Something took over me earlier today

It happened yesterday, I was at the veterinarian clinic to get my dog's shots up to date. Keep in my mind that my financial situation is not the best in the world. While I was there waiting, this man and his daughter came inside with their dog that seemed very sick. They had the $125 for the basic physical exam to see what was wrong with the dog, however the receptionist told them that any treatment after that would be at extra cost. The man told the receptionist that he had no money to cover the extra expenses after that. He was told to fill out an application for something called "Care Credit", it's a credit card but it can only be used for medical expenses. He didn't qualify.

He was begging to the receptionist in front of his 12 year old daughter, their dog was in very bad shape. It's shocking how some veterinarians claim they "love animals" but they ignore animals that are in desperate need of help, time and time again. I know that they have expenses to pay, and a staff that expects a paycheck every week but how can they sleep at night knowing they let an animal die, just because it's owners didn't have money?

I was sitting there, and I was listening to the whole thing, and I told myself that I needed to do something to help them. For me, money is not as important as saving a life whether it's a human or an animal. So as they were leaving and getting into their car, I followed them and called the man over, I talked to him and told him that I would talk to the receptionist and ask her I could use my credit card to pay for their expenses, I was able to and I told the man that he could pay me monthly or whenever he could. I really don't care if he doesn't pay me, I couldn't care less about the money or if he pays me back. What's rewarding for me is knowing that I helped someone, when they thought they had no one to turn to, their dog will be okay and the little girl is happy, knowing her dog will be okay.

It's sad how money decides whether or not you'll have a place to sleep, if you'll eat or if you'll live or die. What happened to compassion? Why have we decided to put Money above everything else? Have we really sunk so low that having money decides whether or not someone will live or die?

This is why I firmly believe there will be a civil war, once more people open their eye's and truly see what's going on. Our government is either aware or not aware that the population does out number those who trample the rights of their people and pass laws to benefit theirs.

I think that is a very good think you did there.. With more people like you in this world, there is some hope for humanity..

I love this about humans! When they show their human, compassionate, emphathy side it just gives me hope in the human race.

Of course, here I am talking about your compassion and selflessness, Muse7. Not the lack thereof of the vet and receptionist.

You are totally spot on - the unfortunate thing about some humans is that they have totally numbed their inner senses and cannot feel anymore. It is my strong view that this is the disease that runs deepest and is in fact the root of the human's sinister predicament in this world which offers so much potential for happyness and joy.

All animals and humans that live on this planet have a need to be treated with love, respect, compassion and trust.
When will this good vibe go viral?

sadly.. the reality is that money and material possessions have become the 'god' in the west , it's pursuit has caused the vast majority to lose their compassion and humanity...

Would have done the same as you did.. Money and material things are worthless and easily earned/replaced.
Life is the most valuable thing in the world and should be treasured.. Once lost a life cant be replaced.

Very good of you to do that, I love animals and hate to see them suffer in any way.

My question though, and this isn't a slight or dig on you in anyway, if we were to dispense with the whole monetary system, how would we get things done?

I too have often wondered, "Why can't this be more like Star Trek?" where there is no "money" as such?

I think the answer is, we simply are not at a mentality, worldwide, where we can rely on ourselves, or each other to do the "right thing". And that being to simply help each other out. So, the only way to get people to spend 8 hours a day building homes for others is to "reward them" with something - in this case, money so they can use it to buy what they want (food, shelter, medicine, fun things, etc)

If we abandoned money - I can't see how anything would get done. Sure, there'd be a load of people who truly WANT to help and make the non-money system work. But then you'd get just as many people taking advantage of the others' generousity and hard work. It would create an imbalance whereby one group will say, "Well, i'm not helping them if they don't help us" and I could only see it leading to a bartering system, which then would lead to a credit/money system again.

Unless things change, say technology, that means things like food, water, shelter and health are no longer rationed or daily worries, I can't see it happening. I wish it would tho.

Even though I commend your action, I would probably have done the same, because of my love for dogs, I can't agree with this attitude as a norm.

How can somebody have a 12 year old daughter, and not have a couple of hundred bucks to pay the vet's bills for her pet? What if his daughter needed an operation, or braces, or dental care?
What has this individual been doing with his life? This is, in my opinion, the reason our society has crumbled. No planing for the future, no personal responsibility for one's actions, a total hedonistic stance, the "certainty" that when things go wrong, somebody else, or the State will ultimately be compelled to clean up the mess that is their lives. What a total looser...oh, of course he had no money for the dog, but had a car, and apparently fuel to run it.

I would have done what you did, because of the dog, but I would then hate myself for having done it. It is because people have no responsibility, we have 30, and 40 year old irresponsible children running around, like headless chickens, in adults bodies and clothes...they have no notion of what it takes to become a being. Big daddy will always be around the corner...

More and more people seem to have forgotten that before their self-proclaimed rights, come their duties to those that depend on them, and to their own lost self-esteem.
And don't even get me started on unemployment, and hard times...this is why I currently love, and respect animals far above most "humans" I encounter...

Hi! None-but-you!

I have experienced a very similar desire to see a world without money but could not formulate its function, or understand how such a thing could be possible in our culture and society... Until I came across something very very interesting.

Not knowing what your convictions are about aliens and so on, I take the chance and share with you a page that I came across via ATS which shares exactly such a harmonious way of life on the planet Iarga. Whilst this is absolutely not based on socialism or comunism, it is based on a way of life without money. I absolutely loved it and it has stuck in my mind so strongly that I sent it to David Icke. Sadly, his assitant that replied to my email did not come back to me.

Stil, this (in the attached document) is what the world really needs. But as you say, how many of us have the desire to be really good loving humans.

This system does however, prevent the slack from taking advantage of the hardworking.
However, if you don't believe in alien life on other planets, you can read it as a fictional tale and still it will be fascinating. I realise it is long, but personally I found it very interesting and time spent very well.

most likely he's slaving away at a low paying job and trying to keep up with the usual expenses most people there have - rent/housing payment, utilities,car payment, insurance, food, clothes etc for his family. Its not cheap to raise a family these days. Just because someone doesnt have wads of cash to throw around doesnt make them a deadbeat.

Your compassion was always there and that it had an opportunity to be expressed and you did so is a good thing since it goes directly to your base temperment and consequently your attitude!

From what the man told me, he didn't have a very good paying job. they were living pay check to paycheck. I understand his situation because I've been there many times. He was not an irresponsible pet owner, sometimes things just catch you by surprise and this was one of those times. Their dog just all of a sudden began showing signs of sickness. They did have money saved, but it was not much.

I'm not going to go into his personal life, but I'm just wondering when the importance of money ends and the compassion and caring for other living things begins.

Yeah. Just stop it already. You're either deliberately acting arrogant and self-righteous or you're unaware how bad you sound. Nobody cares for this behaviour. You have no right, nor the proper information to state what this person has done with his life or what anybody has, just like nobody has the right to delve into your business.

Not everybody is well off, and situations vary so obviously by a great number. To step in and start acting like you know it all and know what people are "doing with their lives", you get zero points.

Good for you. Paying it forward is something I wish I could do more. The times in my life whereas I have had money I have always given. Whether it be to pay for men in service lunch, the woman in line who needs an extra dollar....something. I believe it is the right thing to do. No brother or sister of mine should have to go without is the way I look at it.

It is Admirable that you saw a fellow Human being in need, PLACE IN FRONT of YOU, and you responded in kindness.

These acts of random kindness should be performed by each of us when the need is place in our face.

Not to discount anything that you did, but some advice to you on how you react after performing a random act of kindness.

One should NEVER announce that they have performed an act of kindness, you have already received all the reward that you are due through our praise of your actions.

Would it not have been better to have said nothing and be “owed” your reward.

you are my hero of the day. A example. I really need this kind of stories, it gives me hope in this sometimes scary brutal world we are living in. Its good to hear that there still are normal people with a heart in their body. Maybe we cant save the world but If everybody will do its best to stay civilized and help animal or people with problems, the world will be a better place.
Acts like this reflects back to you in a good way, that's how the universe works.

It is nice to see that there is still some people in this world who have compassion for others. That was a good thing that you did OP and you will be rewarded and blessed for it. I wish i culd give you more but all i have to offer at this time is a star and a flag for this post. Thanks for showin me there still may be hope for humanity.

This is what comes of consumerism. People should stop chasing after luxuries at the cost of everything else.

Money is the root of all which is evil! We see it time and time again don't we? It is a sad fact the almighty dollar is the most important thing in this world. Money has more value than life in most circumstances.

Unfortunately unless the banking cartels who rule the modern world are toppled the sad truth will remain the same, money is the all important item human need to live.

I applaud the OP for the actions undertaken! Life is infinitely more valuable than any amount of money ever will be. Money can be printed, life needs to be created and nurtured.
