Hoping the off duty cop is charged with assault.

You have no right to put your hands on me or anyone else for the words that come out of my mouth. Those who believe that this off duty cop did something heroic should move to Syria - I just hope you agree with the administration there. I love how you self-professed righties are all about personal liberty until someone says something you don't agree with. Such hypocrisy.

Sure, two wrongs don't make a right. If the protester feels wronged he should file charges.

Getting removed doesn't validate his behavior.

The nerve of that OWS guy... I'm sure glad nothing like this has ever been done by anybody like a Tea Bagger at a Congressional-summer-break-town-hall meeting or something.

the cop must be an ignorant thug. he should be dragged out for having his opinion and offending others right????

hope he gets the law handed to him. though he probably wont since he will get special treatment since he is part of the thug-corporatists.

Which is worse? Some crazy guy screaming?

Or living in a world where no one can scream because the authoritarians will silence you by force through battery?

Voicing opinion in public = Legal.
Battery to remove protester = Illegal.

If three people can disrupt an event that three hundred people want to participate in, who is trampling on whose rights? Your freedoms end where mine begin.

here is a little dirt on the cop.
pot kettle guy obviously...
just read on.

Seeing as Mr. Hiltunen isn’t part of any organization currently, his actions were that of a private citizen assaulting another private citizen.

and..

“All I was doing was trying to stop this historic occasion from being disrupt-ed. There is a time and place to exercise your First Amendment rights,’’ said Hiltunen, of Bergen Beach, Brooklyn, who was identified by people at the ceremony as an ex-Marine.

“This was not the time or the venue,” Hiltunen added.

Mr. Hiltunen should know a lot about when it’s okay to exercise one’s first amendment right’s…like say, during a rally calling for Anthony Weiner‘s dismissal in front of the former congressman’s office.

our little hypocrite...

If the megaphone wasn’t enough to sway you on how much Mr. Hiltunen believes in the power of free speech, just read some of his quotes from Weinergate, where he loudly called for the congressman’s dismissal and got into altercations with pro-Weiner liberals. He also lead a rally cry during the protest, screaming “Weiner, you’re fired!” into a bullhorn.

so much for your hero cop

I can’t find any posts conveying outrage when this douche bag was removed from Obama’s speech last year. Can anyone provide those links??

Boy….the crowd seemed to love it when the guy was dragged out by the cops! Why didn’t Obama tell the cops to let that man express his 1st amendment rights?? How come nobody in the crowd supported that guy??

“I’m a citizen who believes in democracy. I did not ask this man if he was part of any movement,” the former cop said.

This is hilarious! Democracy is not physical violence against a person for stating their opinion.

And yeah, if I want to talk while 300 people are trying to listen to someone or something else, I have that right. If I want to try and let 300 people know that the man they are supporting has done something hidden from the public eye, I have that right.

How long is it going to take for all common people to realize that supporting this behavior only deteriorates YOUR RIGHTS. You might not always agree with the thugs... Are you going to stick to your guns on this matter when they don't like what you're trying to say?

I think it's wrong any time someone is silenced for their opinions.

I personally believe that Obama and Turner, or almost any other (D) or (R) are really on the same side. Partisan politics is a farce - they're all heading down the same exact path.

STOP making OWS sound like a left wing thing, that's what media told you. Now they are just protesting for their constitutional right to protest. OWS started as THE SAME THING as the original Tea Party which, BEFORE it was taken over by the republican party, was a protest against government bank bail outs. TURN OFF YOUR TV.

Wake up, even the Tea Partiers are the 99%...

Actually, this was democracy at its finest. Mob rule. Anyone who supports democracy has never taken a US history class.

Just because the ex-cop was wrong doesn't make the protester right.

That was Buzz Aldrin and watching that old man deck that idiot is always awesome.

Per this incident, personal responsibility is also at play. When you act like a jackass, there will be consequences. And you made the conscious decision to act like a jackass.

And "heckling" a public official at a public ceremony (one paid for by taxpayers who probably actually took the time to vote) and "protected political speech" are not the same thing. Is this the stretch that some dingbats are taking? When the US was at the peak of its constitutional freedom (if you were white/male), this sort of behavior would still not have been tolerated. In fact, there would likely have been turns taken giving the idiot a nice drubbing.

Good for the marine.

Opinions aside, something about this picture makes me laugh.... Is that Cop/security guard running away?

Maybe, it's just a bad picture. I don't know. I just thought it was funny.

But as for what I think.... Well, I think the guy disrupting came across as an inconsiderate jerk, however. I do not like that he got thrown out like that.

That retired cop saying time and a place makes me want to respond:

Time? 1776. Place? The United States Of America.

I think they both did wrong. I am guessing that the fact that he dragged him out is an indication that security was not going to do it and if so, then really he had no real right to do it himself and in the land of sue happy people, he might want to be careful, should this protestor decide to sue for assault.

Just my thoughts. Take them or leave them

Not entirely accurate.

There are instances that preclude free speech inside the US.

Does anybody know which Queen's school this happened at and if it is on private property?

Marine vet and former NYPD officier Kevin Hiltunen escorted a screaming hippie from the swearing-in ceremony of Rep. Bob Turner (R-NY) who replaced penis-tweeting liar Anthony Weiner in the US House.

LOL.

some parts of the US media are hilarious.

i mean...

screaming hippie?

penis-tweeting liar?

Should we turn off our TV's and get our propaganda directly from you?

There are no socialist in the Tea Party. There are no socialist conservatives. And there are no socialist Republicans. There are also no people who believe in wealth redistribution within those 3 groups.

There sure are a lot of OWS supporters promoting socialism. And you can find socialists throughout the Democratic Party (Obama, Pelosi, Frank, Dodd, Reid, etc). So please don’t say it’s not predominately a left-wing movement because it most certainly is.

A private swearing-in ceremony for a public office should make any healthy American vomit.

I'm not trying to define any facts for this situation, but the whole idea of a private ceremony for any governmental reason is non-sense.
Public service = loss of business privacy. Private citizenship = protected governorship of the government.

Listen to Ron Paul, he is very conservative and supports OWS. Nuff said. Oh, also watch the live feeds of OWS and NOT the TV reports. Last night in Oakland they were reciting the CONSTITUTION over bullhorns. Socialist?
