Pine Sap is also a highly valuable "Fire starter" in a survival situation.

When I was a young sprout in GA, on long stays in the woods, my pops would collect pine tar, boil and strain it, drop a few whole potatos with skin on into the hot pine tar, and cook them.
He would then take them out, wrap them in newspaper, slice them in half, and scoop out the middle, leaving the skin stuck to the paper wrap.
Tar Taters!
Takes this old man back to better times.
