It's the mindset.. those who abuse power.. are cowards.. by definition
The less blue they have around them the yellower they get.

That's not to say that the Cheneys of the world don't stick their thumb where it doesn't belong regardless of how much light exposes their bias/immoral conduct.

Good question.. probably because he's as bad as any other politician. And acts no differently.

Actually, this was democracy at its finest. Mob rule. Anyone who supports democracy has never taken a US history class.

Just because the ex-cop was wrong doesn't make the protester right.

Gringo, understood. I am very aware of our form of government, which is a democratic republic.

I was commenting on the way this ex cop misinterpreted the concept and then mistakenly tried to apply it to this situation.

I'm not saying the protester was right or wrong.. Instead of defending anyone let me ask you a question;

Would you prefer I call you a mean name or punch you in the face?

Patiently awaiting your answer.

again.
being a douchebag is not a crime.
the protestor did nothing illegal wich in fact makes him right.

I don't know where that "again" was directed, I never said that being a douche bag is a crime. If it was I imagine i would have been locked up long ago.

The bottom line is that if you go to any event and act disruptively youy're going to get thrown out. I'm just surprised it was a an off-duty cop as opposed to on-duty.

A courthouse is a public place, but I can't disrupt the proceedings to voice a grievance. There is a time and a place. If he wants to protest then great, that's fine, more power to him. But a demonstration is just a phase of protest, the one where you try to garner public support. If you alienate potential supporters in the phase designed to get the same support, then you are hurting your movement more than you could possibly help.

This is the problem, why are we supporting either of these people's actions? Both these people are idiots. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

You may understand, but others might not.

And me, personally, I'd rather have anyone try to punch me. Mean names can be hurtful.

My point is both people are idiots, maybe my adjectives have been reserved for the protester, but the cop is an idiot as well.

You really need to do your homework and find out what OWS is promoting. This sure sounds like socialism to me!

Demand one: Restoration of the living wage.
Demand two: Institute a universal single payer healthcare system
Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.
Demand four: Free college education.

Sounds a lot like the socialism Obama and the liberals have called for.

I understand and completely agree.

But, it does happen, and part of me thinks that it is so they can suspend specific rights during it.

(Happens very frequently in Canada).

You label movements, your the reason many out there are progressives, because you repeated the media's lies when THE original protesters, and the majority of those out there now, were mainly protesting the government bailing out banks. And the very very original ones were from Anonymous and many of them just want revolution. Your a sheep that fell into the media's trap and is now acting as their agent. It's like the matrix... Watch the damn live feeds in Oakland homie, and then spew that crap. People there are now MOSTLY protesting the police state.

Those demands don't represent everyone, there are no leaders, this is a resistance movement. Especially the free college and health care one, all of THE MANY Ron Paul supporters out there are not there for that. Those people want to end the Federal Reserve.

Oh, and if we stopped the corruption and brought back the Constitutional Republic to our country and stopped the crimes going on on wallstreet....

Guess what?!?!

The playing field would be level and health care and college would be affordable.

Stop playing the socialism propaganda card.

Again, watch the Oakland live feeds next time, realize your wrong, and join us.

Oh, and read the comments on your link to demands if you don't believe many of us DO NOT support those socialist ideas. Good try though, I see where you were going with that one...

[/acutesarcasm]

STOP making OWS sound like a left wing thing, that's what media told you. Now they are just protesting for their constitutional right to protest. OWS started as THE SAME THING as the original Tea Party which, BEFORE it was taken over by the republican party, was a protest against government bank bail outs. TURN OFF YOUR TV.

Wake up, even the Tea Partiers are the 99%...

You missed my point... maybe I didn't make it clearly.

During the summer 2009 Town Hall meetings, the Tea Baggers did nothing but disrupt those meetings. Had someone acted towards them as this bonehead cop behaved, the Tea Baggers would have cried like little babies about their First Amendment rights being infringed.

This cop is a disgrace to the Marines and the Police force. And all true freedom loving Americans, who will support the rights even of those with whom they disagree. Precious little of that these days.

The cop appeared to be backing up a fellow officer and a living wage is what you can make to live on. The minimum wage needs to go if you want jobs to return to America. The competition for employees will raise the standard of living

Well, it looks to me like a good citizen taking out the trash. Nothing more or less. Good Job Mr. Former NYPD. Someone had to do it. I love the look on the guys face as he's laying on the ground. It's like he's in total shock that anyone would actually do this to him. LOL.....

Protesting is our right as Americans. It should be protected and tolerated. However, his right to protest comes to a screeching halt where MY right to carry out my day's activities begins. That certainly includes attending a function offered by a local political representative. What, this guy thought he could just get up and berate the man while basically stomping all over everyone else? Oooops.... Not everyone is willing to tolerate these stunts. Glad to see it.

I think the bozo was rude!

So lets say you want to say something and every time you do someone interrupts. Your rights for freedom of speech is being trampled on.

I once hear of this thing called "civil society", I guess bozo didn't.

That's one thing I hated about the far left, its okay for them to voice their opinion, if it differs your wrong or evil or some such drivel.

I did like that quote from Hilary Clinton, basically we all have the right to speak. Of course when we voice our opinion that the U.S. Constitution is being trampled on or pulling out the truth - we are just right wing extremists or tea baggers.

Exactly. That's why it's a Right and not a luxury. It does make sense that a cop/marine would have this view since they are, basically, an employee of the Government. And we all know how the Government feels about Constitutional Rights.

You may be able to say that about him being a former cop, but a marine?

Every Time and Every Place? Hello?

None of you deserve liberty because you support it being trampled.

Let's pat this authoritarian cop on the back for a job well done! That's one less freedom to worry about! Bravo!

'I don't like what you say so you will be forcibly removed physically.'
Right.

And yes, you do have a right to be a jerk. But you don't have a right to touch people and pull them around because you disagree with them.

Yelling "fire!" in a theater is technically free speech, but we all know what the chaos, and the damage to life and property could be, so sense dictates that it not be done. That's why the laws were added to cover it.

Free speech is indeed free, but that doesn't mean there aren't consequences to what you say. This hippie just learned that lesson.

I have always said that as an American you have the right to speak your mind. Whether this is vocally outside a Funeral or burning a flag in a parade. On the other side of the fence, I have the right to go to jail for banging you upside your head when I disagree with you burning the flag or disrespect.

No matter what side of the fence your on, you a are still responsible for your actions.

Couldn't agree with you more.

I know when I was a child I would exercise my freedom of speech many many times in class.
But guess what? I would be removed from class.
And guess what else? It was the correct thing to do.

I think many of our "rights" and common sense clash very hard in many situations. Sometimes Right is not "Rights".

I think that is why our laws are so flawed. Because not everything is black and white, there are many shades of grey that need to be recognized.
