Of course the U.S will not back down. You know how many regimes have been changed and governments paid off to implement the current missile shield? Too much.

wow things are heating up quick.

The Cold War never ended, it merely stumbled a little.

Did either side learn anything from the Cuban missile crisis?

Make a deal, and end the madness before something happens that can't be undone when started.

Whether justified or not, the Russians have very similar concerns over this shield as the Israelis have over Iran's nuclear program.

Whether true or not, they see this as an advantage for the USA, and a potential offensive "first strike" weapons system.

IF the Russians are pushed to the point where they feel the only option is "limited strikes" to remove this potential threat, how is what comes next going to play out?

Is this system worth the risks?

If so, then the US and Europe had better be prepared to defend it at all costs, because they should not expect inaction on this from Russia.

Deals were made end the Cuban missile crisis, deals can be made here, and potential military conflicts avoided.

Hopefully cooler heads on both sides will prevail.

I wonder how the US will act if Russia threatens to nuke them, after all thats what happened to other way around.

No doubt they will be massive hypocrites yet again and not do exactly what they wanted the Russians to do all those years ago.

The 1962 Cuban missile crisis was ultimately resolved. The trade off was the Rooskies would remove their missiles in Cuba if the US would remove theirs from Turkey. The idea that these two "most nuke status nations" would go at this again is going to give me another heart attack. Quit rattling the nuclear saber. Once in my life time was enough.

Both sides have "Boomers" anyway. A sub with a 100+ warheads from MIRV ICBM's could be parked any where off your favorite beach right now anyway. Whats with the OMG its a nuke missile silo in my backyard paranoia?

Maybe rather than threats from Russia over this system, they should consider making a deal with Mexico to install an equally elaborate and sophisticated missile defense shield in Mexico, near the U.S. border.

If the U.S. bitches about it, the Russians can claim that it is there to protect Mexico from their enemies and terrorist supporting regimes.

Then we could have a real Mexican stand off.

The U.S. is playing this one absolutely stupid. They're not taking Russia's concerns into consideration and it has the capability to escalate pretty quickly if the appropriate measures aren't taken. If the shield was really intended to deter an Iran/North Korea attack there wouldn't be any issues in signing the treaty that Russia is proposing (demanding). Without co-operation, it's a highly combustible situation. The world can see that Russia is trying to be sincere while addressing this genuine issue but power hungry America will stop at nothing for anything she deems necessary. Honestly, I can't blame the Ruskies for taking a stronger stance when their backyard is encircled by missiles. Remember, this "defensive" shield can be switched fairly quickly to an offensive one.

This issue should be forefront but unfortunately the media doesn't have an interest at taking an in-depth look at the recent "re-set" of American/Russia policies because it'd quickly remind us how the Cold War never really ended.

From a strategic point of view.

I think it would be in the best interest for both countries to stand down on this one and seriously re-evaluate the situation with adults in the room.
I think it would be in the best interests of the world for all major superpowers to go have a picnic together and stop being such(fill in your own blank on that one).

Thats the other bothersome thing about the Cuban missile crisis. JFK held back the military who wanted to go in, if need be, with "nuclear guns blazing". Generals thought that there was an acceptable risk, i.e., twenty million dead back then, and probably as well today.

Notice how its painted as Russia being threatening. "amid russian threat", whereas the true picture is that the US is the one at fault by placing missiles directly on the border with Russia.

And just think... all this war mongering crap (defense shields, Russian defense/offense preparations, Israel screaming for action, etc) has been set in place all because some little country known as Iran has been presumably building a couple of nuclear warheads, or so rumour has it ?

Uh huh...

Meanwhile:

- The US has removed troops from Afghan and repositioned them around Syria (and Iran)
- The aircraft carrier known as the USS George HW Bush has been planted in Syrian waters
- The US embassy in Syria has urged its citizens to depart the country a.s.a.p.
- The US refuses to sign an agreement with Russia ensuring non-usage of these defense shields against them
- Strongholds are calling for the NATO coalition in Libya to deploy into Syria
- NATO troops are training in Turkey for a Turkish-led NATO invasion of Syria
- The Arab League is threatening economic sanctions on Syria
- Opposition forces are seeking to implement a Syrian no-fly zone

I see now. You are right,all this Propaganda by the US and Israel against Iran is nothing more than to scare them into not doing anything when its Time for "Regime-Change" in Syria.

Iran can´t help Syria because they think Israel is going to attack in the near Future. Sending Troops and Military Equipment into Syria leaves them more vulnerable should they do that during that Time.

Seeing that Turkey may be the first to go into Syria may be a Sign that the US wants to see if Iran will do anything about it before joining in...

And how convenient is it that the US, UK, and Canada just a few days ago announced new sanctions against Iran ?

Oh, and by the way.... the Arab League has a deadline today with Syria to enter into immediate peace actions and if they don't comply, sanctions will be announced as well as a no-fly zone for Syria. We should be hearing about their decision within the next few hours today.

.... But TPTB wants everyone to think that Iran and Syria and Russia are all completely separate issues from one another ? Pfft.
