish families. They are the same people who bankrolled Hitler. These are the same people who came up with Eugenics. The list can go on and on. The we are the chosen people syndrome has been the root of so much death and destruction that has been unleashed on this planet. So many Christians have been brainwashed and allowed themselves to join in this deception while all the while they are used for their support financially and every other way. This was a definite mistake in the sense they once again have shown their true colors.

Complete agree with the ads.

Although, you got to admit the irony...A democratic society like Israel, making an issue of a little girls confusing Christmas time with Hanukkah???

If Israel is non-religious, it should stay consistent, and not advocate any one religion. But, if Israel is as it should be - a religious Torah society - then indeed, a little Jewish girl in America will undoubtedly, eventually, assimilate with the gentile population. She wont understand or appreciate the deeper idea of Hanukkah, and so gravitate towards a secularism; and secularist culture is meaningless, pointless, soulless garbage which makes enjoyment the be-all-end-all of their personal existence.

Therefore, i support the ads, mainly because i see in Israel the potential for a very good society. Unfortunately, the government there, secularist liberals, are stuck in a world of contradiction. Of nihilism. Of saying "It's good to be Jewish", but at the same time, being wed to Gentile woman, or having children with gentile wives...... The elite there, just like the Elite here in the west, are Gnostics, with no appreciation whatsoever of the differences between right and wrong.

Therefore, don't be surprised or confounded, by the amazingly ironical presence of nymphs, pan, and owl statues at the Republican getaway at Bohemian Grove, and their outer christian veneer. They do both. One is for the people - a lie - and the other is what they truly are: nihilists. Key word in nihilism is NIL...Nothing, nothingness, the void......They may be very spiritual people, but they hold no concrete moral values.

The parody gives a "side view" and maybe some "thinking out loud" and maybe even some "wishful" thinking. .... depends on who's looking and who's "thinking"

I wonder what kind of commercials were sponsoring each version

I wonder what somebody who saw this in NY and then went to Isarel the next day and saw the other version would be thinking?

The acting is superb to say the least

And her expression as she said "It's Christmas !" ...... but she was looking at her grandparents right?
She acted as if Santa Claus himself was on the screen. THAT may be what the producers wanted us people to "see" .... at least subliminally

I wonder if the little girl actress went through "special counseling" to make sure she actually does know the difference,
and to make sure she understands that this was only a show.

I also wonder if today's public schools teach the difference?

I went to public schools many years ago (big city in USA) ..... they DID teach the difference, as we had a high percentage of Jewish kids.

We all loved it because we got all the big holidays off !!

As I stated above, many public schools teach the difference.

At least they did when I went to school a long time ago.

Do we know if this is/was a common practice, or is it one sided in some areas?

I don't know about schools in Israel?

Kids in mixed families knew both and celebrated both where I come from.

I also wonder what the real intension of the whole campaign really was?

I am suspicious of the hidden messages.

She will learn everything she needs to know about her religion as long as her rabbi and parents do their jobs.
