Israel - using ak47?

hey there,

I have got into a little discussion with a guy in another forum on how come Israel doesnt use ak47 and in fact i could not find a solid dominant reason as to why they actually use the m16.

I'm sure it's primarily political (Isreal uses primarily US and European weapons), but the M16 certainly has it's advantages over the AK47 (or the newer small calibler AK74)

I also would say it's primarily a political thing since the US gives Israel so much money a year to spend on weapons.

The AK-74 would be better suited for Israels location and climate because of it's durability IMO, but the latest iteration of the m-16 is not a bad weapon at all.

The various Israeli do use the AK and the Galil, mainly the Sayeret Tzanhanim still use those weapons. And here's an article from the Sayeret site explaining why the majority of their forces prefer the CAR15 over the AK-47/Galil.
