Selling the sale.

When I was young, advertising for Christmas followed an agreed upon tradition of waiting
at least until after Thanksgiving, before the slow and methodical beast of commercializing Jesus' birth, launched itself upon the pliant minds of American Christians.
But the beast rolled.

Soon the inexorable maw of merchandizing  began pushing  Santa on us BEFORE Thanksgiving, which of course forced the next two heads of the Hellhound Cerberus, Thanksgiving and Halloween, up into the arms of their baby brother Labor Day.

The true wonder of the beasts arsenal of control is that it can, if it wishes, make UP holidays according to it's whim
and of course adhering to the immutable laws of commerce.

In this time sluggish economies, the need to do so has brought the monster to the point of opening it's bowls to bring forth the newly created creature of consumption which is now celebrated in song and dance, and with lots of pretty colors,
and lots of pretty girls.

Black Friday is now a holiday with it's own commercials promoting the near ecstatic joy of shopping.

Our Holy Day of Shopping.
Black Friday.
It smudges the boundaries of night and day.
It invites all into a wonderland of fanciful frivolity.
Come and join in, have fun, have fun.

Dance and sing puppets
