LINCOLN, Neb. -- TransCanada says it will move its planned oil pipeline out of the environmentally sensitive Sandhills area of Nebraska, and is confident the project will still win approval.

The company announced the decision Monday at a news conference at the Nebraska Capitol. TransCanada official Alex Pourbax says the company remains confident it will eventually get a pipeline approved, albeit with a different route.

That comes after the federal government's announcement last week that it would delay a decision on a federal permit for the project until it studies new potential routes that avoid the Sandhills areas of Nebraska and the Ogallala aquifer, a vast underground water supply. The proposed pipeline would carry crude oil from Canada to Texas Gulf Coast refineries

I knew Stephen Harper would give in while not harming Obama's campaign with the activists.

I wonder how much money Stephen Harper pockets from this on the side. His father was a big time accountant for Imperial Oil. Just one of the many coincidences on this fine earth.

I believe most of it goes to the USA. Are you aware of it going to China? It's possible I just haven't heard of us actually sending them oil. I have heard of Canada allowing the Chinese to invest billions into our oil programs which I don't think it's a good thing. We don't want the Chinese to end up owning Canada like they currently own the US.

Come hell or high water Harper is bound and determined to sell off all of our natural resources to the highest bidder for the cheapest cost.

Is there any particular reason why Canada/Alberta doesn't build its own refineries in order to utilize its own natural resources instead of selling them off to every Tom, Dick, and Harry ?

Oh that's right, I forgot... it all comes down to making those big bucks.

Import/Export, it makes the world go around if you haven't noticed. We are selling our oil, that is our biggest resource, I'd rather have the states buy it than china, and I think our government prefers that too, china would be a last resort and I'm glad Harper is looking for alternative routes to keep selling to the Americans.

Rather do business with a democratic society, and most countries would rather buy shall we say ethical oil.

We do not want or need a leaky pipeline to bis-sect America.

We do not want our water poisoned any more than it is.
They can build a bloody refinery -THERE- then transport it via trucks.

Screw the pipeline.

Yes that's right, import/export is what makes the world go around in this economic system of ours... Albeit a system that's failing and getting ready to implode on itself, that is.

Good ol' import/export. Get rid of manufacturing in your own country because you can just buy the stuff cheaper from someone else. And why bother with the high cost of capital investment for homeland production lines going all the way down to a finished product when you can just simply sell the extracted raw materials at a much better higher price to someone else too.

Yup, what a great system we have going.

This decision was made by Obama. If anyone suffers from it, it will be US workers. But all of a sudden Obama has discovered that the proposed pipeline will cross the Sandhills and part of the Ogallala aquifer in Nebraska, so he wants to delay a decision until after the 2012 election.

Harper is warning the US that delays could force Canada to sell the oil to China and/or Japan. He would prefer to sell to the US, but must also look out for Canadas best interests.

How you can determine that it will enrichen him personally is beyond me.

Count this as Obama and the Tree Huggers 1, American workers 0.
