Greeting ATS,

In an attempt to lighten the load on more serious posts I and most of you have made in the last few weeks, I invite you to take some time for yourself and let the fun come out for a little while.

It is amazing, the rate that our technology is growing and you can see the progress in even the very simply things. Maybe some of you do not know but in your internet browser within 5 seconds you could play a simple game that could be so entertaining you may find yourself losing an hour without noticing.

A picture says a thousand words so let me offer this short YouTube video of what I will agree are the best 10 flash games to play on the fly or sitting at your desk, even your laptop on the couch, whatever your poision, give it a quick watch and........ Enjoy.

Also, if your interested in browser games in general, this is a great browser based game, completely free that is full of depth, action and a good story line involving recognizable characters provided by the cartoon network that is family friendly and even fun to play with the kids!

Check it out HERE!

Believe me, I agree with you! Instead of denying yourself a little selfish pleasure though, turn off Fox News, CNN and more so the TV, get a little gaming on, that excites the hands and brains! Hand eye coordination will be useful in the future! =)

Paying attention to what? The news that obviously lies and is just in it to make a buck? Let's all continue to read doom and gloom stories which slowly apply pessimistic thinking and thusly weaken our immune system causing us to have disease. That sounds much better than enjoying a video game which relieves stress and reduces anxiety! Bravo, good sir!

I think his intention was to say that we are probably on the very brink of WWIII and we should probably be focused on current issues instead of video games. That said, he is probably right but I just can't spend all of my time worrying and I need to just take a little time out of the day to "zone out".

I hope most enjoy this as well as it is just for the most part, clearing your pallet and you should not feel guilty for spending a little time for yourself! No matter what the situation is, we all need a little simple pleasure and a tiny bit of shelter from the storm.

I understand where your coming from and believe me........ I hear what your saying and there is truth to it. We must however, not underestimate the power of free speech and you have to keep in mind, the thought of an idea must be planted before an idea is born and...... An idea must be born before it is acted upon. Everything starts from somewhere, action, starts with speech.

No offense to him, of course. I just found his post to be a little un-necessary. In all honesty, I can't really see how worrying would ever provide someone with benefit. You can be concerned with an issue, sure, but to worry only causes your physical and emotional health to decline. Even if I were to worry about a WWIII and the end of humanity, it would not change the out-come... and if one were to arise I would rather have enjoyed my life - even if that enjoyment comes from online video games - than have worried about something.

So, play, I say! Play to your hearts content! And thank you, OP, for posting this video.

Very well said and I agree, I have learned that worrying yourself to the point that stress has an impact on your life is just not healthy. If there is something I think I can change, I will do what I can, up to and including anything I can actually do. At the end of the day though, there are many things I can't change and sometimes, the best medicine for stress or depression is a good laugh, or smile, these simple games have brought me that more than once and in my estimation are worth there weight in gold.

Yes, they can be very beneficial in some aspects! I used to actually have a debilitating anxiety/panic disorder and my doctor actually recommended that I play video games to keep my all-too-dwelling mind focused on something rather than doom.

The Battle for Wesnoth is a turn-based tactical strategy game with a high fantasy theme.

Build up a great army, gradually turning raw recruits into hardened veterans. In later games, recall your toughest warriors and form a deadly host whom none can stand against! Choose units from a large pool of specialists, and hand-pick a force with the right strengths to fight well on different terrains against all manner of opposition.

The Battle for Wesnoth is an excellent, real-time strategy game. It is absolutely free, and you can download it from here:

I can relate, I have no idea where I would be without them either. I don't over play or let them take over my reality but I can tell you, about an hour of my day is consumed with a smile and laughter from simple things our tech savy minds keep churning out!

Excellent game! One of my favorites was made for the Sega Saturn, Iron Storm...... Also Dragon Warrior. Some of the magic of these console game are making there way back into easy to play browser or flash games that can be enjoyed by the masses without the need for a high end graphics card or other dedicated hardware.

Ingenuity and hardware are bringing joy mixed with thought provoking content and action to the masses and it is a great time for ingenuity and pioneering in the short term guilty pleasure department.

I for one need the games to keep my mind from worrying too much and to relieve the stress I built up in a workday.
Favorites were Myst, Riddle of the Sphinx.
Now I/m looking for a game of the same type. Who can give me the name of such a game?

Op I totally agree with you, these are very stressful times and we need to focus on fun things once in a while.
And don't forget the quality worry-free time with friends and family. It's so easy to become so depressed that people will start avoiding you.

As a person who has been playing Flash games on the Internet since 2003, there are five rules to follow if you want to make a successful, popular Flash game:

1. Make it as easy as possible. Proving that you're good at coding and including a bunch of complicated controls with turn the player off.
2. Make it as short as possible. If your game requires more than 5 minutes of attention, it's no good.
3. Make it as flashy as possible. Make sure there are lots of sounds, colors, flashing, and, most importantly of all, glow effects.
4. Make it as rewarding as possible. Flood the player with power-ups and points to make them feel special.
5. Make it as repetitive as possible. If all a player has to do is time his jumps with a space bar and follows the above four rules, it's an instant success.

Take this game, for example:

It doesn't matter that this game was probably made in about 3 hours of spare time. Most folk who play Flash games don't care that you spent 5 months making an intricate storyline, detailed graphics, and lasting replayability. Just take some sprites from the Internet, download some music from YouTube, and you're good to go!

While these aren't necessarily a "games" in the traditional sense, they are still flash programs that I thoroughly enjoy and love to show people at any given chance, so, I figure why not here? Of course, maybe you have to be a certain level of nerd to enjoy them. Any way, have fun with experimenting and letting you imagination flow!

Line Art - Basically a fractal creator using lines.

Falling Sand Game - Unleashing your chemist using sand as a representation of elements to create reactions.
chir.ag...

Doodle God - You create the elements of the Universe as we know it. Really creative game, and fun.

A little diversion sounds fun. Makes me think about someone attempting to hack into a computer and asking the computer to play a game. How about Global Thermonuclear War? computer: "would you like to play chess?"
Kid: no

Myself, I like playing some old games from time to time such as Axis and Allies. Made me wonder who I was playing with one time after I heard Bush say something about an Axis of evil countries on the news. That would be too strange if I was playing against someone like that. I did beat someone one night who was very good. That is always fun. It's like playing a long chess game and seeing if your strategy works in outplaying your opponent. I believe my opponent enjoyed the game as well since I got the impression he or she rarely lost. A game becomes boring if there is no challenge to it and you never lose.

For those that don't remember, there is a movie called Wargames where a kid wanted to hack into an online game company and he actually hacked into a War department computer that almost launched nukes. He thought he was just playing a game. I still never saw a nuke video game come out after the movie.

One fun laser disc game I played I was flying some type of fighter craft through a gorge shooting down occasional enemy ships and then went to an alien planet shooting down lots more. I broke my high score and all the others and then the laser disc game disappeared never to be seen again. It had photo realistic scenes. Anyone ever remember such a game? I played this video arcade game in the 1980's.

Whatever happened to 3d holographic arcade games? That is the game images appear real and above a screen where you can move your hand through the images. Carowinds had such an arcade game years ago and I haven't seen any since? I was hoping the technology would be widespread by now instead of it disappearing. Must have been too expensive.

Im all about those games...... That said, most of them suck, real bad. I would point to games we can all play, after all, it is not the the graphics that nail us to a game, it is the stratagey that owns our current opposition. Fantasy football anyone?
