Here's and idea!! Why not send the bill to Mexico? Mexico will have more of its citizens using it than any of the other 49 US states.

or they can always add extra language and pork barrel funding to a new foreign aid bill.

then call the new rail system "Hamtrak"

a line from L.A. to Tijuana might actually make money.

That was harsh.

I expect they will charge a nice little fee to get on it. I would pay it, yep. It cheers me up to think about it, frankly.

@Xuenchen: "Hamtrak"

Of course people "Don't see an issue with it" you know someone wise once said "why punish 49 states so that only 1 will get any benefit from it".

Oh now what was his name sounded a lot like Ron Paul.

You know, I get that you don't like liberals, you are absolutely drooling with disdain for what you think you know about California, but not living in our state, you have little right to judge. You are being blatently rude, and I am sick and tired of the rest of the nation passing judgement so freely. Every state has it's issues, our state just happens to be way bigger, bordering Mexico, so we have truly giant issues in comparison to all but maybe 2 other states.

And just so you know, there are several other high speed rails in the planning, or did you just want to pick on California?
www.cnn.com...

I have to say, I am not a fan of this rail system being planned here in California. I can tell you that it will Directly affect me. It's proposed path will be going through my child's high school, so it's a big deal around here.
The thing is, there is more to this than meets the eye. Most of you long timers here have heard of Agenda 21, right?
en.wikipedia.org...

In my opinion these rail systems are just another step in instituting Agenda 21. No one in California voted for this rail system. It just suddenly was here and being planned. So ask yourself, why? I think it's way above a state thing, I think it is all about Agenda 21.

Check out the map of the proposed urban areas, and wildlife areas. You will notice the plan is to stack us all up in tight areas along travel corridors.

So what state are you in, NEO? Just wondering how perfect your state is, and if our federal govt aids your state in any way.

It's all relative really. We are a big state and need more than a smaller state, but we have a larger population that pays more in than a smaller state.

And we are part of the USA. Thought we were all one united family, sad that you feel so strongly against one of your own.

Cool idea and I wish we had it a few decades ago, I believe many other countries did.
Too bad I will never ride it as I'm sure there would be the pat down groping session, and I am married and not looking for a good time anymore.
As you might have noticed I never mention The Peoples Republik of Kalifornia in any other way comrade.
Funny thing is this is one of the backward states where I cannot own an AK47.

The fact that Kommiefornia is the Liberals failed Utopia speaks volumes.
The fact that Kommiefornia has one of the largest populations of illegals speaks volumes.
The fact that Kommiefornia is bankrupt speaks volumes.
The fact that Kommiefornia has some of the most asinine and restrictive Gun Laws speaks volumes.

But, more power to Kommiefornia. March on, by all means keep going.
When the state economy finally hits rock bottom, do not look for Federal bailout, as that is money from the other 49 states.

Kommie? Seriously? Open your mind a little, you sound like you've been to too many backwoods meetings. Do you see California promoting Communism? Why don't you do a wiki check of what communism is, ok? Here I'll do it for you.

Communism is a political way of thinking and an idea of how society should work and be organized. Communism is a kind of socialism that says that there should not be social classes or states. Communism says that the people of any and every place in the world should all own the tools, factories, and farms that are used to produce goods and food. This social process is known as common ownership. In a communist society, there is no private property.

simple.wikipedia.org...

Don't think Cali is promoting a classless society or an end to private property ownership. We may have a large union base here, but I don't think that makes us Communist.

We may like to be progressive in helping our environment, but that does not make us Communists.

We may not like giving 37 million people the right to carry concealed weapons, but we're not stupid.

We may have a lot of illegal aliens, but we are on the border of a messed up country, and our govt doesn't seem to want to stop the influx. Border patrol is run by the FEDS. In fact, I believe our own govt was gun running to mexico and those guns were ending up being used against americans.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Been going on for a while, like before Obama. www.abovetopsecret.com...

All I am reading here is a bunch of arm-chair rebels, that don't live in California, and don't know what we are about.

And yes Indiana gets govt aid, NEO, just like every other state, no doubt. Maybe not on the same scale, as a big railway project, but is your state asking for one? And even though I don't personally believe in this project, it would be money spent on upgrading our aging infrastructure, and not a giant handout to private corporations.

"It's been a very popular talking point to be critical of Washington and be critical of federal spending, but I don't think people know what an integral role that federal funding plays in our state budget and in terms of our local budgets," said Sen. John Broden, D-South Bend, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee

www.courierpress.com...

Let's try to remember we are all part of the United States. California is a real place, with real people. We have real families, real jobs, real problems,we pay REAL TAXES, and stand for the rights and freedom of real people, believe it or not.

Sounds like a reasonable, productive use of taxpayer dollars. I don't see the issue here. I've never been to Cali, but from what I've seen on TV, traffic there is a pain in the ass. It's about time we start investing in some new technology that isn't used to spy on the people, or feed the military-industrial complex.

Same here.. I just did the drive, it's a 6 hour pain in the sphincter.

The train isn't the issue.. as usual it's the 2 party loser politicians thats are the problem. Greasing palms, incompetence and banker gangster capitalism rules the day in these parts. A reflection of the national abortion known as dumb republicans & dumber democrats that fellow morons keep electing into office.

I hope they build it and it sucks billions and billions down the crap hole.. whatever puts a financial bullet in the head of this dying beast quickest.

The best I can hope for at this point... this train will serve us well after the inevitable collapse.

Build baby build!!.. lol

I stand by what I said. All the "Programs" in the State, the restrictive laws and the mentality of people there back up my statement.

They just want the cash $$$.

There will never be a high speed choo choo train.

Step 1: Tie up the actual construction with numerous environmental impact studies that
take years and years to complete.

Step 2: Throw all the cash $$$ into a - slush fund - so the liberals can spend it on other things.
-------- pensions ---------

Step 3: When the cash is gone, just demand more!

It's all a scam.

Everyone knows that the ultra-socialist policies of the left (particularly in CA) are very close to (if not already) communism. When the state provides everything you need, dictates how you live your life, determines how morality is defined, mandates what you buy, controls your education, etc.....I don't know what you call it.......but I call that communism. Cali is a shining example!

There are lots of people who believe that most of California is already a communist — or at the very least a socialist state. But, as yet, it isn't "official." However, Los Angeles and San Francisco already propose and vote for virtually every leftist concept currently known to humans, as they vigorously work toward developing new ones; or adding onto existing radical Marxist notions.

Both cities have firmly announced that they have no intention of following current federal immigration laws and are considered "safe haven cities" for illegal aliens. Even banners and billboards have proudly proclaimed the state's new name: "Mexifornia." It's difficult, if not impossible, to think of any state that more completely embraces communist principles than does California. By comparison, even New York seems conservative!

If the unemployment rate jumps to over 20%, then we might see a revolution back to
Free Market Capitalism.

It's really too bad. If we are going to soar out of this recession then it would be a good idea
if California leads the way.

I think its rude we here in California belong to the socialist USSA nazi war machine.. voted in by redneck neo clown poop kickers drunk on patriotism 100s of miles from reality. If this was a nation, few people wouldn't want to live in a peaceful state with awesome weather, lots of shipping & resources galore.

We'd already have high speed rail.. 20 years ago, if not for the federal govt sucking off our money and resources.

The thing about California is that after the collapse, being of different mindset than most 1930s Germans to our east, this state has the best chance of rejecting post collapse foreign rule & subjugation from DC mafioso. All the mid westerners can have the new improved federal govt 2.0, people here would abolish the 2 partys and live in stoney peace.

Those who disapprove are welcome to never come here... actually, please don't come here. We're all crazy weird-os who smoke pot, laugh and eat kittens when we get the munchies.. its a horrible awful nutty place.. way too scary for nationalism tainted war addicted cultists who worship the man.

California's collapse hmm guess it would have to do with the highest Foreigner population from Mexico.

Why would they? California isn't the greatest state in the union in fact it is far from it.
