WAR: Violence flares in northern Iraq

A suicide car bombing near a police training academy in Kirkuk has left 20 wounded and 17 people dead, In Mosul U.S forces launched an operation against insurgents in the city of Mosul leaving at least 11 people dead and 40 wounded.



It�s been less than a week where the fighting in Najaf has ended. And now the fighting seems to have moved towards Kirkuk, "a hotbed of anti-Iraq activity". Could this turn out to be another Vietnam?

Pleeaase . . . Iraqis (insurgents, rebels, enemy combatants, or nwhatever else you want to call them) are engaged in "anti-Iraq activity"?? What a crock of political doublespeak.

Trust me, the Kurds do not like being associated with Iraq, Turkey, Iran, or Syria, but want Kurdistan.

This is not a good development as the Peshmerga we hope to keep on our side.

For a second day in northern Iraq, rebels have been clashing with US troops. Iraqi forces also say they have captured 500 suspected militants further south,



Are the troops now concentrating on the northern sector of Iraq and trying to bring it under some control? Now that the stand off at the shrine has stopped maybe they should has the clerics to help them out.

Insurgents' actions already take on predictable pattern of creating public and private 'fronts.' Fallujha, Najaf, Sadr City, are all public fronts. Concerted effort is made to prevent oil from leaving country and that effort draws much less public reaction and that is private front.
