OK, I have to react.
This guy has his system hooked up to his generator, nice.
He tells us the neighbours are in the cold.

What did I miss?
I expect him to use 500 Watt max for his furnace and pump.

Why does he not give his neighbours the juice he has as leftover?

a home furnace for central air would use much more than 500 watts even so its not as easy as just running an extension cord.

be a man use a wood-stove women love wood ... HEAT.

3.3 Kw to run a heater is ridiculous.
I visited a newly build two story house with garage an attic last year.
The plaster was still drying and it was cold outside, just a few degrees above freezing with a chilling wind.
The doors inside the house were not mounted yet, everything was open.
It was warm inside the house with just one kilowatt electric heater.
Just 1000 watt electric heater and no I am not mistaking.

The house in this film is just a small one story bungalow, 3.3 KW should be enough to heat the house electrically.

My point is I think this person is a stupid selfish ass-hole, just me me me me me me me and another me.

Real surviving under harsh circumstances is a group effort, not a RAMBO thing.

i agree! its almost criminal... sad thing about this world people are selfish.

that's why i mention wood heat i love being self reliant and if the power goes out as it did last night because of wind, we still are toasty warm.

Hey, leave the guy alone. He's keeping his family warm.
As far as the neighbors go which one does help the one
on the right or the one on the left. Many familys get a room
at a hotel for a day or two, maybe they are gone. Can't run
a line across the street because of snowplows. Can' run a line
to far because it looses amps. Bet some of the others in the
area now have the same hookup and they meet in the street
and smile while drinking a beer.

We use natural gas for heating. When out power goes out in winter, and it often does, we fire up all four burners on the range, and heat the over to 350. When the over is hot, turn off the burners, open the door, and place a window fan on the open door. Been using this for many years to warm up on a cold day with no power.

thats a good idea we used to do that in my old house it was so small it worked well. and most Electric ovens can be run on a portable generator as long as it has a 220v hookup.
