As I said in my previous reply unfortunately an excuse isn't needed for them to as you say 'throw their weight around'. I've seen it myself.

I wouldn't like to try to measure which is worse the police of the EDL. I'm quite sure there are some police that are sympathetic to the EDL - believing that violence against those you disagree with is acceptable.

What actual evidence is there that the EDL supporters intended to 'beat up' the Occupy London protesters?

The people I have spoken to who were present had not heard anything about any plans to confront them and certainly wouldn't have got involved in any such action.
EDL are pretty much a one trick pony and any such action would be a massive shift in policy.
I have no doubt that some of the more extreme elements who have infiltrated the EDL might have considered it but that's as far as it would have got.

And what about police actions during The Miners Strike, The Battle Of The Beanfield, Poll Tax riots etc just to name a few.

That's just the tip of the iceberg.

There have been numerous instances of wrongful arrests, police corruption, framing innocent people, deaths in custody, downright incompetence, racism etc.

If anything MSM try to appear supportive of The Police and their methods.

Reports say that threats against Occupy London had been made via facebook and that a statement from EDL told them to leave 'their church' alone.

I dare say that most of those in the pub didn't know about this and some probably barely know anything about OL in the first place. On the other hand it wouldn't take a whole lot to rally a group after a number of drinks, going on about socialist / atheists with the support of gays / minorities desecrating their chruch for them to head on down there to confront them.

But I accept that they were doing nothing wrong in the pub at the time the police went in.The police claim that it is perfectly legal because a breach of the peace was imminent. In the end the police are hardly more sympathetic towards one group above another. Their interest was in preventing anything from unfolding.

The edl admin warned them on there facebook page. here is the exact post which cause all this. they have a point though, the cathedral was a mess, imagine if it was outside a mosque. i can hear the crys of racism already.

We are appealing directly to the anarchtits, socialtits, lefttits, anti capitaltits and any other social misfit camped outside St Paul`s Cathedral, while we have observed your peaceful right to protest while taking the piss out of our religon, we feel that you have crossed the line by "spraying baby killers" on the RBL Poppy Stall and even stopping this sundays rememberence service there. We ask you to respect the wishes of the people and disperse by 12am Friday morning. Our government may be too weak to deal with you, but these are our streets and We Are The People

Yes, they may have a point - but they are not the law and by acting as such they prove themselves as little better than MAC etc.

EDL has a specific agenda - to highlight and prevent both the Islamification of this country and the open door immigration policy of successive governments which has contributed to it.
It was initially intended to be strictly apolitical on all other issues thus being impartial and free from political or religious bias and dogma.

EDL has allowed itself to become involved in something it swore it would never do so and as such has aligned itself with other right-wing parties which are tarred with the racist brush.

The leaders of EDL have allowed it to become infiltrated with right-wing extremists, have allowed wannabe never has beens to tag along and live out their outdated fantasies, has turned legitimate protest into drunken sing-alongs and now allowed itself to be turned into something like an even crapper version of BNP.

What could have been something good and unifying has become a farce and alienated from the large section of British society who sympathised and agreed with EDL's initial aims and objectives.
All to feed the 'reputations' and ego's of those dickheads who are running EDL and who seem to think they are the moral enforcers and redeemers of British values and culture etc.
