I'm wondering, amongst the great majority of our troops and now this, who is protecting home base?

Seems the people are being left wide open and some of us do not support this war.

Again I have TONS of empathy for anyone living in the middle east and other nations in which we and other big countries have brought their fires.

We have it so good here compared to others and yet life is still a DUMP.

(that thumb is sarcastic. Imagine me with my thumb up, a huge smirk, and "screw" you look in my eyes)

Now I have been a long time lurker and reader of many a post on ATS but I had to join to reply to this .You sir seem to know quite a bit about our/my military, suggesting that while on the front lines we carry these magic get out the the suck card.As a 11bravo Infantry man in the US ARMY who has been (on the front lines) these cards do not exist or have been in any pocket of my guys .

If anything they were blue cards and it was a Navy basic training program they did away with back a few years ago..
www.snopes.com...

Ok I can step off my soapbox now.

Teaching - 0
Trolling - 1

+1. I've had military service as well, my family has, I've had friends, the list goes on. The card is a myth. I don't know why it persists. I always assumed it was a joke among old members of the military to the new members saying that the military is softer than it was before. I dunno.

I heard the same rumors when I went thru training other basic training camps had such cards, I was 11c infantry so all infantrymen train at Fort Benning, Ga and they didn't exist there. Although I can't confirm or deny the cards being on the other training locations I will say that even the level of hardcore training varied from training battalions or each company within the battalions itself. For example I was in Alpha Company and for the first 3 weeks we got a 30 second shower while under the "total control phase" for whatever reason Echo & Golf company's got the weekend off and didn't even have to wear their bdu's properly during the weekend. You had enough time to get some soap on genitals and arm pits and go to the sink to rinse the soap off your balls. I seen first hand very different training methods being used on the within the infantry training brigades. Honestly I'm deeply proud and although it was extremely tough at times I strongly believe the hardcore training prepared me in the best possible way to deal with the issues I'd later see in combat. Please note that I'm mainly talking about the mental aspects of the training for example all the yelling and screaming and doing things very fast past was a breeze for me. Mentally the hardest part was when I was hungry as hell and got to go into the defac for the first time and was being yelled at being told how to walk thru the line side stepping and perform facing movements when getting to the end of each line and moving to the other. Not to mention a guy in my platoon had the worst case of acne I've ever seen, it covered his whole body severely and that first visit into there he sat across diagonally from me one of my Drill Sargent's sit beside me and looked at him and said, "you are by far the ugliest mother #er I've ever seen in my life!" At the time that really tugged at my heart how that person must of felt knowing he surely must already have a low self esteem. And when I got into formation I could hear many both grown men (had a guy 40 yrs old in my platoon) and young 17 yr old kids sobbing. My platoon had whole different training strategy and I suspect that the army was researching which training methods worked the best for created the most ideal successful soldiers. When we got smoked, it was nothing like the soft bs you see on the youtube videos, we closed all windows and doors and turned on all 8 of the showers in the bay to full hot and got smoked for sometimes 4 hours at a time. Seriously we'd be in the push up position for sometimes 45 minutes at a time and had only done less than 15 or 20 push ups whatever it was that we doing during getting smoked it never ended until at least 5 people's muscles collapse to the point of not being able to function properly. We rarely ever got more than 4hrs of sleep, each platoon had 50 to 60 people and every hour you had 2 weapons guards, 2 fire watches and 4 suicide watchers. So you'd be awaken in the middle of the night to do one of those 1 hour shifts and we always had somebody who was on the suicide watch so it wasn't uncommon to have to do 3 different shifts in one night. As far as the specific training BRM, Ground Fight Techniques, Land Navigation, Night Infiltration and etc I'd say the training focus was the same across the board but the mental and physical training was much more hardcore than in anybody else got. I've got 2 cousins who enlisted 2-3 years after me who state that their infantry training wasn't anywhere near as hardcore as mine. You must understand that I joined the army and went thru 14 weeks of Infantry OSUT (one station unit training) and 2 weeks before the 14 weeks ended I got my deployment orders to the 25th Infantry division that was going to deploy to Iraq 2 weeks after I got there so in less than 20 weeks of being in the military I'd been in a combat zone kicking down doors and killing insurgents.

Europe didn't start the two world wars, Germany did. Read your history first. We asked for America,s help because as we are such a small country compared to the states, we were running out of materials, planes etc but they sat and said no way were they getting involved.
Yet, they wanted our help in Iraq and Afganistan? Great country.....not!
And as for your military bases, you just wanted to be closer so that you could bomb Japan etc so don't give me that garbage that Americans are brainwashed into thinking they won the wars because they didn't, it was a combined effort.

ok fine so be it. I can't argue with poor grammar such as yours.

I'd say it's a tie.

No one can be sure if what the US spends their black budgets on militarily speaking above top secret, but then again neither can you say the same thing about what Russia or China might be hiding under their secrecy.

I will conditionally agree to a tie. The condition being that I know where we were 20 years ago, and know that we have spent far more black research money since then and I know what was on slate for the next 5 - 10 years. If Russia or China were able to infiltrate and get hard data, then perhaps a tie.

Yesterday, from the Facebook page of USS George H.W. Bush-
Families & friends;

Your Sailors enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving meal today, and I want to give special thanks to our Supply Department, especially the Culinary Specialists and Food Service Attendants who put in countless hours of prep work to serve what your Sailors are telling me is the best meal they've ever had on this ship.

It's come to my attention there have been some questions about the... ship's schedule. It's common when a ship starts to head home that rumors will spread about possible changes to the schedule, and because you miss your Sailors so much, it's natural that you might be worried, especially with recent world events. I'll tell you the same thing I have said to the crew of this awesome ship. Nothing has changed. The news being reported about us today is done without the benefit of input from the Navy. If world events dictate any change to our schedule, we will get that information out through the appropriate channels as quickly as possible. But as of now, nothing in our schedule as changed, and we're excited to host our first Tiger Cruise soon. The only other event I have planned tonight is watching the Packers beat the Lions!

So enjoy your Thanksgiving. Your meal will probably be pretty good, but I don't know if it will be able to top the spread we had out here!

Warm regards,
CAPT Brian "Lex" Luther

I found out that it is okay to say where they are now (I guess they just don't want such things widely known much in advance). They'll be off the coast of France this afternoon (if they haven't come in already).
It was just a stop along their cruise in the med.

(and I was misinformed, the Capt is NOT a woman. )

Can you provide sources for these 2 statements please?

My point is...if members of ATS know about the US "Black Projects" then i'm quite sure the Russians and Chinese know FAR more than ATS does.

I probably shouldn't have said this much already. So, no, I can't source these statements. Also, to prevent any more slips, I will withdraw from posting on this thread.

Cheers all.

Well, I hope you are right, because our worthless leaders and banker/intl corporations have ruined us financially by becoming indebted to China while losing our jobs overseas, thus weakening our economy. The weaker our economy, the harder it will be to keep our military strong, especially with wimpish non-warrior types running about the WH spouting about how they are going to defang our military and "not weaponize space" and then giving Russia the advantage in Start talks, then expending all our resources in useless engagements like Libya, deposing other countries leaders to prop up the muslim brotherhood and al Qaida operatives.
Russia already has experience with overspending in military while running a socialist gambit economically, and the nitwits running our country are trying that here.

Not sure if this is correct but could this aircraft carrier parked out in the ocean serve as a safe haven for americans to be airlifted out of Syria? Maybe we are reading too much into this, after all its just sabre ratting, again.

Yes, especially since Americans were told to evacuate. Reminds me of a movie...somewhere in Asia.

That would be the National Guard I'm just guessing. And who knows, maybe a well-regulated militia or two.

its real.. A marine told me how troops were using it during the invasion of IRAQ... Believe what you want thou.. I did not record our conversation. Why would he make that up anyway? If its a myth as well, who would make that crap up?

The armed forces are not the way it was when your parents were in it, that is for sure....

I am still withdrawing, but I had to respond to this one.

Sir, that marine lied to you.

I read the Marines refused quite a lot of 'requests' in Iraq becuase TPTB (Rumsfeld) were asking/telling them to operate' in ways they were not designed to?

I can only hope you're right. More men baring arms should resist orders to kill wantonly. I really want that to be true.

then overthrow your govt.If you care so much about your loved ones,WHY DID YOU PEOPLE MURDER MY LOVED ONES IN SERBIA?

To prevent the continued genocide of the muslim population at the hands of radical wingnuts who believe they are racially / morally superior.

Funny how that works.

No more guilty than you are for genocide because your people opted to kill muslims in a whole sale slaughter.

Are you not responsible for that?

Yes it can and this has been suggested a few times now, ncluding once by me in this very thread. People are so determined to find doom and gloom that anything the US does in their minds is sinister. Forget the fact Syrai is essentially in a civil war with government forces defecting. Civilian air travel has already been severely restricted in and out of Syria, which emans the only way to evacuate americans who are stuck is by using military assets. In addition the helicopters the carriers have, they can also provide air cover for any extraction.

People seem to ignore that, even though we have seen it used time and again in conflicts around the world where the Us has evacuated citizens / consular officers as well as allied citizens.

Thanks for reporting this, OP. I may not agree with war and all that jazz but I respect your rational responses.

I can't say the same for the war cheerleading sheep on this site though. War is serious business and no laughing matter. I really don't want another war because we all very well could be killed if it involved nuclear weapons.

So please, keep the war cheerleading to a minimum folks. This isn't a G.I Joe cartoon. Thanks for the info though, OP.
