FCC Chief Wants To Ease TV Station Cross Ownership With Radio And Newspapers

www.deadline.com

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is prepared to junk federal rules that limit companies from owning TV and radio stations in the same market — and go half way in doing the same for TV stations and newspapers. He’s circulating a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that would wipe out the TV-newspaper restriction in the 20 largest markets, trade magazine Broadcasting and Cable reports citing “a person familiar with the document.”

In June of 2003, the FCC changed a 60 year old ruling that prevented a corporation to own more than eight stations. That was unfortunate!

Now when you walk into most stations, instead of live shows, you'll find demodulators that are downloading programming via satellite. In most cases, the only local programming is news and commercials.

With the new proposal, large media corporations owned by the few elite would control the media and would be in a powerful position to offer focused propaganda in any flavor.

Even in Public Radio, more stations are using the new satellite Content Depot system for broadcasting nearly 98% of their programming.

It's something to mull over.

Scary. I guess someone's getting worried that the internet is making a dent in their mind-control capabilities... time to step it up a notch

They better not let this fly. Are they not seeing that people are waking up to this stuff?
There is no good reason he would want to do this except for propaganda.. there are a million other ways he could invest money and expand without syncing up two forms of media news and further monopolizing and industry that in my opinion shouldn't have one person owning more than one news station/paper.

This is really serious All of the news changed from being somewhat informative to bought off agenda, roughly in the 80's when the news media became on big monopoly. So far radio is the only voice of some options.

We have to start forming community radio, online radio and local papers, our own media. Just like we need to group up and write lists of useful businesses and set up people in teams to create them, fund raise, pass the hat, and not set them up for one, but group people up, include some vulnerables who can't run it, and get some volunteers for them.. Take our power back, buy from each ohter, spread the wealth around with shares, and boycott them.

It's already like that, they're just trying to convince you that they care enough to make it quasi-legal and all. What a joke.

I think we pretty much already have this, this is just flaunting it now. By actually changing the laws and making it legal they are openly saying, we own you all. Welcome to The Corporate States of America brought to you by Rupert Murdoch et al.

Well, when there is dissent, there'd be less bodies at the landfill. Start researching Julius Genachowski and his wife Rachel Goslins. They have some very interesting connections.

Julius' "Open Internet" campaign that got him all the fame is no different than Obama playing the "Hope" record for the Nation. All the while, the whole administration has been paving the way to cement corporate America. Obama doesn't need a second term. The guy's already done more for his cronies than both the Bushes.

Providing the solution and keep the money local. Your comment is about the most practical thing I've read here at ATS.
