Maybe so but i'm afraid the US are NO match for a united force of Russia and China. The US citizens on here who think they can dominate the whole world let alone Russia and China are living in DREAMLAND

The American military is a joke who have they fought in the last twenty years!!

Afghanistan come of it country that has no professional army to speak of prior to 2003---Iraq a great military accomplishment what a joke that is their entire military defected and never fought.

The last two Major wars American fought prior to that were in Vietnam and Korea and we all now what happened there!!

Americans, are clueless as to how to fight a real war against a real foe, and any war between Russia and the United States, is war that has the potential to end the lives of all of us .

No we don't know what all happened there, Vietnam or Korea, otherwise you wouldn't have said that.

The NVA never won a major battle and after a massive bombing campaign they signed a treaty with the South. The only reasons they were able to go into and defeat the South after we left was due to legislation passed by a Democratic congress preventing us from going back, the Watergate scandal which stopped Nixon from going back regardless of the legislation, and the oil crisis which kept the South from having fuel for their mechanized and armored units.

The thing that messed up operations in Korea was Truman, who relieved MacArthur of command. Had MacArthur remained and been allowed to use tactical nuclear weapons against the Chinese hordes, the war would have ended and the course of history would have been radically altered.

My comments are based on fact buddy open a history book might learn something new for yourself!! Who cares if Russia hasn't fought anyone either in last twenty years, that wasn't my point was it!

Just say a conflict broke out however between Russia and United States, how prepared is the states for such a war, i don't believe people in the states and the world are prepared to handle this kind of situation.

Prepared?

The Pentagon has been preparing for World War 3 for over a generation. We have stockpiles of stockpiles, prepositioned forces around the planet, and a logistics network unparalleled.

In addition, we have been in high optempo global operations for ten years. We have been moving tens of thousands of tons of materiel and tens of thousands of personnel all over the world on a very regular basis. The Russians simply don't have the capability or experience to do that.

I have and it still stands.

How well did the Russians/Soviets do in Afghanistan?
They beat up little tiny Georgia. Big wow!

There is plenty about both in those history books. Good old Mother Russia isn't looking all that great.

Well that IS the point.

On the contrary....

As many US detractors here at ATS love to blab on about. The US has been at war for the past 9 years. We have hundreds of thousands combat experienced vets. We have been using global logistics to move massive amounts of men and material out to two fronts. Iraq is over. Stick a fork in it. It's over. The Taliban cant make us leave Afghanistan.

Speaking of Iraq. Every piece of Russian equipment they had was all garbage.

How prepared is the US for war against Russia? Are you serious?

While you argue the US failed in Iraq and Afghanistan, the fact remains because of those 2 conflicts our military is at a higher state of readiness, more seasoned military personnel etc etc etc. While Russia has decent capabilities, the amount of time thats needed to spin up the Russian military toa state of readiness capable of challenging American forces is going to be significant.

Russia is still trying to modernize its military branches while at the same time trying to play catchup with the US reference generation IV and V aircraft.

For the time being Russia is behind the curve.

1. Attack on Da Nang - North Vietnamese Army (NVA) sappers infiltrated this airbase on July 1, 1965. They destroyed three large C-130 transport aircraft, three F-102 fighters, and damaged three more F-102s. The sappers escaped leaving behind one dead.

2. Iron Hand Air Strikes - American aircraft had suffered losses from North Vietnamese Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) systems. On August 13, 1965, the Navy aircraft carriers USS Coral Sea and USS Midway launched 76 low-level "Iron Hand" missions to seek out and destroy SAM sites. Five aircraft and three pilots were lost to enemy guns, and seven other planes were damaged, but no SAMs were discovered.

3. Battle for LZ Albany - The 1st battalion of the 7th Cavalry barely survived its now famous 1965 battle in the Ia Drang valley. After saving its 1st battalion, the exhausted 2nd battalion headed for LZ Albany for an aerial extraction. It was in a long column in open terrain when it ran into a concealed NVA battalion, which attacked and shot it to pieces during a bloody battle that claimed the lives of 155 Americans, with 124 wounded.

4. August 1967 Air Battle - This war produced two American "Ace" fighter pilots (i.e. more than five aerial kills), yet the North Vietnamese had 16, including Nguyen Van Coc , the top Ace of the war with nine kills. On Aug. 23, 1967, Coc led several MIG fighters to intercept a group of 40 American aircraft on a bombing mission. They shot down three American F-4D fighters and one F-105D fighter-bomber without losing a single MIG. Eight American aviators were killed or captured.

5. Battle for Hill 861 - In 1967, Bravo Company, 1st battalion, 9th Marines went to search for caves on Hill 861. After a skirmish, the company attacked up the hill without knowing that it had encountered a large enemy force. Most of Bravo was wiped out and the survivors were pinned down until rescued by Kilo company that night.

6. Kingfisher Battle near Con Thien - In 1967, "Operation Kingfisher" was launched to destroy NVA forces just south of the DMZ. On Sept. 21st, the 2nd battalion, 4th Marines began a "search and destroy" mission and quickly encountered the entrenched 90th NVA regiment. The Marines lacked tank support because recent rains limited road mobility, while the dense vegetation and close proximity of the enemy restricted air and artillery support. After a day-long battle, the Marines had suffered at least 16 dead and 118 wounded while trying to break out of the enemy's kill zone. The battalion withdrew at dusk, although flee may be a better term since 15 dead Marines were left behind. Details are sketchy, but the battalion didn't return to collect its dead until three weeks later. Veterans of the battle state they lost 34 KIA that day.

7. Ambush at Hoc Mon - In 1968, 92 American soldiers of C Company, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 25th Division began a search-and-destroy mission near Saigon. They were looking for a Viet Cong force that had been firing rockets into their Tan Son Nhut Air Base. As they rushed along a road without flank security to catch up with their battalion, they ran into an ambush. Within eight minutes, 49 American soldiers were dead or dying, and 29 were wounded.

8. Battle of Kham Duc - This large Special Forces camp was abandoned as it was overrun, despite reinforcement by an American rifle company. Hundreds of friendly civilians and militiamen were left behind as Americans escaped aboard helicopters and C-130s.

9. Battle of the Slopes - A company of American paratroopers was searching for the NVA in rough terrain when it was attacked by a large force. It suffered 76 KIA as it fled, with two platoons wiped out.

10. Battle of Dai Do - A Marine Corps infantry battalion was mauled and forced to retreat after a disorganized attempt to dislowww.g2mil.com... a large North Vietnamese force near the DMZ. The Marines suffered.

No one sane wants to see a war between Russia and the US..
It would surely escalate to bombing cities in both countries and I'm afraid the US
citizens have never seen death on their doorstep..
Neither have I but my family have told me stories about the London bombings in WWII.
I hope neither counties people have to go through that..

Tet offensive - NVA forces dropped the hit and run tactics for this and engaged the US / S. Vietnamese military diretly. The US / S.V militaries made quick work out of the North's forces, delivering a severe blow to their forces. The one and only time the NVA used a direct (standard) attack posture with open warfare. When they got their butts handed to them the NVA went back to the hit and run tactics.

Since you brought up vietnam should we reivew the Soveit "vietnam" in Afghanistan where they had their butts handed to them by the Muhajadeen.

So im not really sure what point you are trying to make.

US losses 54,000 +
North Vietnamese losses 2.7 Million* + or -

Yeah we won all Major Battles and still lost the war.

The Russians were in Afghanistan for 7.5 years and lost 18,500+
The US has been in Afghanistan for 8.5 years and have lost 1,845 + or -

Your point?

It's illegal to use it now unless the UN can agreed to use it. But as of now, it's illegal to use the nukes.

Every one of those is a battalion level or smaller engagement.

These were major engagements.

Operation Junction City, largest airborne operation since WW2, was a success. Over 2,000 VC/NVA KIA, with less than 300 RVN and US forces lost.

Battle of Khe Sanh resulted in at least 10,000 VC/NVA KIA.

Tet Offensive, largest offensive of the war and total failure by the NVA, resulted in over 100,000 VC/NVA KIA.

The UN is a joke. The second Iraq war was it not an illegal war and unsanctioned by the council of nations!!

The United States and Uk effectively ended all legitimacy for this organization because of their actions.!!

The UN doesn't decide what's legal or not illegal. They had to rule it first. But they didn't. And the 2nd Gulf War was the continuation of the first Gulf War of 1991 including the Saddam's violation of ceasefire agreements and surprise the UN didn't do any jack to enforce it's regulation against Saddam Hussein's regime. So no the war isn't illegal, the U.S. and UK has a VETO power so the war is legal. If it wasn't then that means all wars are illegal as well.
