Yes, I hear that. It does get out of hand with the commercialism and the race to give the biggest best gifts. It also can be a time of grief, as when one remembers the loss of loved ones and cannot bring them back.

I applaud the importance of caring for the poor etc. 24/7/365.

My church is energetic in that the year around. I try to do a major chunk of my giving in quiet 1:1 ways.

Scripture is clear that God considers such efforts to be examples of pure undefiled religion. That's kind of hard to find these days.

If someone is special to me, I let them know it all year long,

ABSOLUTELY INDEED.

That's something I stress to my students. Relationships are more or less all we have of any great value. Include our relationship with God and they ARE ALL we have of any eternal value whatsoever.

And some of the happiest people I've ever lived around were very poor people in Asia. When one lives very nitty gritty, pretense, hollowness, phoney junk seem to be very scarce.

I like real.
I like loving real.
I like kindness.
I like real kindness from the heart.

However,

If the Season brings out more of those, cheers. Any reason for more of such is not necessarily all bad.
