Love it, it looks really useful. there would be a problem though if in grassland and no trees? Then i guess you need a frame type setup.

how about a break down bow? light wieght, easy to travel with, requires no tools? i'm thinking of getting one for the long walk? any experience with one of these?

You can use hiking sticks to suspend the canopy and use it as a pup tent. These hammocks are very versatile and im actually looking at buying one soon!

To help with the cold back problem you can use emergency blankets, or a foam pad that usually goes underneath a sleeping bag. If you anchor the sides of the hammock with outrigger/side anchors it stabilizes the hammock to help prevent flipping out the side.

It definitely helps to have some padding on the back side though. Otherwise the insulating bag is worthless because the insulating material gets crushed.
