Until a revolution surrounds the workers, there will be no revolution in America, in Europe, anywhere! All I saw from this OWS was Socialist rhetoric from a bunch of people who could afford, either through rich families or the welfare state, to protest for weeks on end that had their way of thinking been implemented, it would've crushed us even further as an alternative to what we have at present. I said from the start that this would not do anything but drain resources and cause more hassle than help and that is all this has done.

What someone has already said is exactly right, they directed their anger away from Government, away from the Central Bank and basically tainted anyone who they percieved as the 1%!

There is a Pension strike coming up in the UK, Police Officers can't strike that is illegal, but many are calling to not pick up a firearm on that day in support for the strikes. What people on here fail to realise is that whether you're a cleaner, you're an office worker, you're a Police Officer or you're a soldier, we're all workers! This what people are failing to see. I work in the Police and I have worked in the front line, these men and women just want to earn a wage and then go home to their families and/or friends, that's it. They get hit with the same bills, the same anger towards Government policy as the rest of us! Sure there are some who get power mad, most just don't want chaos to take over endangering their lives and the lives of innocent people and all this OWS movement was promoting was chaos! We can win through democracy, through politics, but we need to unite as workers!

When people get it in to their heads that the workers and only the workers are the origins of any revolution, then we will have our revolution. Until then I don't care what happens, if it doesn't favour the workers, it will amount to an absolute waste of time!

Be careful what you ask for.

Perhaps the Kock Brother agree with the movement. That is their right, for even they can vote and influence politics. They must agree with my philosophies to the "T"; for, there has been no change in the movement from my perspective. Why do you perceive rich people as all being evil? Are we all not striving for wealth? AH, when our life's plans come to fruit, we suddenly become evil?

They will always be unable to "pull the handle" in the voting booth. That is still up to the voters.

IMO ATSers are mostly net-worm people who can not act in their real world. They just theorize , but they can't act. They are trapped in the net and all the virtual world.

I do not believe this is true. There are many intelligent and articulate people on ATS. The kind of folks that frequent ATS seldom have a problem interacting with the "real world". What you are talking about is a stereotype at best. It has been perpetuated because there are folks who have a vested interest in keeping us divided, and putting labels on one another.

The "net-worms" you're talking about exist. But I would be willing to bet they are a minority here.

While I can relate to your sentiment, No we have not failed. This is only the beginning. Once a Nation begins to awaken it will never return to its old state. Change is the only future we have.

Peace

I have issues with means as well. I think OWS would have/will be better served to head for Washington DC. The Mall would be a wonderful place to hold a peaceful demonstration. Loud, passionate, and peaceful. But they also need to unify their many voices. That's an undeniable must.

That is exactly what they should do.

Occupy the mall... Legally with thousands, change the mantra to "We Are the REAL 99%" ... have a campaign promoting the event, with clarity of goals and overall message, find a good leader that can deliver a passionate speech and other speakers to rally the crowds, give the corrupt in government and the lobbyists an event they cannot ignore... Put the Washington elite on notice, real change is coming... Unite the REAL 99% of Americans and we can all win!

It needs to be apolitical... We are not a political party, with no particular leanings, we are one, we are the REAL 99%

A truly united movement like this would have real success beyond anything the organizers behind the current disaster could have possibly imagined.

A movement that is splintered and divided on ideological lines is doomed to fail, one that speaks to and for all Americans can only succeed.

We can all agree, there needs to be changes, but we must all get on the same page.... Otherwise this is just another tea party that will ultimately fail, or a tea party for the other side... Either it will fail, or ultimately will be hijacked and lose support over time. "Divide and conquer"

We must ALL stand together!

Imagine the possibilities.

i would hardly call OWS a revolution.
It was really nothing more than a temper tantrum by a bunch of spoiled brats.
A revolution is more than a couple hundred people. A revolution involves thousands of people, a percentage of the population. OWS wasn't even .00001% of our population.

[color=mediumorchid]Notice that I said try to make it a reality.

They complained that no one was 'doing anything' to try to make a change... and then when people finally started to try to make it happen.. they still complained.

I find occupy refreshing. Even if I don't agree. Even if the message has been not completely clear. Even if I don't plan on joining them. They are out there doing instead of sitting behind their keyboard complaining. They should get some sort of credit for taking action. For fighting back. For trying make it a reality.

I don't know where you get your news from, but I am sure that it's more than a 'couple hundred people'...

The problem with the whole OWS movement is very simple. No clearly defined purpose. Instead, it was a hodge podge of nearly every social issue under the sun.

If you ask the average guy on the street, he'd say it was a protest against big banking. That's it.

To really effect a change, you need to not only point out the problem, but put forth a solution for fixing it, as your central message. Without that, you're just whining to the masses.

I don't see how that doesn't constitute an absolute failure for the government, that the people have to band together and fight their own just to try and fix the problems they have largely created for us, then come up with the solution.

Fire them all.

So "Occupy" was our only hope?

Get real.

Occupy was a construct, an idea created by Van Jones, adbusters, unions. . . .it was a "gimmick".

After 10 weeks, you're ready to give it an eulogy.
*sob*
*weep*

If a cause is great, if a cause is just, then opponents means nothing. That's what we Tea Party folks say. We've been labeled by progressives, by dems, by idiots for years!

Hasn't stopped us.

But OWS gets poo-poo'd and it's time to throw in the towel? If that's the case, then maybe myself and others who didn't throw in with this movement were right.

OWS was a simple distraction from the failed policies of the Obama Administration.

--------------
Now that it has failed - look at the polling data -, we can get back to fixing America.

The Tea Party has stepped forward with - true leadership - .

Financial mess in Washington D.C.? No problem.
Here is the Tea Party solution: It's very complicated and hard to understand.

Good luck..............................Freeze federal spending for 5 years! That's basically it!

Ok... stop the delusion.

Occupy was maybe a pawn.. but yet it demonstrated how strong the internet is to rally people together. I've personally witnessed Anonymous working with the organizers of OWS on twitter. Totally RANDOM people would say things like: "We should make a list of all the union banks" and all the sudden you have 12 people on it. Next day it's on the site of OWS. They were literally crowdsourcing organisation of the movement through the internet.

This kind of movement is not over, it's only beginning.

What ATS needs NOT to fail at is to defend the internet at all costs.

The ruling elites believe that China was a huge social success, they will want to emulate the model but in north america and Europe. Slowly taking away rights and freedom of speech and implanting a huge "wall" on the internet where everything you say is screened and where you can only access part of the information.

If they take THAT away, then you can be sure that movements like OWS, even if legitimate, won't happen again.

Until then, everything is possible.

Maybe it should have been an "end the Fed" movement along with banks and government corruption, but did you go to your local Occupy and tell them that? Did you take the chance to have your input?

Many of our folks DID try and go educate them on the federal reserve, but the message fell on deaf ears and were often met with hostility. We still have a REAL chance to change things and end corporate fascism, it's just too bad many of the OWS folks are too partisan to ever consider actually researching Ron Paul, and giving him a fair hearing. They believe the mainstream lies and misconceptions about him, and don't bother researching the federal reserve.

Well, you are correct in one regard, and one I agree with. At least they did something. It may have misguided or not coordinated with a clear message, but at least they were doing something. That's more than a lot of people on here can say.

Having said that, I have seen posters on here ask what we thought and what we would like to see from OWS, and when we respond all we hear is crickets. If you don't want to know, then don't ask. Way too many of us feel the protests need to target the corrupt politicians that "Occupy" DC. Until we change the guard there, everything else is pissing into the wind. Look at the other nations who did this. Libya, Egypt, they didn't protest banks or the wealthy, they went after the source...their government! Shouldn't that speak volumes to everyone?

You know why it failed. Because everyone believed Hollywood.

'Inside Job' stuck the blame on Wallstreet and Big banks.

The real culprits are the Federal Reserve. It should have been 'End the Fed' from the beginning.

That is why it failed. They are directing their efforts in the wrong direction.

Maybe the whole idea was to give us a false voice. Only to crush our hopes and make sure we understand we are bottom of the ladder.

This whole thread should have ended right here with this post. There was more focus in the first week of this mess than at any other point in this 2 month camp out. Once again and until I'm blue in the face, solutions were never an intended outcome of this event. Solutions represent resolution and an end to the party and are simply not part of the means to justify the end. This group needs attention and will get it any way possible. It's like trying to deal with a frustrated toddler who is unable to communicate his needs effectively. End Result, tantrum...

[color=dodgerblue]I can agree with that statement.

I frequently speak with my dear old Dad about current events and he said the same thing. Occupy is barking up the wrong tree. They need to Occupy the whitehouse if they truly want to make a difference.

And I think he was totally right.

You said it, thanks!

I believe so, says it was an NYPD estimate.

Over 30,000 People Rally in New York City (NYPD estimated 32,500), including organized contingents of workers, students, and other members of “the 99%”
