That's where I looked and there was nothing but a small link about Poland, I'll keep trying to see I can come up with something.

It seems to be associated with German language, maybe of German decent. It's next to Poland.

I too found a connection to Poland.

I'm seeing it associated with Gypsies on some sites I've looked at. Romanian.

Yes, I think you are right, as the only places I'm finding it are related to names of Gypsy decent.

OK found this with the name "kartach" in it, and ran it through a translator.

klip malostranský kapely Prohrála v kartách na písničku z desky Jaký to bude za vodou...

Translated to English from Czech. clip malostransky band lost the song on the cards from the board What will the water

So the original language from that site is Czech. From this link: wn.com...

Mostly a Western European Surname:

Apparently the country with the highest population of that surname is Germany. In particular around Baden-Wurttemberg.

The next highest is in the UK around Douglas/Cumbria.

I would not be surprised if the person was German,Czech or even Polish considering all the assimilation that went on in that area back in the day.

The most common translation for Kartach is card. It also appears to be used as a first name as well. Hope that helps some.

If you need more or would like to retrace my steps let me know.
