what job could you possibly hold that lets you not go to work and live in a tent in DC? Even I know that Wendy's would fire you outright for missing a shift, so... ?

Nothing will be achieved in helping bring about restoration of the Constitutional Republican government by any of these people sitting about, shouting at the top of their lungs like idiots.

We're not a Democracy, we are a Constitutional Republic. If they were interested in causing any potential change, they'd go after the private Federal Reserve & private I.R.S. If they don't know how to live outside in a tent, under cold conditions they are only showing how ignorant they are. I don't know how in the world so many young people seem to support these people.

They are only helping to further the socialist agenda. What's going on opens the possibility to cause real chaos and to further control we, the American people. We are not the government, the Constitution is and restoring the Constitutional Republican government is what we need to be doing. They are laughing at every single one of you involved in this time wasting.

I couldn't have said it better.

The hippies and losers in OWS targeting the banks are missing the point. The corruption exists within our government. They think they're smart; they're not. Entirely missed the problem's root: special interests.

Obama has raised nearly $1B for his reelection. A YEAR OUT! $1B. for him. Just for him to spend on advertising. How many people would that have put to work? Math question. Due tomorrow.

Yet, the hippies still support him. /amazing

Well, I am not a fan of OWS, but good for OP to give some tips for those who are taking part, its going to get very cold this winter - if you are going to camp out, Please take the time to become knowledgeable in camping out in winter.

You mess up you could die.

Perhaps this should be moved to another forum, people can give out information about surviving in the winter.

Taking your clothes off huh?

"I do not agree at all. I have mountain climbed for 40 years and never heard such a saying. The ONLY reason I know of to remove clothing is if you have worn it and it retains moisture wicking warmth away (cotton). I have climbed extensively and used my Dalaghari bag in as low a -54F. I see no reason why wearing fresh long underwear etc. in your bag would do anything other than make one more warm and comfortable. I also recommend not having skin contact with the bag to keep the bag clean...I have down bags and they are very expensive and do not like to be dry cleaned or even washed very often at all.

"It seems that the popular saying is incorrect. There is more heat loss if you bring the heat source (warm body) closer to the heat sink (cold air or ground). With the clothes off, the only barrier to the transfer of heat from the body to the outside is the sleeping bag wall. Addition of cloths can only increase this resistance and lead to lower heat loss.

Good info. Very nice and thoughtful. I'm glad to see someone care about other people rather than the usual distribes. S&F....

so...since you apparently can't keep a job at Wendy's , go join your local OWS and give them support. Much better to do that than to let ATSers know you can't even be on time to soak some fries in grease. Be a solution, not a problem.

The O's have nothing to do with the 99% of America. This is all about the 1%. The 1% who have no idea what it means to raise a family, struggle in a career. The 1% who have no experience with real life. They have lived 20% and believe they have 100% wisdom. The truth is most of America will go to work tomorrow just like it did the day before. We will pay our bills, feed our kids and do it all over again. Most of us will honor the commitment to our mortgage, while we worry about the resale value, but will pay it anyway.

When we see the "Owns" we see losers and kids who have no idea what it means to be responsible adults. Wanna be throwback Hippie types, who claim Democracy and speak Socialism. These are people who will never be CEO's or CFO's because they will spend their live sucking off the teat of the rest of us.. Before they preach anarchy, they should build something of their own life and have ownership in more than a 9 year old Honda, and an x-Box. Most of the "OWN's" who preach Anarchy know nothing, have nothing and likely never will. They are the 1%

This should be under ATS OWS Madness... Sorry about your friend (although according to TinfoilTP it was for the good of the species) but seriously so much attention to this? Ok...

Also... I'm 27, I have a full time job and most weeks I work 7 days a week. I pay ~$3k a semester for my wife to go to college. We don't receive ANY government assistance. I drive 3-4 hours per weekday. I take online classes. I support OWS. Just saying...

All the smart people who know what they should be protesting about should get off your computer and do something about it. If there was ever a group of people who would listen and more importantly do something about it it would be them.

The whole thing has been quite depressing actually. I thought Americans would behave...I don't know...not like this...to their own. We talk about all the injustices of countries most of us will never go to and ignore what's happening in our own. As long as I have a roof and a job there's no problem. Everything's great. Those people don't have jobs and houses only because they don't want or deserve to.

As a country we honestly "fall for it" every single time...we never learn. /small_violin

WOW. I guess I completley got the wrong energy when I clicked this link. Why didn't you mention the big elephant in the room: the majority of people in that area are either out right puppets, or can become, victims of mind control. Its so obvious. My only piece of advice to anyone living in that area these days is to get da fudge outta dodge. I feel bad but I know SO many people are completely oblivious. This is the CAPITAL of the nation that has the CIA, the biggest terrorist and group-think organization of them all. To think that the majority of things going on there are not contrived, is ridiculous. If there is NO surveillance and NO control in this IMPORTANT CAPITAL CITY, the events that occur in said city would certainly be much different. If you honestly think there's some protest attacking the elite and the big wigs and therefore the holders of power, and it's actually literally technically HAPPENING-you're out of your damn mind. That's not how it works.

I'm not an OWS supporter, but I do have alot of cold weather survival knowledge, esp being stationed in alaska for a few years, and OP is right, take your clothes off BEFORE getting in your sleeping bag, , what I usually do is lay my clothes under me in the bag so they stay warm with me, so when I get up in the AM, I get dressed. NEVER wear polypropylene underclothes in a sleeping bag, its basically a plastic and if it catches fire, it can MELT to your skin. Trust me, wear a pair of shorts and a t shirt, when you get dressed, you WILL feel much warmer.
I agree with the socks thing, ALWAYS have an extra pair or two, to change into, and make sure theyre CLEAN.
Dress in layers, and if possible, invest in gore-Tex outer clothing.
Make sure you stay CLEAN as well.
Like I said, I dont agree with the movement, but I agree with passing survival tips
