I know a good amount of people on here like preparing for things to happen.

I'd like to mention an often forgotten shelter, Jungle hammocks!

They weigh only 1.2 lbs, and pack up to the size of a shoe.
They keep you above the wet ground, and the rain/ snow off you while sleeping.
They are more comfortable then most beds and any cot/ pad.
They can be set up or taken down in 2 minutes.

Essentially they are a tent and a cot, without the poles, weight and size. They are a win win!

This is mine on my last camp outing.

That would be the only downfall. but all the terrain where I live is heavily wooded for many many many miles.

Great for a bug out bag.
I have one as well and it is more comfortable than your own bed I can promise you that.
Mine is made from ripstop nylon and very lightweight.

Two problems.

1. It is all but impossible to get in with a sleeping bag.
2. If you don't your ass (literally) will be freezing in cold weather no matter how much you cover up.

If you have found a technique which allows you to easily enter and exit while in a sleeping bag let me know.
Maybe I have been just setting mine up too high but if I go any lower my ass will be hitting the ground.

Ive never had any issues getting in and out of my bag.

I just unzip the bag to the toes and open it, get in the hammock, lat on the bag and zip the sleeping bag up.

its exponentially more difficult per every additional beer.
