This happened about 10 minutes away from me. Washingtonians I live in Bellevue and I fly low on 1-90! This dear woman was pepper sprayed by police, which everyone probably is already aware of. I don't believe the SPD would have targeted her personally ( I love cops and HATE the SPD ) but she was sprayed, and I have a real problem with controlling a crowd of people with one crowd control technique. I don't doubt that there were violent elements within the crowd, but I believe caution needs to be exercised. I very much enjoy listening to this woman, we have so much knowledge to gain if we just pause and listen to our elders.

I am really pro pepper spray, I am fairly pro tazer and I am a staunch supporter of police. I have a degree in criminal justice though I have never utilized it. I was fortunate to have wonderful teachers, teachers that taught, actually preached that a civilians rights were paramount in any situation. I get that controlling a crowd forces officers into deploying chemical agents at times. I get that the scary pictures of this woman are probably just pics of her with milk or something to dilute the pepper spray.

At the same time, I know that my Grandmother is out there protesting, and it enrages me to think that anyone would ever shoot her with pepper spray. She is there because she wants me and her great great grandchildren (she already has a few) to have a better future and life. I don't think the cops meant to hurt this woman, but if I was there, and all internet tough guy BS aside I would have lost my crap.

Can I get an e-hug from someone? Story made me mad.

awesome i love this granny, where can i get one for myself? lol she makes a lot of sense and anti OWS people should just stop their retoric for a second and listen to what she has to say.

i have a similar educational background along with being an academy grad i agree with your stances on non-lethal methods. also the way to get pepper spray out of your eyes is water and baby shampoo. that is from experience.

i love pepper spray, it goes great on tacos! (actually does go well with Mexican food)

Have it used on you one good time and see if youre still pro for it. My wife has a cousin whose had it all used on him and is a cop and he doesn't like it and will not use it on other people. You have to be a sadist to use it on other people. Too many corrupt cops abuse it. He advocates that the OWS people bring their guns to show they arne't playing around.

Well, I"m pretty certain that pepper spray is a lot better than having a chunk of hickory smack upside your head.

So, lemme get this straight. Your wife's cousin, who's a cop, is advocating that OWS people bring guns to show they aren't "playing around"?

Yeah, I bet.

That will end badly for the OWS hippies. Badly, and with plenty of tears on their part.

I have been maced a number of times. I was tazed for the first time last week. Mace I can deal with pretty well. Getting zapped was the weirdest experience ever. Pepper spray/mace sucks but it's not as bad as everyone thinks. Getting tazed hurts, but the hurt isn't the scary part. It's the complete loss of movement (controlled movement) that's horrifying. When it stops, you wait a second and stand up and there is nothing different but DAMN remembering that pain, and it's not 'pain' is a mind F. I am trying to find the words to describe it but can't. Like when you're leg falls asleep after a long time, but whole body and you can still think but just can't move. Ugh.

It sucks getting maced. It sucks getting tazed. If I had to pick one I would pick getting maced. Pain lasts longer, but isn't anywhere as severe or rather freaky. I think I'm a tough guy, but I almost cried after getting shocked. Scared the hell out of me.

Oh man, forgot what I was replying to.
I'm still a HUGE supporter of both when used in accordance to a departments force continuum policies. Neither are 'lethal'. True, sometimes people die from a zap or pepper spray, but sometimes people die if a pretty girl shows her boobs. Compared to the old days of billy club first (until a suspect is knocked out) to ouchy oh noes pepper spray I think the cops are doing better.

And this coming from a porn star.

ETA-

Oops , I should probably ad something useful.
It's sad that it takes a woman this old, getting pepper sprayed to spread the right message about OWS. I'm glad she did it, that she is a part of it. Maybe now people will pay a little more attention to the 'other' side of the story.

This woman is a commie, AK-47 toting hippy who defecates on sidewalks and squats in public parks screaming something about the "99%". Her message is not clear, she's jazzed up to the eyeballs on the wacky-stuff, her 'views' are shared only by wipers of dogs bottoms and she deserves to be pepper-sprayed, tazed, beaten into submission and forced to publicly apologise to the nation for having dared poke her head out of her mother's belly.

I mean, why treat her any different than the OWS crowd as a whole is being treated.....right?

Hello, why do you assume all OWS protesters are hippies? Or are you just being a silly, antagonistic bugger?

Or are you genuinely clueless and ignorant?

Or maybe you're rich enough not to give a damn?

Which is it?

Without watching the video or reading the OP I have to say that I am incensed by this. We have never honored our seniors properly in the west but to pepper spray an old woman...

Seattle is where I live - just outside actually - and the Seattle Police need to be replaced! But I am not incensed merely at the Seattle Gestapo, I am equally incensed by all the nay sayers of the OWS movement. Everyone has become an armchair quarterback for this cause in the same way they have learned to do during Monday Night Football.

It just does not matter who you think is behind the movement, or whose hands you feel these folks are playing into. Trolls aside these people are working to help all of us and I for one cannot be an ungrateful fool about it. I fear that those who are our armchair fools on this matter are not old enough to remember Kent State. I lived through that period, although I was too young to participate, but even as an adolescent I was in tears when the four kids died, and even then, no one was held accountable.

Since the days of Kent State I have rightly never trusted the US government, and since that day they - the US Gov - has never given me one little reason to do so. If the naysayers of the of the OWS movement cannot/will not/do not see this then each one of them richly deserves what is being done to them.

I feel I must remind us of the Mark Twain quote;

In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot. - Notebook, 1904

I was not present when this poor woman was pepper sprayed, had I been I highly doubt I would be alive today, and I definitely wouldn't be walking around free. My upbringing by my USMC DI father would have dictated a vicious response by me at that moment, and my father would have been proud as he greeted me in the hereafter.

In closing I have to say; Patriots, take heart, we now have our Rosa Parks, and now it is most assuredly not over.

BTW the Seattle Newspaper headline yesterday told us that the Mayor of Seattle said he was sorry. To the mayor I would say "Yes we know! It happened on your watch!

E-hug man. My father became an Illinois State Trooper after the USMC. He preached the same to me. These are dark days for our country. God give my poor deceased father rest, because I know he has not had any for many years now.

S+F Now that I have read and watched.

Ah... nothing like the sting of pepper spray and a runny face to get you mad as hell.

I guess nobody else thinks dousing people with family size bottles full of pepper spray is a method of inciting a riot? Sure, hit the old lady, that will really get their blood pumping.

One last thought. I believe we have found a suitable running mate for Ron Paul in this dear woman. I noticed last night - I had a newspaper sitting out where customers can see it - that even folks who were not overly enthusiastic about OWS were very angry about this. This is a cathartic moment in our history. If not...

Clueless and ignorant? Nah, I save that for the OWS tribe.

They aren't all hippies. Some are criminals, professional protesters, homeless people looking for free food, clueless college students that love to rock a Che t-shirt, yet have no idea what an ass-hat he really was.....

Say again?

And just how am I "generating evil karma" for myself? If given the choice, what would you rather have:

1. Pepperspray in the eyes

2. A nice piece of seasoned hickory in the shape of a policeofficer's night stick smack upside your head

It's an easy question written in a 6th to 8th grade readling level. What's your answer?

Ashamed? Not in the least.

The officer lost 10 vacation days as punishment. He did not lose his job nor stand trial. This is The Blue Line. As evidenced by some ATS members, a part of our citizenry is willing to defend The Blue Line. Another part is willing to fight resistance and nonconformity as a "patriotic" duty. Another part is more than happy to order and lead them into battle. The supporters of The Blue Line are correct. We should not protest, as we are powerless against them. However, they are incorrect when they state we should conform and support their vicious game. We should drop out. We should take away their punching bags and let the infighting begin.

Someone on the radio was comparing her to Rosa Parks (which I found to be a bit much). She certainly has garnered a bit more support.
