Egypt will close the Great Pyramid of Giza on Friday to avoid any rituals by a group rumoured to have plans to mark the date of 11/11/11 at the site, an official said. The decision came "after much pressure" from Egyptian Internet users that strange rituals were going to be held "within the walls of the pyramid on November 11, 2011," Atef Abu Zahab, head of the Department of Pharaonic Archaeology, told AFP.
I'm pretty sure that the 11/11/11 date would mean absolutely nothing to anyone following a traditional Egyptian religious calendar.

Why does there have to be one of these so called "conspiracies" every year? Last year it was 10/10/10, before that it was 9/9/9.
Can't you guys just admit that sometimes a date has no significance?

Of course not. I would venture further and claim that it means absolutely nothing in Gregorian calendar too. It is just a date. Humanity survived 11/11/1911. Not to mention 11/11/1811. And to speak about 11/11/1711... Wait,i think there was some ritual on 11/11/1611. Nah i probably mix it with 11/11/1511.

The ancient Egyptian calender was based on 12 months with 30 days each (so 360 days) with 5 days at the end of the year for religious festivals. The months were divided into three weeks of ten days each. I really don't think 11/11/11 has any significance relating to the pyramids. Unless the ancient Egyptians didn't build them, but that's a whole nother story.
