I've been in the same situation you were in brother only I was the medic. A young poor inexperienced medic who went from AIT to the front line with just a few months in between and nothing but a few weeks practice on dummies and readying books.

I would not wish that upon anyone. The first time I had to treat a casualty he died. Incompetent? Nah. Just a young frightened kid who had no idea what things would be like.

Same situation too, sucking chest wound. I did the best I could but it just wasnt enough. This kid has no idea and hopefully he wont ever but alas, he just might very very soon if things go the way they look like they are, a la WW3.

I think the stupidity should be toned down. OWS as a whole does not seek conflict. What individual occupiers say are their own opinions and they are entitled to them. Some are socialist, some are communist, some are anarchist, some are conservative..........together they make the "99% percentile" versus the "1%" who run the planet.

It is impossible for everyone to agree with each other, so there will be disputes. The message is to end the corruption of government and big business colluding with each other. Protesting at washington dc versus protesting at wall street is immatterial. The tea party prefers the first option and OWS prefers the second option,

OWS will eventually get infiltrated and its message dilluted. Still it will be potent from a leftist perspective much like the tea party is potent from a right perspective. I do not hate right wingers but I do dislike both extremes; right and left. We need a centrist government!

Socialism is centrism. I could not care less what karl marx wanted, eventhough he was honest enough to admit communism(extreme left) was his goal and that socialism was the stepping stone to that goal. Today we have capitalism in a predominately corporatist enviroment. Globally operating corporations with little regard for local business and local peoples. Profit comes first. This is what should be changed. Corporations should not have first amendment rights via bribery.

And for all those making fun of the 60s era hippies just remember they got us out of vietnam and other conflicts. Not every hippie is a drug addict and lazy playboy that rellies on mom and pop to survive. Conversely a lot of these folks become important people in society with a good educational background. They deserve respect, not contempt!

IMO the left has more to offer than the right as can be seen by protesting the IMF, Wall Street, against nukes, pro-enviroment, against WTO/G-20 meetings/bilderberger/CFR/Bohemian Groove..etc. There are some people on the right that I do respect but not many. Alex Jones is pretty good/honest! The right to individual liberties and the right to bear arms are good concepts but fall short of addressing 21st century issues. They are more 18th century oriented.

An Update: just walked by that area again and there is a large procession of protestors walking through the streets near the parks, at the moment. Events seem to be converging, it's cold and raining and not sure anyone seems to be in a good mood, down there. One block away there are Bike-cops amassing (East) and another block away the Riot-cops are gathering (West) and the rest seem to be surrounding the parks. The majority of tents and whatnot seem to be gone, a lot of people cleared the park this afternoon.

DING DING! We have a winner!

They DO know this to be true, in spite of all the rhetoric they spew about how we are "all the 99%". They realize, at some deep level, that 99% of that 99% will squash the remaining 1% of that 99% like a bug if they actually come out and say what they are really all about.

In order to obfuscate that, they carry on about how "no one can speak for the movement", "those guys are just a splinter group of malcontents that we can't bear to throw out", etc, etc, and all that other hogwash.

They KNOW, at some level, that as soon as a concrete mission statement comes forth, depending on what that says they will either be erased, OR large numbers of those "malcontents" will say "WTF? I didn't sign on for THAT!" and evaporate like mists in the dawn, effectively eliminating the "movement", since so far those types seem to comprise the bulk of the mobs - but they don't speak for the movement, mind you. They only make up a massive portion of the membership of it, but apparently have no voice in it.

So, we arrive at the stalemate we are at. They won't go away, and won't say why they stay.

And yeah, I do believe that if they came clean and came right out and clearly and unequivocally said what they are after, we would end them as a movement forthwith.

I saw a post earlier claiming that the "people". presumably OWS, had a right to go armed, and the police had no right to intervene.

I had to think about that for just a split second. He may be on to something there. If the sliver of the population in OWS has the right to go armed and employ those arms against other citizens, then by logical extension, so do the rest of the citizens. Perhaps when this starts getting out of hand, the police should go on an extended coffee break, and let the armed citizens on both sides of this divide settle it.

I think that might be the best solution, and it's certainly some Change I Can Believe In!
