I just did the survey and thought it asked very important questions.
If I may,add something that wasnt in it,,,well sorta.
Combining points and moderation.

I know even if adding more mods here, this place is still huge and hard at times to catch trolls and the like.
What if an option was put in to report posts to moderators.
Maybe have it as an option in the store after certain amount of points.
Simply put,,,,
2500 points adds in the 'report post to moderator' button on posts.
This way, trolling and bashing that go unnoticed can be taken care of by posters.Kinda like a neighborhood watch sorta thing.

As a CON to this, maybe this would be abused to a certain point by over sensitive users?

This is why I say you need points to get the option.

Overall a good survey though.
Thanks for the great board

One thing I was unable to express in the poll was the way new posts are handled when they rehash an older topic.

I *do* search quickly before I post something new, but for the most part I stick to replying to existing threads after seeing how rudely other threads are admonished for "OLD NEWS!!! Use the search before posting!!!".

Wouldn't it be just as easy, since the person posting the reply is already typing anyway, to be a touch more helpful and respond with "This topic was already covered, in (this thread), your post has been copied to the end of (this thread), please do carry on your conversation and ideas there!" Then lock the new thread from further posts. Other than that, this is a pretty interesting, and often entertaining, board.

well, index threads will become more common soon i feel. When more FSME's are added, it will be easier to see what has been discussed before

The survey was pretty good. The only problem I have is when none of the responses allowed seem to apply. I think most of the questions/suggestions should have a "N/A" or "Other" option, and if this option is selected then provide a dropdown multiline textbox to allow the entry of a brief explanation.

For example, the last question about what would make the board more user friendly (or something like that) provided a list of possible answers, but none of them suited me. So I said to leave the board as is. What I wanted to add is that I think the Search engine interface could use some improvement/changes in design, but I could not do this.

Thanks. I'm glad you do these surveys. It's a good idea.

I am very pleased that ATS take the members opinions in consideration when doing these surveys, it really shows the quality that this site is trying to keep.

I will suggest more of this type of surveys to keep the overall health of ATS.

ATS still seems to have that Draconian/ Freemason influence about it.

A terrestrial in heat.

I think the board is good enough, as it is. One has to remember that one is here by the good graces and the skill of just a few.

The implementation of a token economy, combined with levels of memberships, positive reinforcement, punishment and the ability to personalize one's posts with avatars and signatures and otherwise establish a strong personal, albeit, alter-identity (fantasy?) is a stong incentive to, not only contribute, but to keep the quality of the posts high and the rancor to a minimum.

Let us remember, also, that this is probably not a not-for-profit enterprise. Advertisements appear on this board and advertisers are interested in exposure, so that while the poster is earning points, someone is earning money based on the number of hits this site gets. Having the posts appear in the Google search engine (and others, I presume) only adds to the exposure. All the marxist socialists here should give that some thought.

I never dreamed that Grady Philpott might become a household name thanks to ATS and Google. Frightening isn't it?

Freemasons are draconian??? Perhaps you should start another thread in "secret societies" to address that issue, unless you have something specific to suggest in relation to the operation of ATS.

How much effort do you think it takes to keep all this up and running? - Software costs (not all of it is free) - Professional support services (making sure the server is solid) - Hosting costs (monthly cost of a maxed-out Dual-Xeon and 1,000 gigabyte/month) - Cost of buying and shipping four gold rings (ring contest) - Cost of supporting prizes for current and new games The advertising supports the above... it's impossible for a site this size to be a "cash cow", but very possible for it to be a money pit.

Hey! I'm a free enterprise believer. In Marxist ideology, I am a mere prolitarian, or I would call my self a capitalist. ATS gets my goodwill, whatever makes it run. I also like to poke fun at my socialist brethren.

Just finished the survey - ATS - thanks for asking for my opinion.

Having joined a few weeks ago, I'm impressed by the Moderators, and the long term members. Almost all are extremely helpful, knowledgable, and somewhat forgiving of new members. You should all give yourselves an applause for making this a great site. THANKS!

AND, if you see me making a mistake, don't hesitate to point it out!

If you make a mistake, the mods will not hesitate to deduct points.

Well, I'm not all that interested in the points. More interested in learning. My thought was, if I need to be looking elsewhere for info rather than posting a topic, I encourage constructive criticism and postive direction.

I suggested a UK politics board in the survey, but yes you're right, a European board would be better.

It would be good as well to find ways to attract more non-westerners to the board... the more perspectives the better I think.
