My understanding, and this is from a Discovery channel documentary, is that black holes can become overwhelmed.
Sometimes they bite off more than they can chew. If too much matter collects at the edge of the event horizon, some of it can be super accelerated,
converted to energy and spit out from either pole. They didn't explain what the form of energy was. I suspect X-ray and Gamma rays.
IT was a very current documentary, on Netflix...8 parts, covering Galaxy formation, planet formation, Even current theories of the Birth of the
Universe. Obviously written for laymen like myself.
