families, they first cultivated their character. Wanting to

Wanting to set right their hearts, they first sought to be
sincere in their thoughts. Wanting to be sincere in their
thoughts, they first increased their knowledge. Increase
of knowledge was found in the examination of things.
Things being examined, knowledge became complete.
Their knowledge being complete, their thoughts were
sincere. Their thoughts being sincere, their hearts were
then made right. Their hearts being made right, their
character was cultivated. Their character being
cultivated, their families were regulated. Their families
being regulated, their states were rightly governed. Their
states being rightly governed, the whole kingdom was
made peaceful and happy.” Confucius 500 B.C.

2500 years later and we are still too dense to get it. Only wisdom can occupy knowledge. First govern yourself, then occupy the world with peace.

On the bathing-tub of King T'ang the following words were engraved: "If you would one day renovate yourself, do so from day to day. Yea, let there be daily renovation." ~Confucian Analects

shame that few in the west study the writings of confucious .. world would be much better off..

they started to teach them again in china a few years ago in schools as part of the efforts to reform the country..

This one quote was the impetus for writing my first book. The quote ended up fueling the second chapter and 156 pages more. LINK

Between this quote and Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs, education would be teaching our kids some wisdom to go along with the missing needs left behind at home. Our hands are tied. Knowledge is all they get. Even Confucius would be considered too close to religion to be taught as any kind of truth.

I agree. We first need to overcome ourselves. The problems in society will not go away until we recognize love for someone besides the individual. Love is defined by faith and trust in others. God is the primary other to be loved and trusted. Our world has embraced objectivism that can only take for the individual. Taking creates a debt that must be paid in suffering. Giving, on the other hand, creates a reward by suffering first. This is altruism. Objectivism takes the reward before suffering the work to earn what is desired. Ultimately, taking has resulted in a debt to our economy and a debt to the individual. Suffering will be the result. We reap what we sow. Once we reap the suffering, in turn, this suffering will once again swing the pendulum back to seeking and working for reward.

I never get tired of saying this. Smoking leads to cancer because taking reward always leads to suffering. Suffering work always leads to reward. Work for an education and reward follows. To heal the land, we simply suffer the work for others. Positive can only create positive and heal the negative. Love dispels hate. Hate can never dispel hate. The world needs this message. We either light the fire we burn by, or we are the light unto the path of others in the wilderness of life. It really is that simple.
