I remember when this papal address was made and yes many of the faithful were greatly disappointed that this was not more of an apology. Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict, was more responsible than anyone else in the Church for how these abuse allegations were handled. In the U.S. pedophile priest were reassigned to other parishes endangering more youths. I knew of his involvement. It was discussed in our diocesan newspaper long before he became Pope.

Prior to being elected pope in April of 2005, then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger had served since 1981 as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, a role that placed him in charge of the Vatican’s dealings with all priests accused of sexual abuse. I think it is common sense if celibacy is not volunteer but an obligation to be in a society or belong in it then by force of nature, the sexual imperative and the seeking for pleasure that all have will need to be expressed in whatever ways are available (under that subject moral standards and specific desires).

This is also why we have psychopaths and rapists, due to environmental and social pressures and genetics, the same could be stated about every other deviation from the normal heterosexual relation, note however that the definition of child is very volatile in Europe there are countries that permit sex very early with minors, in other parts of the world it was pretty common until very recently to marry at the age of 12.

My view on the subject is that if parents love their children and do their job in regards to education (especially about sex) most of this problems could be mitigated.

A recent study has found that all psychopaths have a particular brain structure, but that does not mean that all that have the brain structure become psychopaths.

The problem is society and how it is structured and how it pressures its members to comply and commit, most of us really don't like how things are and see that due to demographics the window to do a viable non conflictual change has probably passed. The atomic family is a thing of the pass, relationships are ephemeral, there is no more moral and respect for the other all that matters is making the next dollar and have more than the next fellow.

Yes, further inquiry needed. After reading several source materials, I conclude that there is a purposeful ambiguity going on within the Vatican, to obscure their actual positions. I guess that's what happens when worldly politics is factored in while deciding doctrine.

It was common in America for a girl to marry at 12 not long ago.

In the 1990's in the State of New Mexico you could sleep with a 13 year old if you had one of the parents consent to date her. I know somebody who was arrested for doing such because the dad objected.....but since mommy consented to them dating....he got out of jail.

He's now a big politician in one part of America.

If America had more babies in the 1970's, we wouldn't have the economic problem we have now. The whole "womens rights" push created short term money for America but as all those girls wanted to be independent and not have kids......we're now economically screwed. All the birth control pills they popped, most of the medication passed thru them and went into our rivers/water as it passed thru the sewage system. And that medication for birth control has decimated human evolution.

The bigger sin was Women's Rights if you look at the bigger picture.

I can help. If the RCC isn't the true faith, why is it prophesied, the anti-Christ

A 13 year old, and ANY minor does not have the maturity to know what he/she is doing when it comes to sex, and in the case of EVERY adult who has RAPED a minor, the adult has brainwashed the minor into submission...

The American Psychological Association did not denounce the positions advanced within the that journal. In fact, just recently, the A.P.A. published a new, major study (2) written by one of those same Journal of Homosexuality writers.

The 7 Noahide Laws have been part of Christianity since the start of the Church, even if not called that name. Paul outlines the same principles as basic rules for Gentile converts after the Council of Jerusalem determines Gentiles are not subject to the Torah or circumcision as they are not Jews or Children of Abraham.
