Man Fatally Shot at 'Occupy Burlington' Protest

www.foxnews.com

BURLINGTON, Vt. – A 35-year-old man died Thursday from a gunshot wound sustained at the "Occupy Burlington" encampment, but the circumstances surrounding the shooting were unclear, the Burlington Free Press reported.

The man was transported to a nearby hospital in "grave" condition at around 2:20pm local time but he later died of his wounds. A gun was recovered in City Hall Park, where "Occupy Burlington" protesters have been camped since Oct. 28, the newspaper said.

Several protesters and a camp organizer said they believe the man shot himself, according to the Free Press and W

Not much detail provided in the article, but with all the interest, both pro and con, about these OWS encampments, I thought I'd add it to the pile.

I won't speculate here about whether it was, indeed, self inflicted or not, but so far, it looks like it.

Desperation? Realisation?

I'm sure you'll give us your opinion.

not anymore ugly than the nonsense that goes on every single day everywhere else....just because OWS has a name doesn't make it any worse than the rest of the world

if you get loads up people together for an extended period of time bad things are bound to happen

Could this be the Agent Provocateur instance many have predicted?

An excuse for the police to use even more violence?

Blame it on a protester...justify lethal measures to protect the public.

Blame it on the police...protesters get violent which justifies lethal measures once again from the police.

hmmm...

I think that's the plan. To turn it into something ugly and repulsive to the American people.

People are shot every minute of every day all across the United States and the rest of the world. I't is not shocking nor is it of any consequence somebody happened to be shot at an occupy movement somewhere.

There are a billion bars across the states, there is bound to be a fist fight at one of them due to alcohol consumption, that does not mean that we should immediately shut them all down.

This is not cause and effect, it is statistics running it's course and is completely normal as far as the math is concerned.

I agree this is getting ugly. Read
about the TB outbreak today and
now this.

Speaking as a parent I am asking
that the protestors go home. Go
to school, get a job, spend time with
your family and loved ones before
something happens to you. You
haven spoken your words to TPTB
and continuing to protest in an unsafe
environment is not necessary. Get
your act together and perhaps you
can come up with better ideas that
are not a danger to you or those
around you. Please!!! I wouldn't
want my son or daughter there -
you may be hurting your parents
and those that care for you more
than anyone else. At least give it
some good thought.

At this time it seems the man
committed suicide. May he rest
in peace.

Go home? And then what?

This is exactly what is expected. Those with the money and power have the luxury of waiting out those that don't.

Although I do agree that it is getting dangerous, nothing worth fighting for is ever a smooth ride and is always going to have a personal cost attached to it.

Many of these people are standing for your children so that they might have a voice in the future.

Sorry, but quitting now will allow even more freedoms and rights to be taken away from us...and our children.

Peace

OWS is turning into something very ugly.

It's turning into a microcosm of the larger society (in this case, the US), as you would expect when thousands of strangers camp together in a confined space for long periods of time.

Nope, it's just the tragic, pathetic end result of younger Americans being made to believe in a cause, an agenda and demands that were never theirs to begin with... Used and ultimately discarded in a wasted effort, that will not let them go until the bitter, and possibly violent end.

It is what it is.

I agree with you. Now that more people are getting involved with this movement...this was perfect timing.

Unfortunate that someone had to lose their life trying to prove justice and equality for us all whether we like what OWS stands for or not.

Statistically speaking, its a mathematical probability.
It was bound to happen eventually, when you have a crime rate like that of the united states, and the mount of drug and alcohol abuse. It woulda happened wether an #occupy was there or not, but in this guy's case, im not sure, i'de take a guess at PTSD.
Or some mental illness from being in battle, depression, perhaps he was making a statement like that of the man in tunasia that lit himself on fire..

Here's some local news for you... We have two high schools with a combined total of 140+ TB cases followed by a skate rink slaughter were five members of the same family were gunned down.

You're probably safer at an Occupy camp with the exception of police cracking ribs and/ or fracturing skulls.

A younger crowd that somehow figured out fractional reserve, fiat currency, and the individual heads of banking. That alone trumps any other generation you'd be aware of. Supply them Non-GM seeds and enough land, and I bet they'd be doing a respectable job of farming wholesome foods too.
